yes but i dont see many kickboxers punching like a pro boxers either! -
Thats cool Aefibird, sounds like you go to a good dojo! I think its good when an instructor has the ability to do this.

yes this is it and ive always got the MT if they are really determined to have fistycuffs! -
Good points Warlock. I think that it would be possible to use Aikido, at least from what i have seen, to subdue the AVERAGE drunk that picks a fight, at least in the UK it would be. That would be good becuase the last thing you need is all his mates joining in. I think that Aikido could be very useful. I do MT as well and would us this this if all else fails but by that point my mentallity is that uts a fight to the death unless i knock them out. It would be great to have a system like this as well.

Yeah i would still spend as much time doing MT but add Aikido or Silat, maybe both!!! Im going towards Aikido at the moment because it wont conflict as much with the striking and as someone posted earlier it is good prefight, when people are pushing etc. -
I really like the point made earlier by Guy_who_fights. That Aikido is really useful PRE-FIGHT. I can see that you can get a great mental edge on your wouldbe attacker if you caqn throw them across the ground when they are trying to push you which is how almost al fights i have seen have started. I had already been considering Aikido but i think i will really go and start some training.

I did now its got lost as you are on a mission. Im not posting on this anymore.

yes, lol do you get it now. You didnt understand so i tried to reverse it on you. I think it worked.

Never see things like this as bad. You never know what may come of it, you might get in next year and circumstances may lead yo to better opportunities. If you want to do it keep going. Reminds me of a story i once heard. When Edison was trying to get the light bulb to work a reporter asked him "you have failed over 400 experiments why do you keep going" Edison replied "I have not failed 400 times, i have found 400 ways that dont work" He then went on to say"The first requisite for success is to develop the ability to focus and apply your mental and physical energies to the problem at hand - without growing weary." After more than 1000 experiments he gave us the light bulb. Keep going, dont stop, you may have to take other jobs even before you succeed, but dont stop.

Tactics against a Boxer

Boxing Master is spot on once again. Alternatively you could use a cross between "hand of the unseen bear" mixed with flamenco. To give it a latin tiwst. -
My point exactly. The descriptiopn of Muay Thai was rubbish

I have downloaded some training videos of silat. I think it looks interesting, the tak downs are different and look like they work well i realy like tthem, the ground fighting looks good and i like the way they move around their opponent making it disorientating, i think there is alot to learn from it. The stand up stuff however looks aweful. But hey, thai boxing is pretty useless on the ground! -
I find i cant train under another instructor easily in the same system, like a loyalty thing i guiess. You may be feeling the same. I would have to change system.
-
Im trying to point out that ts not good when people get theyre facts wrong, get the picture, making generalized statements about systems whilst having little or no knowledge.
-
sounds good to me cant see any disadvantage in doing that

lol i know what you mean. My boxing instructor is a kali/escrima (same thing) insutructor as well trained under Cacoy Canete. Ive sone a bit but not enought yet, will focus on it one day. Like the look of silat, might go to a show and check it out. Im always looking at other systems to see if they are worth studying. -
No style is designed for the battle field. I have a hard time beliving systems that claim to be battlefield systems that were invented by one person. Mauy Thai evolved on the battle field and is the unarmed system used when your weopons aer lost etc. It is essentially the asme system but it evolves all the time adding new techniques as any battlefield art does. Not like so called battlefield systems that were invented during the twenties by one person..
