  1. Yes it is Catherine Tate, but I'm not bovvered to see her there. CT is only in the Christmas Special, the new companion (Freema Agyeman who is playing Martha Jones) will be introduced from the start of the next series. Well, I'm 27, so most of the Doctors were before my time anyway, but there's just something about Tom Baker that I like. I can't believe that no one else on here apart from me and KK watches/has watched Doctor Who??!! I know it airs in the US/Canada, so surely someone on here must watch it?
  2. Good luck!! I'm sure you will be fine. If your instructor thinks you are ready then you are. Have confidence in yourself and your abilities.
  3. Four I like: http://www.mousebreaker.com/index.php - Online games, some totally addictive! http://www.overheardindublin.com/index.php - funny stories, overheard conversations from Dublin http://tinyurl.com/ - makes huge URLs smaller, handy for posting links on forums http://www.gallifreyone.com/ - Outpost Gallifrey, I like it because I'm a DW nut!
  4. Anyone here watch Doctor Who? If so, please vote on the poll and let us know your favourite Doctor. It was the last episode of the current series last night here in the UK - wow, what an ending! I can't wait for the Christmas Special, I'm dying to know how the woman in the bride's dress got into the TARDIS!
  5. I don't have any children (I can't) but I often look after my god-daughters. Therese, who is 2 (and also a blackbelt in being a monkey) and Madison who is 5 months.
  6. I'm sorry to hear that. My condolences to you, especially to your son. When I was younger I had a cat that preferred to stay in the house and would only go out for an hour or two at a time. This one day, he'd been gone for about 5-6 hours so I went out looking for him, only to find him lying by the side of the road. He'd been hit with a car and had obviously crawled to the side of the road to die. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. The death of a pet is very traumatic - they become family members. At least Ryan has made a memorial to remember her by.
  7. http://www.natkd.com/tkd_forms.htm This is a great site for TKD and TSD forms.
  8. Sounds like it was a great time! Congratulations on your sucess. I hear ya on Delta Airlines - flew on them the last time I went to the USA. Never again, please! I had better service and was more on time flying with a little firm in Kenya, whose plane looked as though it wouldn't get out of the hanger in one piece, let alone hurtle through the skies.
  9. TKD is often based because it is a popular art and (with anything that is popular) there are some dodgy clubs out there. Happened in the past when the Kung Fu bug was about, same with Karate. There will always be con-men who try to jump on a bandwagon and sell rubbish packaged as good stuff. Count Dante, anyone? Plus, there's the whole aspect of TKD being an Olympic sport. There are moves afoot to change the nature of TKD sparring in the Olympics - I think that those in charge are waking up to the fact that TKD is becoming a laughing stock in certain quarters. Fighters with their hands by their sides and 2 mins of bouncing round looking like you're on an invisible pogo stick does no favours to the rest of TKD. Plus, people don't make the distinction between martial art and martial sport. Both areas can exist side-by-side in any club - my WTF FTD club has a proven competition record but also teaches realistic and workable self defence and knife defence. Indeed, SD techniques are a required part of the grading syllabus, so anyone who wants to be a blackbelt will at least get there with a decent knowledge of what to do should the worst happen. However, there are a lot of people out there who don't see that TKD can be martial art as well as martial sport. Plus, as the saying goes you can't teach an old dog new tricks. If someone is so determined to think that TKD is useless then they will think it, no matter what.
  10. It's good, we do a lot of those sort of drills at my Karate club. It's kind of similar (but also not) to Chi Sau drills used in Wing Chun - good for improving sensitivity and flow (hence the name).
  11. Congratulations Red J - a well-deserved award.
  12. I'm WTF TKD. For competition fighting, we do Olympic sparring, as well as stop-start points sparring and continuous sparring where punching is encouraged, unlike Olympic rules. I think we're pretty unusual, I've not heard of many WTF clubs who spar regularly using 3 different rule sets. Most just stick to the Olympic rules. We also do a lot of weapons work, as well as self-defence and knife-defence.
  13. I train WTF TKD and we keep our hands up - get a telling off and press-ups if we don't.
  14. Karate-kid.co.uk will split uniforms on request, for a charge. They ship internationally too. I have a bigger top than I do bottoms because of my, uh, womanly assets so I always find that if I buy a uniform that is all one size the trousers are often too large. I'd love a custom made one, but can't afford it.
  15. No, it's not!! A 5 foot spider - it gives me the creeps to even think about it. I have to close my eyes whenever there's a spider shown in a film or on television. LOTR and Harry Potter were killers for me - those giant spiders!! Eeek!
  16. I like them, especially the first one.
  17. Sorry to hear that. Emergency teams should have sirens/lights when there's traffic around. Glad to hear you're OK, though.
  18. I hope there's gonna be chocolate fudge cake!!
  19. I had one out and it went mostly OK. It wasn't really painfull having the tooth out, just more uncomfortable. I'm a total wimp when it comes to dentists - the thought of going makes me feel shakey and sick but my dentist is great and really helps put me at my ease. After I'd had the tooth out I had a dry socket, which was painful but nothing that ibuprofen or co-codamol couldn't handle. The worst part for me was beforehand - expecting it to be awful and horrible, but it wasn't actually. I wasn't in any pain at all when I was in the dentists chair.
  20. Hey, you never know - stranger things have happened, even in hockey!!
  21. lol, I talk to myself a lot Patusai! You're not the only one!! A couple of years ago I took some of the kids I work with on a school trip to Sherwood Forest. They were working with the Ranger for a session and I was just wandering round taking photographs whilst they were busy. At one point the Ranger had all the children gathered around him in a big circle playing a game, so I thought it would make a nice group picture to have on the classroom wall. I called to all the children to smile and stepped back to take their picture...and tripped over a log that was behind me. Because I'd asked all the children to smile for the pic they were all looking at me...and saw the whole incident. I was so embarassed!
  22. I think you did the right thing. You tried to help your friend first and didn't just go in there "all guns blazing" ready to show off your MA skills. Instead you used your MA training as a last resort. Hope your friend is OK.
  23. Welcome to the forums. There's plenty of other Kenpoists kncking around, I'm sure that you will get into some good discussions.
  24. Who do people think will win the Stanley Cup? I think if it had gone to 3-0 Hurricanes then they would've won outright. As it is, Oilers stand a much better chance of winning now it's only 2-1. I think if they can keep their heads and work on keeping a solid defence then the Oilers could win the whole thing.
  25. Same here, I'm the fastest thing on 2 legs if I discover a spider in the house.
