  1. their video price is $10 less than tsunami but quality is way lower, I’ve bought 3 items, one was a bo kata which was working on some drives hardly and was not injected CD ,it was a burned CD. One shorin ryu kata which was filemed from front view only I enjoyed the katas which I already knew but there were 3 new katas created by sensei matsuda which I liked to learn but it was impossible with single angle pictures.
  2. this is what sensei Darell Craig told us tonigh that if you only know techniques and kumite, by the time you get old you are out ,the only way to stay in any MA to the end is to practice forms.
  3. here we go, how about aliens abduction. I'd like to see it,I'll check, sometimes you can read some pages of the book in amazon.com
  4. I hate kiai , if somebody kiai on me I'll work 2 times rougher on him. but I like kime it shows you are focused, if you have the ki,it naturally comes with kime.(or I am dead wrong?)
  5. motobu system has 12 pre-arranged kumite , they don’t do too much kata since sensei Motobu was not in favor of kata they practice Naihanchi shodan and Nidan and stance is Okinawan Naihanchi-dachi, I motobu family system the middle block is higher (up to your face) and when you block you go totally into the opponent body, they try to block right at the elbow joint. Fighting stance is altered Naihanchi-dachi. I know about these styles which have pre-arrenged kumiteh motobu-ha, shito-ryu,matsubayashi-ryu, shorinryu sensei needs to come in here for other shorin ryu styles. goju ryu also has something(kaki??not sure if it's kumite or waza)master Jules needs to come in for other naha-te styles.
  6. Aikido will improve your weight from 265 to 300 or more I think you can start by BJJ or JJ, later change to MMA.if you practice BJJ 3 times a week I promise you will also lose weight.
  7. you did not mention what style you been practicing before and what style now. 1- seisan(sesan) is common amoung most of the okinawan karate schools so there is no standard form 2-it may originated from shuri-te by bushi Matsumura 3-in shuri-te seisan starts with closed fist punch and block, in naha-te it can be open hand or closed fist punch at the begining. 4- all of them start with 3 punch/block 5- the key to recognition of seisan is at the end of first line ,when you turn back. in all the styles (that I am aware) you have 3 blocks ,one hand middle block palm up other hand low block palm down. 6- then in shuri-te you turn left for block and kick ,in Naha-te you turn right first 7- in shuri-te you have 2 hammer back fist comming from top of your head down to the middle 8- in shuri-te you have 4 of 180' turn in Naha-te you got 2, so shuri-te version is almost 2 times longer. if you turn left into shiko-dachi then your kata continues in 90' !!?, how they come back to their center line? in first line of seisan you can see 3 steps either in front stance or sanchin-dachi . good luck with new dojo, and allways ask from your sensei thats why he is there.
  8. our sensei was explaning how we may snap and mess up our knees during a takedown , the partner did exactly the same as he was talking and snaped his knee, He 's been out from last month.

    Tensho

Master jules do you have any article on proper way of sanchin-dachi and performing sanchin. I need to check my sanchin. I am getting different info. from diff. sources and they are not the same, I'd love to learn from a okinawan goju-ryu stylist.
  10. you got to learn the basics of your art from a teacher ,after that you can continue on your own, I read and watch whatever I can get, not only in my style but also in any other close or interesting style as well. in the down side you may realize what your sensei telling you is not %100 accurate. I have seen 3rd dan shito-ryu karate-ka who watched a pinan kata in shorin-ryu (matsubayashi-ryu)and said " it's been done sloppy, stances are not deep enough" not knowing that pinan was created like this and performer was sensei Nagamine.
  11. I've been attacked by flying objects , she aims for 10 points areas but thanks God up to now nothing more than 6-7 points.
  12. how much they charge?

  15. in shuri-te I love Naihanchi shodan , in Tommari-te I like passai, in Naha-te I like Anan

    It begins!

I can see you marching in Sanchin Dachi from classroom to gym. kidding, Good luck.
  17. Hello and wellcome to KF.
  18. Webb, Wellcome to KF
  19. Hey wellcome , and good luck with BJJ I like it too,
  20. Daisuke, First of all Wellcome . A real martial artist never hammer other styles, I just read the page and I can assure you this guy has no knowledge of other styles beside some boxing match he watches on TV or his game box. There is no way that you sweat and blood on the mat or ring and be disrespectful like this.
  21. Shorinryu sensei ; "Just a quick comment on this. Grizzley can't, and dont climb trees. Their claws are to long, even as young cubs. Adult black bear will climb trees, but as you said, as adults they don't as often as they do when younger. Also, a bear, if attacking you, won't climb a tree to get you. They will stay at the bottom of the tree, sometimes for DAYS, and wait you out. Grizzly are a very cunningcritter, and have been known to stalk you, set ambushes, run ahead of you as you walk and attack you after you think they are far behind and safe. " is it possible for a human to kill a bear by knife ? is there any report or claim about such a encounter.
  22. Dlopez, Hey man long time no see. about the K-1 that you mentioned the difference is glove ,key to karate take down is grabbing the hand or shoulder of the same leg, you can't do this with gloves on. Rest of the story I am agree with you and SEVENSTAR
  23. I just don’t try to be politically correct, My answer was practical if you enjoy a hard style normally you won’t change it for a softer style just because you moved, I have nothing against Korean styles and I am sure they pretty good, and also I don’t know your preferences, So my answer was very general. I changed from Shotokan since I didn’t like the Japanese deep stances I preferred more practical katas which I found in Shorin-ryu. About the Kenpo ,I did some research for you and under ‘recreations and sports’ I saw a kenpo karate school in Midland KERRY'S KENPO KARATE Kerry Hatley 10520 ECR 109 Midland, TX 79705 (915)685-0586 Good luck I hope you find a good Dojo, keep us posted.
  24. On the street :You kick high== they take you down. I think in real situations %99 of people throw their snap kicks without quick retraction Which gives the opponent a good chance of grabbing and take down.
  25. you already trained in Karate ,you're not gonna like Korean arts, I saw a Kenpo school in your area ,did you try that, you may like it.
