also you will find that pivoting your foot can be sometimes difficult. as for drills , do the same just wear shoes. one will quickly find out what works best. i personally wear low cut shoes, unless at work. i work construction therefor hig top steeltoe boots for protection. also a roundhouse kick can bedone with a high top shoe, just not with instep of foot.

TKD kicks for kicking people off horses
manuelito replied to dear john's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
taek kyon is the korean ancient ma of kicking. gen choi took this style and karate and blended the two together. regarding history...i belive that the hwa rangdo group from the silla dynasty used these techniques in battle. -
i understand your point angelag. sometimes ma practioners may come to a point where they want to know if what they are doing would work. and i stress the word "may". i have only been in ma for about 15 years and i am glad that i have never actually have used in a physical sense what i have learned. i have managed to talk my way out of a few situations and that to me is what ma is all about.

quote from shane:I had to also go with other on this poll, we train different variations for different situations and placement you may find yourself in. the same here

Kicking: How high will you go?
manuelito replied to Mu Ryuk's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
well considering that i am 198 cm tall (6,6) i have no problem kick at head level. however in a self defense situation i thin i would only kick at knee to groin level. ofcourse this is just speculation i have never had to really kick someone other than in class or tournaments. -
sweeps are very important imo. however since i find it difficult to implement safely i execute and only allow check and ankle sweeps.

What Percentage Make it to Black Belt?
manuelito replied to TMAA's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
well considering it is hard to find stats on bb in the country i was able to find that according to the WTF 2002 stats show that there were 44,022 registered bb with the WTF. so if this is correct i would belive that less than 1% make it to bb 1st dan. moo considering how many students there are in the WTF in the USA. personally when i tought i promoted 2 bb in a 4 yr span. i took over the school so i had all ranks when i begun. -

should learn karate or a other martial art?
manuelito replied to pentaxphoto's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
best martial art to learn.... i do not think there is one. pentaxphoto just go to a local school and take a look. if you like it then do it. it really doesn't matter imo what style you train as long as you are training and bettering yourself and the people around you. good luck and let us know what you do. -
i have never heard of a double test. but i say go for it. good luck projectjanus and let us know who you faired. also on a sidenote always take the advice of instructor first unless all the people on this forum say otherwise...lol

zap!, welcome to the wonderful world of politcs in martial arts. this is not the case with every school just a lot of them unfortunatly. the longer you stay in the martial arts the more you will see things that dissapoint you. so have faith and train hard.
