  1. I will be joining a school, when I do I'll let you know. So for now I am " a student of one"
  2. Great attitude Zuluking ! I wish you good training until the 13th !
  3. Precyber Thank you. that's helps, I'll check it out, what I'm looking for are tournaments that are open to all styles.
  4. kchenault thanks for the link. While I was there a pair of swords ( if thats what there called) popped into my head. When I was younger a buddy and me would walk around the streets of Seattle, WA. going into all the pawn shops. I noticed these old rusty weapons hanging way up on the wall. If anyone can give me a name; Thanks ! I'll do my best to describe them. 2 to 2-1/2 ft. overall length. In a standing position, arms at your side raise your right arm at the elbow only and make a fist (thumb and forefinger being the top), imagine a handle in your fist. On the top and bottom of the handle are two flat bars going back almost to the elbow. In front of your fist a blade 3 inches wide parallel to your fist extending out 1 to 1-1/2 ft. to a point. I thought back then and I think today they are awsome and I want to learn their way.
  5. ....518 !
  6. I've been looking but haven't found any. If there are (anyone) please let us know. Thanks !
  7. Great idea Luckykboxer, I have small library and I hope it is as big as my culinary collection some day. I have many articles, books, and videos on Choy-Li-Fut if I can help, please let me know.
  8. I agree, I think monitary reasons are behind this. Is it questionable ? sure. I don't think your wrong in pointing it out. I think that we martial artist need to look at it in terms of today's student. As I read more from old masters and new, even here at KF about keeping an open mind to new ways. I don't see where a student of the chinese arts wearing a ranking belt will tant the style it-self.
  9. Welcome to KF !
  10. Hi, Welcome to KF !
  11. The Art of War: The Denma Translation Tai Chi's Ancestors; The Making of an Internal Martial Art by Douglas Wile
  12. It has always been a funny bone when my buddies are rolling around laughing as I real from the pain, yeah, been there, done that. You either stop or your elbows get tough enough to take the hit. Good Luck!
  13. I too have been researching "Chi". Chi Kung (Breathe Work, Air Work, Effort, Intention; please don't harp on me about correct translation; correct it if you must, but you know what I mean.) was designed to promote internal energy (Chi) through breathing, meditation, moving excersises, and standing postures. Developing this "empty force" practice, creating a chi kung method which helps practitioners achieve and even deeper and more effective level of chi control. To further define chi as related closely to the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. Some people call it the body's life force. Yoga stylists call it prana. It strengthens one's immune system, it slows down and partially reverses the effects of anti-oxidant damage to body cells. I think basically what it (Chi) is yet one more of the marvels that we have in our bodies, and just as you work on a technique to make it better, when you work on your breathing; which oxegenates the blood. The more oxegen we can put into our bodies, the better it preforms. Faster and clearer thinking, more strength with quicker muscle responce. It's a very interesting subject, and I am no expert; I study and practice faithfully I-chuan Chi Gong every morning. I am starting over, but back when I was a teen I did the same and I noticed after about 9 months(one should not focus on time, only daily practice) something happening to me, stronger indeed!
  14. That is the most testing I've ever seen , but that's a good thing!
  15. I picked my nick-name from the history books of Choy-Li-Fut. Chan Heung is the Founder of my lineage (1836) learned ma's from 3 people, one of them was Choy Fook a monk from the Northern Shaolin Temple who withdrew from the Buddist clergymen to become a laymen. His formal Buddist name Ching Cho (Green Grass). When he took his vows to become a monk, it was customary to have incense burn marks onto his head. However, due to severe burns, it left serious ugly scars on his head. This gave him the nickname "Rotten Head Fook" Why did I pick this name ? Because it popped into my head when I was registering at KF.
  16. Very good interview !
  17. KSN Doug, great read, I bow to you.
  18. I am still new at KF so I'm going through the posts. Your is yet another good story of which I've found so many. In my neiborhood we didn't have much entertainment so scrappin was just something to do. When I first sparred I was knocked on my can to control my enthusiasm, but either way you look at if, my first time sparring I was knocked on my can. From that point on I went on to experience many of the same things. Thanks for sharing !
  19. Great, let us know if you do and how you feel about it, have fun ! I'm curious about what you will get for $65.
  20. Hooter girls with not so many suds breaking cars in half with their bikinis..... Or I say a good old martial arts demonstration,(some exciting forms, breaking bricks, weapons) in a park, the middle of a road, shopping center. Raffle off some lessons. Autographed pictures of your association for sale. Write your local newspaper or station and try to get some press about positive community spirit your trying to do. The resturaunt idea is good, but don't stop there, ask other businesses too.
  21. So go all ready, you'll get cracked in the head, do a side step, break someones knee and you'll go home, after you stop rubbing your head you'll deside, because life is happening and you could be missing it. Anyone ? anyone ?
  22. I agree also, start out slow and go from there. I lift a little ( light weight, more reps) I don't want to get bulked. My CLF gives me the cardio, but riding a bike or running is an option for you too. I think it's ok to mix a variety of exersice into your routine as long as your not taking away from your MA. I free climb about once a month, do some laps at the pool, hackie-sack.
  23. Fat Donkey, I think thats great, very interesting where and how it started, I hope you like it, let us know how your doing! That's another name I will remeber: Imi Lichtenfeld founder of Krav Maga
