my life question: what is your philosophy on life?

Be honest in all things. -
I find it easy to get girls. Just sneak up behind them, throw a blanket over their head, and grap 'em.

Based on the way you phrased your question I'd say don't bother. -
Ninjutsu vs. Jujutsu
gcav replied to BlackRose's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
With all due respect to everyone that has posted in this thread, you guys make me laugh at the thought that ninjutsu and jujutsu are the same thing. Ninjutsu is like no other MA, barr none. You have to look at the art in its entirety, not just the physical aspects of it. You can not compare the art of ninjutsu to any other MA, because there is nothing that even comes close to it. The lower (physical) levels of training might seem similar to other MAs, but the higher (spiritial and philosophical) levels of the art are like no other. The Godan test by itself will atest to that fact. All MAs have similar physical techniques such as throws, kicks and punches, but ninjutsu is so much more than just physical movements. It is something that has to be experienced to be understood. And that "understanding" takes a life time of dedicaded training. I know some 12th Dans (yes we have 12th Dans) that learn new things about the art everyday. I am not saying that ninjutsu is better than all of the other MAs, it is just different than all of them. A true comparison can not be made because there is nothing to compare it to. -

Talkative karate friends vs learning karate!
gcav replied to angelica d's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Your best bet is to just talk to your friend outside the dojo. Just sit 'em down and explain what the problem is. Do not get emotional (mad) and really "talk" with each other. Tell them that you two can talk all day long outside the dojo, but when you are there, you are there to train, not talk. If you "suffer in silence" the problem will only get worst as your frustration builds up over time. And then, one day it will just boil over and you will have a bigger mess than if you handle it now. If you are close friends they should understand. -

What is the difference?
gcav replied to 47MartialMan's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Aikido per Aikijutsu Eventhough Aikido was born out of Aikijutsu, these two systems are different in philosophy and physical technique. Aikido and Aikijutsu have the same wrist locks, traps, throws, redirection of force techniques, etc, etc., Aikijutsu has hand strikes and kicks. These techniques were removed by the founder of Aikido during its creation. Aikijutsu is more combative in nature. -
Everyone has a slightly different idea of what enlightenment is, but basically its "knowledge", "insight" and "true understanding" on a philosophical and spiritial level. Being able to see all things clearly within the scheme of totality. Being one with the universe kinda of stuff.

Master Jules - Along with my other duties I was the hand to hand instructor for the department I worked for in California. 47MM - You are correct. I'm glad it was just a plastic toy rather than a butcher knife. But it just goes to prove that anything can be used as a weapon.

CrouchingTiger - The very short answer to your question is Zen, or Zen Buddhism, is a philosophy (or religion) based on trying to attain enlightenment through meditation. It started in India and was taken to China and Japan a long time ago. JKD is Jeet Kune Do. It is the fighting system that Bruce Lee developed from his training in Kung Fu.
