Ba Qua/ Pa Qua
turonaga replied to daeinwolf's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
i'm curious. what is the style of Pa qua chang are you practicing or that dojo is practicing? -
i train for free but we charge the junior students on monthly basis. the money usually goes to the fuel of our sensei and food if we have somkind of gathering or party etc. we all used to train for free all you have to do is show up with a minimal fee for registration but younger students seemed not to take the training seriously since its for free. sensei and i also used to teach private lessons but students tend to control our time. students should wait for the teacher not teacher waiting for the student.

why start with instructing kids?
turonaga replied to gimgamgommetje's topic in Instructors and School Owners
yes very difficult to teach children. even if i remove "children" from my statement it wud still be a very valid statement. who says teaching martial arts is easy? that's why i don't teach nor allow children to join in training. exactly -
nope, no knuckle push ups for me nor will i allow it in my juniors. but we do finger push-ups (diving push up and regular) our reason, we just want to toughen the first two knuckles, plenty of way to do that without knuckle push ups.

Where are you on the striker/grappler scale?
turonaga replied to iolair's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i prefer striking but i practice grappling. locks and pinning techniques even ripping techniques are still grappling right? my art isn't just a striking art. -

What has TKD done for you?
turonaga replied to Mr. Hall's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
why? is tae kwon do merely a sport? no. a tool to attract women? maybe tae kwon do saved my niece from being rape. my niece's savior was a girl also. a brown belt. the attempted rapist was unconcious, long enough for the police to arrive. tae kwon do have gained my respect. -
Judo vs Aikido
turonaga replied to broomhilda000's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
if you take the time to throw, why throw? why? all you practice is throw? certainly kodokan is not just merely throwing and aikido not merely pinning and immobilization. -
Wearing shoes for martial arts
turonaga replied to Rich_2k3's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
shoes should and must never hinder you in martial arts. any shoes i wear don't bother when i do my karate. be it combat boots, leather boots, formal shoes or any shoes for that matter how much more if i don't wear one. -
Judo vs Aikido
turonaga replied to broomhilda000's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
judo isn't just slamming someone to the ground. judo does not only focus on one vs one. its has application on multiple opponents so is aikido. judo emphasizes practice with a partner (tori or nage and uke) so is aikido. judo has submission techniques so is aikido. however both has different principles of training. judo focuses first on body then the mind while aikido mind first then the body follows. judo is a competitive art while aikido is an art without compitition (well, some styles develop a system to compete in aikido) what else? -
i also hope to hear from shihan kubota's disciples. i thought it resembles kyukoshin but that just what i thought.
