believe? i dont understand, does it work? that is all you have to know....its not a fairytale. throw a chudan uke into a jaw, throw a low block into the groin. there is nothing mystical about it.

every tournement ive been to calls for no kicks below the waist. and you wont need a karate uniform or belt, choose a division which you think is of your skill level.
-
my club is similar to yours, we also do tegumi, self defence, cdt,....not cqc though, although i bet some of the things we do are similar. my style is goju ryu

i cant ask now because i have ran out of time to ask......i know, pretty stupid of me.

i must write a sport resume for karate but im not really sure what it is or how to do it, so if any one could give me any enlightenment ASAP. if youve ever done one for martial arts or know about it please tell me. it is urgent. thank you sooo much p.s ive already searched on google with no luck

ya, my dojo does it. its a require to do once every class. i wasnt aware that lots of dojos are abandoning it

im testing on july 9th for my shodan. im in kitchenner...good luck on yours!

none of those things are wasted, they are all very important. you just have to unserstand what they actually do, i really dont have the time to explain them all but if your in a good dojo you will understand in time. and another thing, a move in a kata doesn't just have one application there is a huge range of possibillities. like mikiwaraman said there is no wasted movement in kata, they are all very deep and hold the roots of the style.

uh.....no. thats just common sense. if your sensei is any good he would not let you go. Have you told him?
-
you should forget this train of thought. everyone in the dojo is equal, there is no discriminating. this is why we where white gi's. if you get injured and dont want to. Tell the person you are sparring, tell them to go lighter and if they dont talk to your sensei. In my opinion people who just joined 2 months ago shouldn't being doing contact anyways.we dont do that until yellow.

yeah i think something similar has happened to me. i agree it may be anyone of the suggestions above, but deffiently it is a GOOD thing.

huh?....what point are you trying to make? who said sparring is not effective on the street? your right sparring is conrtolled...on the street people will fight dirty they will grab hold of you they will kick your legs out...whatever they want, it IS different. im not saying sparring is ineffective, rather a ballanced knowledge of sparring, grappling, and ground fighting is nescisary to do well on the street. but, i wouldn't even consider fighting on the street anyways.

that makes me want to throw up i am appaulled. a black belt should have more respect than that. they do not deserve thier rank. I just dont see the humor in "I dont follow a ranking system."

Still doubt the effectiveness of leg kicks?

why would you block such a low kick when you can just move out of they way. -
footwork game. have everyone spread out. you call out 1- everyone shuffles foward with jab, 2- back with a cross, 3- left jab-cross, 4 cross-jab. if they hesitate they sit out, if they get the punches in the wrong order they sit out, if they cross step they sit out..etc. you go until the last person i standing and that is the winner. you should tell them to sit out if you see them mess up, but make them aware if they know they did it wrong they should sit out on there own. it makes them practice honesty.

yup, my dojo. its an awsome place.

......im in canada on my 8th year of goju and do not have my black. dont base one club on a whole nation. anyways, shodan is just the start of ones path.

quickness doesnt always equal power, you can punch fast but you have to pull the punch and not sink it in, like you are whipping somone with a wet towel.

Stomach conditioning...all help appreciated!

whenever somone hits you you should breath out. i suggest focus pad drills with another person when they hit you breath out. this will condition you so when you actually get hit you will automatically breath out (make it a habbit). -
i dont like the spinning backfist, we dont do it in my dojo (dont know why), but the first time i saw somone do it was on the ultimate fighter. i dont know if the guy who performed it was an amatuer or what, but it opened him up entirely. if his opponent had any sense hed have shot in and taken him to the ground.

back kick. not spinning back kick.
