No Shhhhh, Shhhhh.. i friend of mine lose a competition by doing those sounds... Keep your breating normal and a Good Kiai when the Kata demands i more than enough. Focus, Focus... do your Kata really concentrated... Use your head.. if you are going to move to the right.. move your head first and then do the technique. Do every kata many times, practices make perfect.

Knees from the clinch
Karateka_latino replied to Severe Matburn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Oh the Clinch... Very important to learn how to fight in the clinch.. a person how knows how to elbow and knee on the clinch is very dangerous.. not to mention the set up for Takedown and throws. -

Take your time to find a new place to train.. Don't leave Martial arts for good because of this experience.. shop around and watch a couple of classes first, There's no rush. I hope next time you'll train in a place you feel confortable with. Just don't give up on Martial arts. Luck!

When I was in Shotokan Karate i was told that Low stances were for training kihon and kata, to make leg stronger.. but for Kumite i needed to use a higher stance so i could move better. That make sense to me..

Hello, That's old School thing... Hitting people with sticks, tourture them, etc...In order to make you "tough".. military training kind. My opinion..if you don't like it.. well, Go. Nowbody have to stay in place isn't confortable with. I don't think that kind of thing will make you better, Personally i'd leave that place..

Haven't trained that Style, but i looked a TV special about self defense and they had clips of one class.. It looked nice for that..self defense..

Oh geezz, don't ever get a girl in-love upset!!! Specially if she knows martial arts Good you talked with your instructor.... not to be a jerk.. but what did you expect?? Duh, obviously he's going to say anything to keep his students, I don't think he'll like to lose two more students, you say already he have lost some students. Since you decided to stay, i advice you to give a couple of months, not more than 3 to start to see the changes..if its all the same, then get the heck out of there. Honestly. You seem to be really happy with the other Dojang, its a shame you don't go there to train. Well, you are doing it for your boyfriend, but lets be realistic.. what happends if he gets tired of martial arts??.. then you will end wasting valuable time in a dojang you didnt like it. Love is beautifull, yes. But Don't make important decisions in life just out of love... I just hope you are happy with whatever decision you take, but be carefull on not making a decision you may regret later. I wish you the best

Karate on ESPN2, Sunday (26th)
Karateka_latino replied to karatekid1975's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
Thanks I'll try to catch it.. Even if you like Football but still want to see Karate, you can tape it.. lol If you don't have VCR, well, too bad. lol -
OH here it is.. another classic girl situation "OH i'll sacrifice everything for my boyfriend.. I'll follow him to the hell if its necesary... I'll do anything for him even if it's wrong.. I just need to be with him " Don't worry, we are All suckers when we are in Love. Well I know you are a smart girl and you are doing it just to peace the things for a little while, But Keep trying to get him out of it.. he's spending good money on a phoney Dojang and its not fair. Even if you aren't paying you are Still losing something even more valuable than money.. Your TIME. You could spend your time and energy in a better Place training the things you like and not Fake stuff. I think any martial artist with some self-respect should avoid training in Mcdojos. Training in Judo is great, that will give you many good techniques and you'll learn how to perform those techniques against resisting oponents which is what you are going to need in a real self defense situation. See you

All good advices here, I'm agree with the NO weight lifting yet... you'll GAIN weight with that kind of training. Lose weight, and when you have lost some pounds Then you can start to pack some solid muscle. The Martial Arts training will work all your muscles of your body so I wouldn't mind holding the weight training for a while. Since when 32 is Old??? you are YOUNG. Now Cardio is vital so is Flexibility but Martial arts will work on those too. but if you'll work on a program for that, good, just don't over do. The thing is don't do TOO much specially if you are comming back from a lay off. Take it step by step and while you progress you add more. As far as Martial Arts goes.. Judo/Jiu Jitsu is good, Karate? well, id say look for the Okinawan styles of Karate (Goju, Shorin, Isshin, etc..) they are better for your knees.

What are Your Favorite Combo's..........
Karateka_latino replied to coltmakai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I like the McChicken Combo ( Chicken sandwich, french fries and large Coke) -
No problem ghe.. well, i think every karateka should know about the origins of karate in general... I feel Karatekas should do some reserch, Specially if they are Teachers, Instructors, Masters, etc... Even if you do American Karate, doesn't hurt to learn more about Shotokan, Goju, Chitoryu, and you can even go back to Shorin Ryu, Isshinryu, and even go more back to , Shurin Te, Naha Te, Tomari Te and to the beggining , Okinawa Te (To-Te), etc.... You will find many interesting things about Karate that your intructor may left out. Like understanding the techniques, Original Kata Bunkai, etc....
