  1. Good points from Luckykboxer, Kaos666, and Rich_2k3 Ditto in many ways.
  2. I have to agree with some of the other points... I can't stand to see people walking around in their uniforms after class especially in stores/public and they not expecting to not be ridiculed. Meaning no offense to these people personally, it is to point out that you might as well put a sign on your back and say, "Laugh at Me". Or you might as well walk around with a big red top hat. It is all advertising and "asking" for despair. Also, you were lucky to get TP and eggs, and it may not end there. They have the advantage in knowing where you are and what you do. It should not be this way.
  3. To add and clarify..... Shaolin does not exist on the level of authenticity and no one should hold claim to teach it.
  4. 1.) Not be There in the First Place. 2.) Run faster than the other guy
  5. The Article is nicely done. This Website is impressive. I have been in the martial arts for about 37 years. Within those, I had studied some systems. As teach, I continue to learn. My infinite learning stems from subjects that surface over decades. Thus, it has me to address all aspects of martial arts. Basically, your article is much as I had been saying to my Christian practitioners for decades. The biggest problem I have are Christian "Extremists" that come to my class to disrupt and attempt to coerce other Christian practitioners to quit. I state "Extremists", because in every subject there exist such, martial arts (and artists) included. A "Extremist", goes beyond logical reasoning to prove a theory or idea. The Bible and Martial Arts (including practitioners), have much issues of controversy. People of those subjects have a tendency to demonstrate and mis-interpret information that was presented to them. However, in understanding past history, others quoted from the Bible had "Blind-Extremists" follow them to self-destruction. Other Christians tell me to read and use scriptures against those that do that upon martial arts, my class, and myself. In essence, using "fire against fire". If one was to examine this, this would be against true Christian beliefs. Don't you think? Great thread, though it will seem there are no Christians here that are non-martial artists to post their view which will be refreshing. DM, I'm can't help in checking out your posts...very interesting.
  6. I agree with DM on this one. Also, I think Spaceman is trying to set a standard or criteria on something by a observation from a mere ad. I do not completely understand his attempt, so I am not trying to bash him either. The best thing to do is go visit, check the instructor's qualifications, and perhaps partcipate.

    McDojos.

I want Mc Fries in the McDojo
  8. And... I have seen many/most street and bar room fights that DID NOT end up on the ground.
  9. not really some of the best came from Germany and a few cam from Russia
  10. DM, I stated a particular martial art not "all or one". I used "particular" as meaning a general/open reference point, i.e. Chinese. Please explain: white crane kung fu is correct white crane kuen isn't.....
  11. DM Allow me to clarify: I am speaking in terms of existence from authenticity. Methods Documented? Where? How old are the documents? In other words, anyone can study a old document/text and repeat the method. But that brings us to the modern-day practitoner that study from books and videos vs a live instructor.
  12. Thats brings up a funny but true tactic that we teach in our female self defense course. We tell them in one particluar pontential rape tactic to either urinate on themselves or act crazy.
  13. I believe it depends on the position of the oponent and the surrounding area. The opponent coming in close and fast, or is already in close position. Also, like if you are out in the open or in a place where there are obsticles like tables and chairs, etc.
  14. Yeah, any martial artist that learns or study more than one can become more verstile.
  15. Cool reply. Jules- What is CQB tactics?
  16. Interesting......please explain..... I am a History/Research buff. Please, with much curiousty, give info Thanks
  17. i was just relating to the Kung Fu translation thing earlier. a rose by any other name is still a rose
  18. "Fad" I use that term as a resurgence of it. It was popular in the 30's-40's. Then Judo. Then Karate. Then Kung Fu, Then JKD, Then TKD, Then Ninjutsu, etc. Being in the martial arts for 37 years I have seen schools come and go because of a "fad". The resurgence of it largely to UFC, etc. Do not misconstrue this, as I am not stating that it has no value. It has. However, it HAS it limitations. I have many tales to tell of this art and others that I have personally been in, experienced, and have seen.
  19. You say "George Dillman did knock me out though, with a strike to my triple warmer 17 point.....and yes, most definetely, his method of RyuKyu Kempo works..... " But not always... There were several people over the years that he could NOT knock out. My student could not be. Grant it, people can get knocked out, but in a fight, a very fast confrontation, whom has the time, or speed to apply such tactics? Do you see such tactics effective in Extreme or underground Shoot fighting? How about in Bar rooom or street fights? Lastly, some people have a different threshold of pain and pressure in certain areas than other people.
  20. I am happy to see that some people relisze that LKD is not a particular style, but a path. One can say that as Martial Artists, we are ALL JKD Practitioners. I grow weary of the "JKD Bandwagon"
  21. I did not know Ving Tsun had colored levels of achievement? The one instructor I've met, stated this isn't so.
  22. It is NOT the style, but the apllication and skill of the practitioner. Did anyone know there is a Ving Tsun Museum in Ohio? I know where it is and will make my way up there via visting a freind in Dayton.
  23. Sorry to hear about your uncle...my condolences.... However, I have never heard about Ving Tsun students receiving Black Belts or Dans...used in a Karate terminology..... Further, you are right about the Black Belt misconception and the training wasted by the discharge on a bullet. And, I am sure your uncle was appreciative of what he had learned.
  24. I very much Agree.......Great response. But I am troubled by this other: I believe he got black belts in a style of Karate, Tae Kwon Do (maybe, I don't know it that's true).
  25. Wow, you trained with Wally Jay and Remy Presas? Very impressive. Although I am not quite impressed with George Dillman. I had a student attend many of his seminars and that student had learned nothing. Worse, he could not even perform a lot of methods on a student of mine. All in all, my student did say that George Dillman was very polite. Not to sound biased, but given a choice, I rather train in Goju instead of "Western TKD".
