  1. I'm up to 6 now. I'm still working on the design for my next piece. Yes, very reckless, especially if the club closes or he quits. That's why for my MA tatt I purposely didn't have the club logo. Plus, I'd been training for about 3 & 1/2 - 4 years whan I got mine done.
  2. BTW, thanks Joanne! Much appreciate it.
  3. Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage Busling! Good luck with the wedding (and the dancing ).
  4. I'd say go for it! Cross-training is a common thing these days - many people (myself included) train in more than one martial art at the same time. You've been training long enough in Goju to know the difference between Goju and TaeKwonDo, so you should be OK with that side of it. Good luck!
  5. Nice clip. Who are the two players? I'd vote either TKD or Judo, although I do think that one judoka should wear a blue gi and one judoka wear a white gi - it might make it a bit easier to see on a TV screen what was happening. Does Olympic TKD score for hand techniques (or are they planning on introducing such a rule if it's not in place?)
  6. I've started back up with keeping a journal again! I'm gonna try hard to keep it up this time - it's a great resource to have.
  7. Good luck in your search!
  8. Get well soon pittbullJudoka!
  9. Yes, click here for more details.
  10. Wing Chun - named after Yim Wing Chun. Aikido- The way of spiritual harmony.
  11. Make sure that you drink plenty of water and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. It is easy to get dehydrated when you're doing a lot of physical activity, so make sure you regularly have water.
  12. I usually tend to look at the upper chest or neck. Not stare at that area but allow my gaze to settle where without actually just looking at that area. It's almost like looking without looking - your eyes are on a specific area of the body but you can see the whole clearly so that you you don't miss what's coming.
  13. Good info - thanks Kicks!
  14. I dunno but his name crops up a lot... :D Son Goku, concentrate on what you can do. If your best techniques are a reverse punch and a roundhouse kick (for example) then stick with those. Trying to incorporate extra techniques that you're not familiar with or that you can't do as well is not a good idea in the middle of a match. Practice those things in your club with your instructor. If you stick with what you know then you're more likely to suceed than if you try something new and make a mess of it.
  15. I find that changing direction suddenly works better for me. If all else fails try shouting "Quick! Look behind you!! " Well.. there might be someone out there who is gullable enough for it to work on.... I think that the person who would fall for that goes to my dojo. He's 14 and a nice kid, it's just he's very gullable and easily led. One time Sensei said to him "your shoelaces are undone"... and he looked to check, even though he was barefoot.
  16. Do you mean for world championship fights? Like title fights in boxing? Is it just for TKD bouts in the UK or for worldwide?
  17. You are never too old to start martial arts. I started when I was 20 and I love every minute of it!
  18. Games are all very well but not to the point where they are overshadowing the teaching of MA. I use games occasionally with my beginners class, but probably only once a month or so. I try to make the class interesting for them (there's a difference between interesting and fun) but in the end, I'm there to teach those kids karate, so that's what I try and do.
  19. In my dojo we have a lady who started just because she fancied our instructor. Her son had been coming to classes and she used to sit and watch the class (well...watch Sensei). She started karate because of a crush but carries on going now because she likes the MA so much. This guy will probably get over it in time. If he's not said anything directly to you then I wouldn't worry about it. His friends may be wrong or may have told you for a joke or whatever.
  20. Nah, I didn't forget it. I just thought that seen as I'd come up with quite a few other reasons I'd let someone else chip in with the rest!!
  21. Great! Keep going!
  22. Is anyone from the UK going to SENI? Have you been before? I'm planning on finally going this year - I've tried to get there for the past three years but never managed it...
  23. I love coffee, but I don't tend to drink it before class as I end up with a dry mouth (even if I drink water after coffee). Plus, I tend to find that coffee before class makes me 'crash' afterwards. I usually stick to coffee in the morning and just try and drink plenty of water or maybe some fruit juice before class.
  24. Good luck with your injury! Take time and be patient (not what you want to hear I know... ) because it's better to have too much time off 'just in case' than go back training too soon and cause further damage. When I used to horseride a lot I damaged my knee. Because I had a major competition coming up I didn't give it half as much rest as I should have done and was back in the saddle far too soon - now my knee is is a bad state and I'm waiting for surgery on it. If I'd spent more time resting all those years ago it would probably not be like it is now. BTW, good luck for when you take your BB test!
  25. wow, haha, i should try something like that. but yeah, we are suppose to dodge kicks in capoiera, but once in a while, they kick fast and it will get you. but thanks for the advice, i will do something where a fried will elt me or something.Maybe you could get a friend to repeatedly strike you in the face - close enough to try and set off your blink reflex but not so that they hit you. Try and stay calm and relaxed whilst the strikes are coming towards you - visualise yourself not blinking and being able to see clearly. If you keep practicing and trying to relax then you will be able to avoid blinking when sparring. Good luck!
