There is no need for students like that. Its one thing if thats what the Instructor had wanted him to do but during a demo where he is teaching and this guy does something like that, its just un called for.

I have never even heard of it. Is there a school nearby? If so go check it out and see if they offer a free class, if so take it and if you like it and feel your learning what you want to learn then take it. -

Its not about being a drone, its about ensuring that each soldier has the mental discipline to follow orders because when the you know what hits the fan your going to have to rely on each other and work as a team and you cant have someone off freaking out putting everyones life in danger. Also it takes a whole army to win battles but it starts with the individual caring out their orders, inorder to reach the primary objective of the battle. Either way its for some people and its not for others. The bad thing is that you really dont know if its really for you until your in and then your stuck either way. I was in luck and enjoyed it but I knew some who hated it.

I run my KB class with a laid back attitude as far as strictness goes. Now all the students know that I run in very intense when it comes to doing are mitt drills, thai pad drills and leg kick shield drills and they love it. I set up stations sometimes to make the class different and the stations consist of thai pad work, mitts, tire jumping, shadow boxing with weights, leg kick shield, tip tap sparring and I normally will play some up beat music while I run the students threw the stations. Here is one drill that I do that really kicks everyones butt and they love it. I put a kickboxer on the floor, and then I have 3 others one holding mitts, one with thai pads, and one with a kicking shield. I time this normally first round 1 minute and then on their second time I put them in for 2 min. The people holding the pads advance towards the kickboxer, the kickboxer can use punch combos on mitts, they can punch or kick the thai pads depending on how the holder comes at the kickboxer and they can punch kick or knee the kicking shield. Now here is the fun part, if they do not get a good hard strike in the holder keeps advancing on them and at the same time the other holders are crowding the kickboxing. Normally after a good hit a 3 second count is giving before the holder advances again. The drill gets crazy and the students love it. -
what would you do?
Shane replied to eggdropsoup's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
First of all its all going to depend on the situation of course. But if I'm thrown to the ground I want to either counter the throw which can be very hard if the one throwing you is very experienced and I want to keep ahold of my attacker because if I'm going to the ground so is he. On the ground you want to close that gap and not give them the room to strike at you. -
When I was a student the purple belts helped teach the whites, the blues helped teach the purple, the green helped teach the blue and the brown helped teach the green, this was part of your training to ensure that you had instructor skills at all levels of the art before recieving your black belt, now that didnt mean that you just ran the class on your own your under supervision of higher ranking belts.
-
Our colored belts have 3 stages to them, the belt itself and then 2 stripes within each color that come after the belt itself, with the Brown belt having 3 stripes. The white and orange do not get stripes.

so many good ones but like I said watch some of the first ones and some of the more recent ones just to see the difference.

Wing Tzun people?
Shane replied to Lenny's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
go check it out, see if they offer a free class and take it. I like all of my adults to sample my classes before they sign up and pay due to the fact that my training is not for everyone, and that is pretty much with all schools, what I might like you might dislike, so go check it out and if you have fun and feel your learning to defend yourself then stick with it and go from there. GOOD LUCK -
Wing Chun and Aikido Combo?
Shane replied to kittyhawk's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Mix it up, its good for you -
Never heard of it, but that means nothing. The best thing I can suggest is to go check it out and see if they offer a free training session. If so take it, if they do not then ask if you can stay and view a class. I found a their web address but you can judge a school or instructor from that. Check it out and if you enjoy it and believe your learning skills that will help you defend yourself then you'll know if its for you or not. http://www.sanjiehdao.com/ this is the web site I found on it. Good Luck

Cool Judo site, Filled with info -
Batman2 and Rich67 both had pretty much the same techniques that I was thinking. Rich67's relpy would probably be the easiest to pull of from situation you explained and is a fairly easy move to perform especially while in motion. Either way your going to want to pull your technique off quick before your attacker attempts to strike you so close that gap and take them to the ground.

Anyone who has ever trained in ground grappling knows that it is a very technical field. I have noticed that over the past 10 years it just keeps getting more technical. I remember 10 years ago my Instructor use to fight NHB and a lot of the matches were won by submission. Now when I go to the fights I rarley see a submission its about who can get in the most and hardest strikes to end the fight. Is this because grapplers are getting so good at the submissions and at defending against them? That is what I think. Any comments on this topic, does anyone notice this happening? Note: Remember the first UFC? Royce Gracie won that one and he did not even get hit. I dont even remember him hitting any of his Opp. Just getting in closing the gap and submitting them. Actually he did get some good kidney strikes in with his heel while he had his Opp. in his guard. BUT THIS GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW MUCH MORE TECHNICAL GRAPPLING HAS BECOME, AND WITH THAT FIGHTERS MUST GO RIGHT BACK TO BASIC STRIKING!!!!!

If you had to choose a target to strike your attacker at with your first strike, what target would you choose. I know there are many options and its going to depend ont he situation, but lets say you have to pic your preferred target for that first strike, Remember the first strike can help decide the outcome of your fight!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS FOR A REAL ATTACK WITH YOU BEING THE VICTIM If I really had to pic, Iam going with the Throat!

Primary reason for me is the self-defense aspect and then of course bonus features for me are that they are good exercise and fun.
