  1. Anybody going to Halifax April 7?
  2. If you can not fit into a size 6 belt/gi you aint training at my dojo!
  3. many of not most of the sensei in okinawa who only teach kobudo will only teach it to those who already have a high karate dan rank.
  4. just dont say SHO-TOE-CAN lol
  5. With so many legit styles of kobudo to chose from, why go eclectic?
  6. No sir, Warrener Ryu is not my cup of tea.
  7. And where does your kobudo "chart" take you? Did your sensei's sensei train with Akamine, Matayoshi, Taira or Sakugawa? How about Chinen Sanda? Remember Miyazato Ei'ichi Sensei did not study kobudo.
  8. Chad do you still train the Don Warrener kobduo?
  9. Kobudo and Karate are not one in the same. In Okinawa many many people ONLY train kobudo. In Canada esp. the Don Warrener/Richard Kim schools tend to do both. Or at least they try. I mean how many rabbits can you chase? Okinawa Goju Ryu is hard enough to master if you really want to MASTER it.
  10. Your belt is too long if while you're wearing it and look down at your belly button your belt can reach to your eye. Once somebody lost an eye during a kumite match. Imagine that!
  11. ultimately, genetics will determine your flexibility.
  12. If as a teacher it takes you 10 years to get your adult or teen-aged students to black belt, then you should quit teaching cause you are a s.h.i.t.t.y instructor. Heck I can start University and become a Dentist in less than 10 years! or Join the air force and fly F-16 or CF-18 fighter jets in less than 10 years!
  13. Osu is not in the Japanese dictionary by this I dont mean an English to japanese translation dictionary I mean it is not a real Japanese word. it is a slang...like saying "YO WHAT UP DAWG" or "Wasssssssuuuuup" or "Fo Shizzle Ma Nizzle" Ask any Japanese person who does not do martial arts what "Ous" means and they will not know! It is SLANG which in many cases would make it rude!
  14. find a new dojo and start over, learn from your exp.
  15. looks like they just made the video clip for their web site because Otto is from UK and kyobukan is in toronto canada.
  16. he's shotokan I believe.
  17. Join a dojo where the students are actually in shape LOL
  18. check it http://web.295.ca/cosway/more.wmv
  19. http://freespace.virgin.net/mike.clark/sodokan24.htm Steve from Ontario Canada was asking about video, well Mike Clark has quite a few links on his site that directs the karate-ka to web sites who have video on them. Good Luck / Ganbatte
  20. Makes sense Steve. well then I would surf the net for goju ryu kata's but keep in mind that your dojo's kata will be a little bit different from what you see on the net... I'll post a good site later today.
  21. Yes he is the best fighter to ever come out of the UK. (some say) To win 1x at the wuko/wkf is hard enough! He must be the man, I hope I get to meet him some-day.
  22. OH my, the big guy in those video is not doing goju ryu. He mihgt be doing goju ryu kata but he aint doing goju ryu LOL. The poor guy should get a refund from his teacher. He has broken every rule of goju ryu, his basics are not even up to yellow belt level. On a different note: Tsuroka karate is very different from what John Bak teaches so hang in there and be patient, you'll have some new stances to learn.
  23. there are no videos avalable about your style of goju, be patient Johnny will teach you all the katas and also ask the seniors to help you as well. Johnny Bak (Renshi) is a great guy!!!
  24. in a good dojo the senpai is suppose to help the kohai, it's their giri...so take all the help you can get. and by the way thank you for sharing the story it was great to think back to when I was in your shoes 20 years ago.
  25. Is your teacher John?
