  1. Hi agian I was watching a video of both Kasku Dai and Kanku Sho then i watched Heian Nidan and Sandan and they have alot of movements that are pretty much the same so who was saying the heians came from the kanku kata? But im not saying the Heians are useless i think the benifit everyone
  2. Well i have a problem with balance sometimes when i do a few kicks and rechamber i push myself off balance why??
  3. What i mean is rapid kicking like doing a roundhouse then doing a side kick then another roundhouse followed by a cresent kick with the same leg without putting it down
  4. Hey all do any of you have tips for machine gun kicking? Im not bad ar kicking but my knees slow me down so is there any training drills i can do to help? Note: My heavy bag is down temporary so i cant use drills with that just yet
  5. Maybe I shouldn't of made this topic because it can be subject because the fact that some katas suit people better than others. For example Enpi may not suit a heavy set guy but it maybe be better for a smaller guy. I'm not saying the heavy set couldn't do it well but it may not suit him.
  6. I think Heian Shodan is the most important to learn because it has all the basics in it but i will get people who disagree with me on this. I know all kata's have different fundementals in them but which one do you think helps you in everything ??
  7. umm i have something to add.A remember seeing Funakoshi do a kata and his stance is fairly high by todays standard(for Shotokan anyway) but why are the stances lower today than the orginal?I dont have anything agianst high stances.I really dont enjoy holding a low kiba dachi(i havent really got the knees for it)So why are katas lower today then they were when the style was created?
  8. Mu Ryuk thanks for that link to the article I cant believe that some people when they get there black belt think there the ultimate fighting machine but McDojos make it worse by giving these people false cofidence. The idea that they think there Uber because they got a black belt in what ever art. Umm confused about that korens having the red belt thing it sounds weird to me
  9. im sorry i though Judo had some strikes in there system. Umm what kata are you talking about?
  10. Another reason why the Black Belt is mysterous is for the non-MAs and most of the Kyu ranks never see what the Black belt class is like.So non-MA's create a myth about there deadly techniques ect.
  11. thanks for the link.Yeah the definition is alittle vague but it probably makes more sense if an instuctor shows it to me or demostrats it
  12. Bloodsport is pretty bad.Its even worse than the 2 in 1 claiming bruce lees in its called Fist of Fear and Touch of Death. This is the movie all one of my friends thinks is the Holyy Grail of MA even though he NOTHING about Martial Arts except oo cus of Bloodsport he can say Kumite WOW! . I think this movie is Over rated and people think its classic yeah right Enter the Dragon=Classic, Bloodsport= something a dog left on the lawn
  13. Skeptic 2004 I wasnt refering to XMA style katas just the traditional katas like Heians and Bassai-Dai ect. Sorry to sound stupid but whats osae ? I dont reconize that word sorry can you clarify it for me?
  14. Actually I have the exact same problem. I have weak left roundhouses...i cant seem to hit with any power as much as my right. Yes i am left handed for some reason i prefer my right foot forward. I dont really know if i can offer any advice since im in the same boat as you
  15. Thanks agian for the replies. I think one thing kata also teaches you by trying to perfect the movement and stances is I dont remember the exact term but it translates into "the mind and fist are one" like if your mind doesnt work neither will your body and thats where kata comes in
  16. Thanks for the answers guys i was always confused why you need to be as perfect as you can in kata.Sauzin but what about varaiants between karate styles does that change the applications?
  17. I have a question about kata Why do the movements have to be perfect?even though in the application your not going into a perfect kiba datchi stace for whatever self defense reason. So why is doing a perfect kata important?
  18. So any real black belts get flak from people? Like after thier grading. No wonder why McDojos Florish because people want to training for very little time and say im a black belt making me a fighting machine otherwise McDojos wouldnt exist today or ever but people want the end and not the means. Yeah people can be really misinformed. like my friend asks if they taught the five point palm heart explode technique so i tell yeah its the first thing we learn so he will shut up.Or how the watch UFC and read a few articles on Martial Arts and think they know everything but it really means nothing. All they know is what Ian Malcom said in Jurassic Park where he sees the dinosaurs "droppings"
  19. I think Bleeding Lion and Straight Blast have the answer. So Sam did some of the Black belts you see at that national training session did you see some real bad techniques thrown or they were lacking power or what? what did you mean exactly when someone from TKD demonstrats a techinque did it go from bad to worse or what?
  20. I mean why do people continue to think that the Black belts are perfect in fighting and they are masters regardless of what Dan rank they are.So where did this myth start coming from? Was it those 60s Kung Fu vs Karate movies(since when did you see a red or brown belt star in a movie). I mean why cus blacks the last color belt you get it makes you an unstoppable force i know theres alot of black belt topics right now but i wanted to figure out why people novice martial artist and non martial arts think a Black belt is the be all end all( i have a guy at my dojo who goes "Im gonna be a 21 year old master soon") of course he thinks a black belt is the end but its only the start of real learning
  21. You misunderstood when i what meant by graceful. i mean that you flow and redirect your enemys energy in Aikido rather that break somebodys ribs then put them into an armbar then trip them at the same time punch them in the head in karate.Thats why i said graceful non destructive as opposed to breaking someones ribs, arm ect before or during the take down
  22. I was talking with a Police Officer who goes to my karate class. He said is that they dont really teach you any stuff like that just stuff like useing the gun, club ect but they dont make the police fighters. I dont know it maybe different in the U.S.
  23. ok Ted whatever do you need to do? I wonder why people always think that the low Kiba Datchi is always a sumo thing isnt it in Karate,Tae Kwon Do, varous Kung Fu styles(sorry cant name all 400 of them)
  24. That was a pretty good video. I would probably take aikido if i can ever find one around where i live. The katana kata at the end was cool but also like when one of the guys grabbed the staff and flipped the other guy over. The reason i asked if aikido hurt is because everyone moves so gracefully and it doesn't look destructive.
  25. Which alot of you guys will agree is the overuse of Generic Martial Arts terms.Like I take Shotokan karate but they dont even know any of the main styles and for you Wushu guys it must be worse. This is what the average person reconizes Karate Kung Fu Kick boxing and Muay Thai Wrestling Tai Chi But that fact of the matter is that they are ignorant and think if you take Karate and go to another club or dojo you can still keep your rank even though it could be a different Karate style like Shotokan to Wado-ryu Ps: Now i sounded like them by useing Karate generically to make my point
