So far the snow has been a lot of fun, but I wouldn't want to have to live with it for long periods of time. Maybe I'll take you up on the offer to visit next time we get the urge to see snow again. Meanwhile, I'll be heading back to the sunny (to cloudy) South!

DLopez said: Even though I'm visiting up here in Indiana, we're having Cajun injected fried turkey! Afterall, my brother in law is a transplanted Cajun. We're in a German community here and and we're going to be treating a bunch of them to one tasty Thanksgiving dinner. Gotta go, there a boogie board and a snow covered hill with my name on it (no, I didn't pee in the snow!).

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" As you may know, I live in the deep south. I've only seen snow twice in my life, and it was a lite snow. But now I'm visiting relatives in Fort Wayne, Indiana and I'm in a winter wonderland. We arrived last night during a snow fall. His grounds, out in the country were covered with an accumulation of about and ince of snow. My kids were totally amazed!!! I took millions of photos. This morning I went out and the snow is about 4 inches thick. I took a few million more photos (thank God for digital cameras!!). I'll also do some filming when the kids get out to play. What a Thanksgiving to remember! Greg

My son is trying to set a new 20GB hard drive as the master drive (C drive) but the PC continues to read the orginal 2GB as the master even though he set it as the slave. If he removes the 2GB it won't even detect the 20GB drive. He has set the jumpers for the 20GB to be the master, and he says they are set correctly. Any PC gurus out there?

My daughter is also very active and I've been spending even more time with her lately. You can't beat the expierence. -

At times she likes to peer over my shoulder as I'm going through the threads. Sometimes I'll call the kids over and read to them something that someone wrote that is intelligent, so that doesn't happen too often....JUST JOKING!!! She'll always come running over when she hears me laughing as I go through some of this pages. So to answer your question, she does have exposure to this forum.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!!!! My daughter, Shannon, turned 12 on Saturday. And how did she spend her day? Competing in a TKD tournament. She competed in forms and Olympic style sparring and won a gold medal in both events. What a good day! I have several photos of her posted in the Photo Album section of this forum. I can't believe I didn't bring a camera on Saturday! I was busy helping running the tournament.

I'm a 4th dan, my son's a 4th, and my daughter is a 2nd. Added together and we're a 10th. -
BritNoob: My son has a pair just like those in 17", chrome, round. We are pleased with them (except the tape at the top of the handle came off and we had to use electric tape in its place). They handle well dispite not being perfectly balanced. I also have a pair of 18", chrome, octagon Shurido sai. The tsuka (handle) is shorter and is harded to keep hold of when doing multiple quick flips. I guess this might just be a matter of getting use to it after training so much with my son's sai.

You take MA to learn how to defend yourself at the right times. You did just that. If you start questioning yourself too much you just might hesitate next time when it really matters and you'll end up being the one with the busted buns. You done good. Don't doubt yourself!

Think of Hapkido as a cross between Aikido (Steve Seagal's style) and Tae Kwon Do. I train in both TKD and Hapkido and see Hapkido as a more practical self defense system. As TangSooGuy mentioned, it is a defensive method. There are no attacks that I know of in Hapkido. I also do not know of any forms (katas, poomse, etc) in Hapkido. We learn blocks, joint locks, pressure points, punches, jabs, stabs, kicks and sweeps, throws, and take downs. Our grand master has put together combinations that we are required to demostraite at each belt test. We have 7 different combinations for each belt rank. They incorporate defenses against an unarmed attack as well as attacks with knives, guns, short or long sticks, and nunchuku. We defend either unarmed or with short or long stick, nunchuku, walking cane, fan, sai, and even our belt. Hope this helps. Ask if more info needed.

Rich67 wrote: It seems I'm always the designated driver when we go out with friends. It seems unfair I never get to 'party'. Well, I wouldn't have it any other way. For years I have chosen not to drink in public for just the very reason in my 'sad but true' story and as mentioned by Rich67. When I do have that occasional drink, it's usually a glass of wine with cheese and crackers, sitting at home with my wife and watching a movie. I heard today that the 11 year old child has grandparents that may be possible guardians.

I just read through the thread "Confronting females" on the "Strategies and Tactics" forum. This is very disturbing in light of what I'm about to report. Please be careful about how you try to defend someone that you think is in danger. This past Halloween weekend the father of an 11 year old child at my daughter's school was killed when someone thought he was abusing his new wife of 1 month. The wife had been drinking and the husband was taking her to their car as the party was winding down. They had argued some that night, which I am told they did frequently. I'm also told she has a rep for being troublesome and b-itchy. As they walked to their car a man stabbed the husband in the heart twice with a knife. The stabber, who had been drinking, claims the husband was beating the wife and when he stepped in to stop him, the husband pushed him to the ground. That's when he attacked with the knife. The wife says no such thing happened. The husband has never hit her and did nothing that night. As of today she still has no bruises or scars to show abuse. But the knife wielding man stands by what he thought he saw. Meanwhile, the 11 year old child was at another party. He mentioned to someone at that party that he really didn't like his new mom, that she was an evil step mother. Now that's all he has.

Like aefibird, I did the vampire thing. So did my wife. It was risky 'necking' that night.

Would TKD or Hapkido be a good add on??
Kicks replied to dingyuan's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I study both TKD and Hapkido in the dojang I attend. I am not fimiliar with Baji Quan, so I can't recommend an "add on", but I can give you some insight. TKD will help you develope quick and powerful kicks and stright line punches. You'' learn how to use speed and torque to develope power, as opposed to sheer muscle power. You can develope and improve your attacking and counter attacking skills. Hapkido uses joint locks, pressure points, and some of the kicks learned in TKD to DEFEND yourself. There are no attacks, at least we don't teach any in our dojang. I feel this system is fairly well rounded and is more of what I would use in actual self defense situation. There is defense against both armed (weapons) and unarmed attacks. If you need more details, just ask. -
blocks and counters for backkick in sparring
Kicks replied to dear john's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I always show my students how to read my movements and counter my attacks. Then I let them do it a few times before I change everything and they are back to trying to figure me out again. Be careful 'dear john', and be ready to go to the next level. -
True story: Recently I was speaking to someone who owns and operates a Karate school (I can't remember which style, too many to keep up with) and the subject came up of transfering from one style to another. He said he would honor my rank of 4th degree if I transfered over to his school. Theory: OK, so I can go over to his school and be a 4th degree in Karate without knowing any of the katas or differences in execution of techniques. I can spend a little time there, just enough to get a warm and fuzzy feeling of his style of Karate, and then find another school that would honor my rank and do the same. Before long I'll have a long list of styles I'm a 4th degree in. This scenario may be a clue to how some people obtain so many high rankings in many different styles. Just a theory.

Glad I could be a part of that number!
