Karateka_latino replied to kle1n's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hmmm, Yes, i confess i did it. lol There was a time when my School had a Kickboxing program, i went there and since i had experience the instructor told me to help him because the class was too crowded, He had the older student, most of them females and like 30 +new girls lol So i used to practice all my kicks, show off my flexibility, Take off my shirt, And All that stuff. I still wonder why i didn't hooked any girl?? -
I'd say Stay the two remaining months you have on your contract and then move on to a new School, you say you had 2 hours a week, thats like 8 a month and 16 hours for two, Its not All that much, there are school in which you train like 10 hours a WEEK. Be patient, stay a little longer, Keep sufering for your mistake so you can learn the lesson right and then, Never make the same mistake of joining to a McDojo, you have no excuse now. lol Good Luck.

Newbie to Judo
Karateka_latino replied to karatekid1975's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Congratulations Good you finally started on Judo, you'll have fun. Get ready for new bruises and soreness, in Judo and Grappling arts you'll train your muscles in a totally diferent way, so don't be scared if you feel strange things on your body the first couple of clases. Kicking and punching someone isn't the same as grabbing and throw it.. Anyway, Just Have fun on it. -

luta livre?
Karateka_latino replied to jiu-jitsu fighter's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
i read an interview with Hugo Duarte who's the cheif instructor of the Luta Livre School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He says Luta Livre means something like Free Wrestling.. its the combination of Judo and Wrestling with NO GI. They were the first M.A. to compete toe-toe with BJJ when the challenges of the Brazilian Streets were at there peak. Many of those challenges ended on Hospital beds or in the Jail. With time, both styles learned to get along and leave there fued in peace. -
Elements of Proper Self-defense Training
Karateka_latino replied to Joe Hardwick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Also, don't forget Avoid the risky situation in the first place.. Avoid is the key of self defense. Most of the problems we have can be avoided. -
Hello, wellcome to the forums.. Take Wing chun if you like. but for striking I always advice people to look into the good ol Western Boxing, the art of hit without getting hit, what else do you need? lol that or Thai Boxing, the art of 8 limbs. Now for groung fighting, Look for BJJ mainly, or Submission Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, etc...Those arts have devasting submission holds and ground techniques.

Who Knows, maybe if he keeps practicing those Fancy kicks in contact sparring, someday he'll be able to actually use them on a real fight. lol

No very good actually, as my instructor isn't teaching anymore... well, not to a group, just privates.. I'm almost about to make him change his mind and open a class again, but he's healing from an injury and going through personal problems, it will take sometime to make him comeback. right now, im just trying to keep conditioning, cardio and weights.

Karateka_latino replied to Ashura's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Very interesting Story indeed... i remember read it somewhere else, but it was nice reading again. -
Hi, I was reading a Taekwondo Times magazine.. an interview with Hapkido Grandmaster Ji Han Jae. Anyway, what called my attention was that he started Martial Arts At 15 years old in Yawara with Master Choi Yung Sol learn from him for 7 years, then went to train Meditation, Weapons and Taekyon for about a Year or something.. then at 23 He blend all he learned and started to officially use the name Hapkido. So At 23 and he was already a grandmaster of his own system of M.A. Open a School in Seoul, Korea and start teaching. Today if you are 23 and you say you are a Master of your own style, open a school and start teaching, everybody will laugh in your face Just wanted to share this...

what doesn't kill you, make you stronger.. Im glad to see you're taking Judo.. Not only will make you understand Aikido better but will give you other skills that aren't developed in Aikido. Another style you should look is Kendo/iaido, but i guess you are going it already. Also, you may consider Taking Karate again (since it seems you like Japanese styles better) For striking. Be well rounded..
