  1. As far as I know...BJJ trains only for ground fighting. My buddy spends maybe a total of about 30 secs on his feet, then its rolling on the mat for the duration of the match. Hasta!! Slider
  2. Hey guys, Just wanted to let all you peeps know that the International Karate Championships (Started by Ed Parker in 1964) has returned!! For all you guys that know this yearly tournament....It was discontinued by the Parker family, but thanx to one of Parkers veteran black belts, it has returned. My thanks to Frank Trejo...the tournament last weekend was amazing!! Hasta!! _________________ Check out "Koldsteel" Enterprises. 3. So lemmie get this straight....you value your "image" over your life? That makes no sense to me....explain? Hasta!! Slider
  4. Here's some sound advice...when he steps back into that cat...circle around and drill for blood. All of his weight is on his back leg, and by stepping into a cat to kick you, he has cut his mobility...circle around to his 9:00, and go to town on him. Hasta!! Slider
  5. the last post was totally pointless...but funny Hasta!! Slider
  6. No offense was intended, but thats just commen sense...no matter where you are from. Your life should be WAY more important then what some freaks think of you. Doesnt make any sense to me. Hasta!! Slider
  7. WHAT, NO KENPO? Look it up in your area...I reccomend it highly. It can suppliment your shotokan very well too. Hasta!! Slider
  8. I suggest learning grappling and stand fighting at the same time. That way you can beacome prfiecient at both at the same time Hasta!! Slider
  9. Well, if the option to walk away without having to fight was present..ALWAYS take it no matter what. You may feel like "Wussing out" sucks...but then again, being DEAD sux too. Just a thought. Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo Karate
  10. I know some friends whose style is ninjitsu....most of the weaponry training is done to keep the tradition of the art alive. They actually do very well in competitions. If you know how to kick properly, punch properly, spar on a regular basis..then thats all you need to compete. The weapons training can actually benefit you very well when u compete in the weapons, and showmanship divisions. Hasta!! Slider
  11. Kenpo karate has a saying..."Meet force with force". If you guys decide before hand that there will be no face contact...then there should be no face contact. I personally advise against sparring w/o face contact....its an unrealistic way to train cuz that will be a target that 90% of your potential attackers will attack first, and you need to know how to defend against it. I am against practicing full contact to the face, unless you are ready to take some injury..some peeps train this way, but make sure you are ready for it before training in that fashion. Hope that helps Hasta!! Slider
  12. Your a nutcase if u dont fear death..but thats my opinion Hasta!! Slider
  13. Kicking from a cat stance is only good if they got you on the run...but I advise trying it to surprise your opponant with a quick kick to the groin, or solar plexas...more effective that way. Hasta!! Slider
  14. The perpatrator got exactly what he deserved. Not only was he way, way out of hand, but no matter what the beef was...it should have NEVER ended with the death of another human being. I followed this case very closely, cuz he claimed it was "Self-Defense". Well...I fail to believe that in a room with about 50-100 people, that his life could have been in so much danger that he needed to kill him. Totally pointless...ROT IN PRISON BUDDY!! Hasta!! 15. As an instructor and school owner, that is something that I would worry about. I try to pay attention to what I am doing so that does not occur. It depends on the situation, but that can cause some legal trouble in the hands of the "sue-happy" individual. If that did happen for some reason, I would handle it much like the other guy did...which was apologize, and advise the student that it was an honest mistake. Having a reputation as a "harrasser" show up cuz u didnt can actually hurt your business substancially. Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo Karate
  16. I advise against that type of training so early in your training. If you are going to train with a more experianced fighter, than its on him to make sure to work with you and teach you the basics. I frown upon this guys way of handeling it. Its comparable to me as a black belt tearing into a white belt and saying "keep your guard up". Makes no sense cuz the white belt is not experianced enough to be able to know how to properly relact. I would tell this guy to go jump in a lake...cuz he's a moron for doing that. Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo Karate _________________ Check out "Koldsteel" Enterprises. 17. Ground fighting techniques are a MUST if you train in martial arts. If you get into a street confrontation, chances are that you will end up on the ground. If that happens, and the guy happens to be stronger than you are..you will be in serious trouble. The benefit of learning lock, and grapple techniques is that you can have the benefit of "leverage" in a confrontation with a stronger opponant. Look into it as soon as you can....its a benefit no matter what stage in your training. Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo Karate
  18. I guess parker chose not to take that part I guess. Funny that the location of the school was actually one of parkers pasadena schools, but they chose the asian guy to play the part. He played the part very well, but Parker would have played better..ALOT better. It would have been truely awsome to see parker in that movie, but he chose to be just an advisor for the movie. Hasta!! 19. Thanx for the welcome all Hasta!! Slider
  20. Hey man welcome, I would love to discuss Jeet Kune Do/Kenpo concepts with ya anytime. Ed Parker and Bruce Lee were best of friends, and I frequently train with Dan Inasanto...Jeet Kune Do is the bomb. Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo Karate
  21. I'm kinda wondering where peeps are from here? I currently live in Southern California...how bout you? Hasta!! Slider
  22. Thats pretty unfortunate. I sincerly hope that they prosecute all that are responsible. What a truley wasteful loss of life. I to this day fail to understand how people could be so cruel and evil knowing that this man had a wife, and most likely a family that Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo karate
  23. Kenpo karate places alot of emphises on the use of hands and low kicks. A good example of our system would be if u ever saw the movie "perfect weapon" or any movie by Jeff Speakman. Speakman was a student of Ed Parker, and one of his Black Belts. Kenpo teaches to end a fight quickly by kicking the groin, knees, or attacking vital areas of the body. Very fast hands, and low kicks basically. We also have some pretty nifty joint locks as well. What is the general style that people study here? Hasta!! Slider 2nd degree black belt Kenpo Karate
