  1. we had a little contest at my club for a year to see who could do the most kata...it was not supposed to be just one kata, but thats what i decided to do. i did saifa 1000 times just on my spair time. i still consider myself a novice at the kata.
  2. the more you ask the longer you will wait. you must learn patience...the martial arts are more then just fighting.
  3. i would suggest the terminator 2 theme, or what would be really cool is a song called makai club it is from kill bill. ( the one that plays in the crazy 88's entrance into that japanese restaurant type place if you know what i mean) lol. or Prodigy- one man army, gangstarr- Battle (may not be appropriate) those are some songs i can think of, i havent done this in a ternament b4 but i pitty the closed minded people on this board, yes martial arts are designed to be well..martial, but you are forgetting the ARTS. it is also an expression of self, it is a stress reliever, it is physical health, it is enjoyment, it is a way of life. may i remind you this is partly why kata was implemented. it was karate disguised as a dance as not too arise the government that such traditons were continuing. if youve seen the last samurai you may have some idea of what im talking about. no where it is written that kata must not be done to music. if done properly you may be able to enhance the intensity, flow, focus, or energy of a kata set to music.
  4. i STRONGLEY urge you NOT to put your hands up like a boxer, the way they do it is correct. boxing hand position is designed for boxing only, thier large padded gloves protect the face and absorb impact. there is nothing to absorb the hit when you dont have gloves on. chaces are it will hurt just as much if not more.
  5. i dont know this kata, but my guess could be a break fall. there are an emense amount of possibilitys for each move in a kata, basically if it works, it right.
  6. there is no doubt it is because you are not pivoting your foot that is on the ground. it should pivot from pointing out to this side to pointing behind you when you thrust out the kick. this will increase your kicking strength emensly.
  7. chinese? this is japanese, im sure you meant japanese because kanji is japanese...or did you?
  8. have any one you seen the movie of bruce lees life? created with the assistance of his wife? arguably, bruce lee killed a man in under sixty seconds, thats after the fact that doctors told him he would never walk again! due to a harsh kick in the back. i have trained with a direct disciple of bruce lee, larry hartsell. he is 80 years old but he could kick my *. he has been featured in many magazines. BRUCE TAUGHT THIS GUY. im not saying bruce was the best, but, he was ONE OF THE BEST. people are saying hes gotten beat, UH DUH the man was not perfect. are you trying to tell me that no one ever beat this trovador guy? people make mistakes. bruce was soooooo fit , actually in one of bruces movies they actually had to slow down the tap to see the moves. if you have kazaa you can download bruce performing the famous one inch punch, the man he hits , falls to the ground. this is not a movie. people say jun fan JKD is not a great style. ill say this once IT IS NOT FOR AMATUERS. it is a very complex grappling system that will make an experienced martial artist like a newbie. and to people who say jet li would even have a chance too bruce lee you have been watching too manmy movies. jet li is a family man that no longer trains. have you ever seen jet take his shirt off? lol hes flabby. bruce on the other had is impressive, he is the most toned individual ive ever seen. if you have the movie THE ONE on dvd watch the extras, Jet emits he is not that great ANYMORE (he used to be one of the best but thats a different story). i also here people judging how good somone is by how many forms they know? give me a break, you gotta grow up. to say the least i am very UNimpressed with some of the comments made here i thought people on this site were more compitant than this.
  9. kardinal a rapper from toronto. choclair, benny bennassi, kayne west, buck 65 is kinda original. mamboleo by loona. anything by moby. PPK a russian techno group, ramstein especially du hast and bang bang, saliva, played-alive by safri duo, alice deejay, armand van halen, chinese folk music, heaven only knows by K-OS, por que no, punjabi mc, mysterious times by sash!. these are some songs and artistis i enjoy.
  10. a bmw 330 ci dinan 3, and an audi s4 biturbo
  11. really? in my dojo before my sensei enters he will stay at the door way to the dojo preparing to bow, then the senior belt says tsuke (attention) then the sensei and all bow together as the sensei says "rei osu" then we start class. but we only do somthing like that for the start. anybody else do this?
  12. i am a brown in goju ryu and i have some things to add. chojun miyagi traveled to china and studied shaolin in order to develop the style, you will find some similar moves. think of goju ryu as a hybrid of martial arts; strong powerful moves and slow flowing moves mixed into one art. while beggining goju it will most likley start off slow with mostly powerful moves when you gain in the rank you are introduced into more finese.
  13. such things are not alowed in my dojo...never would my sensei let people fight without gear, and never to the brutality to be breaking bones niehter would the people in my dojo go this hard on somone for absolutily no purpose. at my dojo we believe you can train more if your not in the hospital.
  14. meditate if you have no time to do actual physcial work invision yourself doing techniques or forms. it is a proven fact that your mind cannot distinguish between actually doing it and doing it in your mind.
  15. i have also heard shin as being heaven, or afterlife etc.. somthing like that. why is this? do the japanese use the word truth as heaven as when you die you will find the truth...im confused.
  16. you seemed to have misunderstanded..it is kyoshinkai not kyokushinkai. it is my fault i meant to state the in my initial post.....couldnt find a way to word it though.
  17. im not sure whether students are judging you, or YOU are judging yourself. you have only been there what four times? you may just not feel tottally comfortable there yet. you are thinking too much, go to karate and just do karate nothing else. no one else matters, if somone THINKS you are not serious about training what does it matter? is it true? NO.
  18. what does kyoshinkai translate to...........it is on a car website that has nothing to do with karate........but i know this word is used in martial arts.
  19. everything. no black belts, just me. i am usually assisting my sensei. i forgot to mention this is a kids class around 10-12 year olds. when i am helping my sensei i take them through the warm up and stretch but this is my first time teaching the full hour.
  20. i am in brown belt now and at my dojo you are required to teach a certain amount of classes before you can grade for your black. anyone have some suggestions on some activities , drills, or anything i can do? thanks
  21. i have already taken that into consideration, and ruled out that i most likely wont be posting here in 2-3 years.
  22. cant believe it, your the only other one than me. i only wear the best, Mikado.
  23. lol i posted this in the wrong section initially so lets just pretend it never happened........... Hi everybody, this is my first post here, i am 1st KYU (Brown Belt) in Go-Ju Ryu, and train at heritage martial arts in canada. I have trained under sifu Larry hartsell, one of bruce lee's direct disciples (for those of you who dont know him) in jeet kune do and intergrated kali and escrima arts. you can visit my dojo website at https://www.martialartskitchener.com , click on heritage martial arts. just thought i would introduce myself.
  24. lol, sorry......hmmm, all the other forums i am on have no introduction forum. i feel like such a noob
  25. it doesnt matter if 90% of fights end up on the ground or not. it is a made up statistic. as was said most people feel uncomfortable on the ground, teachers use this stat as a tool. to tell somone ground fighting is VERY IMPORTANT. i myself am weak in this area, and know i must improve, because if get on the ground im donefore. this is why this stat is around.
