  1. I dont doubt the occurance of Ki, Qi, Prana, Whatever you please to call it. To me this is the energy that holds the universe in place. I think its a bit silly to imagine-up sci-fi possible uses for ones ki. Kamehameha! Ha, I recon 1 in every 10 people who start MA do it to gain some sort of 'higher' power.
  2. heat is generated in the human body due to entropy. (2nd law-thermodynamics.) The more we manipulate energy, the faster it reverts to its crudest form = HEAT. Hence, you work harder, your body consumes more chemical/kinetic energy than usual, and you emit more heat into the surroundings. As for being sent flying and put unconcious form a single punch. I dont have any explanation for that. Maybe the guy was real strong.
  3. hahaha, only after reading some of the posts in this thread, but, me too.
  4. I think its down to the level of intensity and reality of training. Not a particular style, as such.
  5. Yep, Not his finest moment. Was banned from training in his club when Instructors and management were informrd.
  6. I had the same problem, well, in truth Ive been fighting this exact problem the last few months, after about one month of training my abs, and seeing NO improvement, I was getting a bit discouraged, but I can assure you, if you hang in there, and keep training, and eating proper, the small amounts of lower-ab fat WILL go. It just takes AGES longer to lose this fat, (well, it did for me,) than most other body fat. Good luck.
  7. Yep, and even worse, theres the odd 'tough-guy' who wants to prove he can better an accomplished martial artist. Reminds me of a situation i saw on a friday night, (well.....saturday morning,) at a local club. Long story short, this MAist ended up side kicking this drunkard in the face, and sending him through a glass window. Ouch, and Legalities. Id much prefer people just think im harmless in the first place.
  8. An incorrect punch shouldnt hut a muscle....... Unless your jolting your arm into a full-extension. This can create IMMENSE stress at the shoulder and elbow joints, and even lead to muscle/tendon/ligament damage. You need a Sensei to review your form.
  9. I agree that it is more important to instill the morals to walk away, than to teach to be prepared to really do something dangerous in a situation. As to why; violence is dangerous, and should not be taken lightly. If a child grows up thinking its the 'norm' to fist fight, and walks into a club in the red-light part of town someday with an aggressive attitude......... well, I dont want to paint the rest of that picture.
  10. Haha, Bogans(auzzie for trailer trash) and other ignorant fools (footballers mainly,) call me things like NINJA, or say things like, "Could you kick ME through a wall Bruce?" Enticing me to start a situation with them. It peeved me off at first, but Im not the one with a chip on my shoulder. I eventually stopped telling people i newly met that I know MA. Less problems that way. As for modern ninja. Being hired by government agencies, and other private companies for things like espionage sounds like the most probable option to me.
  11. Haha, Im with you there buddy. I raked out over AU$800 for my uni books in the last year and a half only!
  12. "The Legend 2" is also out on DVD now, but is no where near as good as the first one IMO. The first one is definantly a movie to try to get a hold of. I mean, In what other movie do two combatants fight while standing/moving/fighting upon the heads of a large crowd. Superb.
  13. Thats a shame. But I dont think Masters teach regularly in any given style??? Just seminars, and the odd lessons for advanced students. If instructors are confused at 2nd dan, and then still confused when they're 5th dan, and also teaching others and passing on their confusion, it creates a bad cycle I think. IMO, The only real way to rectify this is to get proper tuition from a 7th-8th dan master.
  14. Seriously though, IMHO, the condition of ones obi, is a symbol of the levels of dedication the particular karateka has. If one wants to wear a crisp, clean, bright belt, Kudos. Thats fine with me. I just wanted to note that some styles use the obi as more than just a symbol of rank. (or to hold gi's closed!) Osu.
  15. 1000 days is the start of MA training.
  16. That is what I have been lead to believe. As for the question, I cant answer that, (I dont think anyone can really,) perhaps Sosai knew that appointing a head would cause more problems than it would solve. IMHO, Sosai didnt name a successor, as he knew that the Kyokushin style was capable of carring itself through the ages, with those whom train it and make Kyokushin-Karate a part of their lives. Osu.
  17. Yep, Good advice from the above two posters, IMO.
  18. Thats what I figured. Ive always thought it took an immense time to get a BJJ black belt, Even then, their not just given away.
  19. Id go for it, but try not to do what you did the other day, just tone it down a bit until your body is conditioned enough to take the pain regularly. Like I said, You dont want to end up with a Hernia. Good Luck.
  20. I agree, theres some really good morals tucked away in those episodes. Kinda reminds me of Kung-Fu with Dave Carradine.
  21. Most Powerful = spinning back kick. Most painfull to opponent = Full force groin kick with hip extension.
  22. I agree with above posters. Its down to schools, instructors, and even students. The only drawback in TKD that I can think of is mandatory high kicks for gradings. Some peoples may not be able to do some of the kicks in the syllabus. But hey, my knowledge on the subject is very limited. Some TKD schools may not focus on, or have mandatory high kicks.
  23. Interesting drills. Ill prob' try some variations of the above mentioned tomorrow. Cheers.
