  1. http://www.wingchun-sf.com/resource/currpics/101-18close.html this is the easiest showing like a wam up we used to do in Karate basically punching from standing position
  2. http://realisticselfdefense.tripod.com/WT_punches.html also http://www.kamonwingchun.com/KamonBasics.asp
  3. a skilled fighter in any art is going to be a challenge. An unexperienced figher I would rather fight anyday. because they will telegraph their moves, they have not been taught properly how to strike and probably how to take a blow. Kick them in the knees/groin. Remember to move about yourself. Never ever get too stationary. you sound inexperienced yourself. anyone going crazy and swinging/ charging is only going to intimidate a beginner. Get practising and you will feel better I 'fear' the unknown - i.e someone you don't know what they will do or are capable of. Whether they have a hidden weapon / mates ready to back them up etc.
  4. A striking art combined with grappling experience is the best bet if you really want to be effective. Karate and Ju Jitsu would make you well versed in both. but as my instructors told me about fighting 'if you run away you stand a much better chance of not getting hurt than fighting!'
  5. Boxing. Because knocking someone out is effective! But I'd much rather learn to use all my body parts to fight.
  6. heck in a single style of Karate you get to learn so many techniques how could you learn several styles at once? I'm sure this would confuse anyone. Get to the 1st dan of one style and if you want to then go and do another style Are you a full time martial arts person?
  7. T Bell means nothing here in slimland UK!
  8. in what I've watched I've seen more knockout blows delivered in Karate fights than Kickboxing This is I'm guessing due to the point scoring system in free competitions long fights are draining so Kickboxers seem to save their energy and jab kick/ punch I know these are generalisations but from what I've seen it's correct.
  9. I forgive you though you are a lady
  10. yes it is dammit the innocence of youth censorship. death. heaven and hell foul language bigotry against Canadians a happy ending all with excellent tunes and brilliant animation I feel like singing right now!
  11. Also actually watching people do Karate well is impressive. The grace, precision and power of Katas, the flexibility, speed and power of great kicking, the concentration when sparring. It all encouraged me to think 'if I trained I could do all that' and so I did.
  12. Wado Ryu Karate contains locks, holds and throws as well as all the standard Karate stuff. so you get to punch them, grab them, spin them to the ground and THEN kick them but only when training of course!
  13. Hitting a bag weighing 100 pounds sounds like tough work. Maybe I'm just lazy Hitting people in the face/groin is much more effective than the body I've seen 50, 80, 100 and 150lb bags
  14. Swords are great. As much as I loved learning Karate I would rather have had a sword if I was going to fight someone
  15. I think full contact without padding is dangerous. The way my instructors did sparring was based on the simple fact that Karate strikes aim to disable or even kill and are delivered to specific areas of the body. (eyes, throat, solar plexus, groin, knee being the most obvious) practising such moves at full power and speed without padding could not be justified by them. Light padding, no strikes to groin, knee or throat, medium power was our practise method. sure you can say this way is a joke/unrealistic if you want. Who wants painful injury from sparring? for the military it's justified.
  16. Hajime is here. I'm full of saracasm and spite. maturity and fun. dam it's cold in London now. Especially when there's a power cut
  17. Hello I got my name because every lesson started with this word. and ended in sweat, aches and friendly banter
  18. one on one in a ring with a ref then if you are a grappler being on the ground is good. doing this in a non ring fight if there's any chance of a 2nd attacker sounds a horrible idea. then again I'm an ex Karate-Ka so I'm biased
  19. Bas Rutten? excellent I'm download some. Don't get me wrong, watching Gracie defeat fighters shows brilliant skill and effort within the confines of the UFC rules. Just punching and kicking when done well generates such tremendous power I'm surprised to see striking martial artists perform so poorly.
  20. ahhh take don't offence swords in the UK are normally only seen in Police reports and those carrying them go to prison... I'm sure you are sane and have a good reason to want this equipment.
  21. excellent but a bit sneaky. how about stamping on a person's chest or a strike to the groin? the former I believe is valid can you kill with the latter as films suggest?
  22. ahhh rereading this in the miserable office light of day I can see the non stop humour throughout this post. Another intellectual being 'Princess Diana' ahem
  23. and in the UK one of the? biggest demonstrations ever was held against the war. the Prime Minister isn't exactly poplular. I agree with the French position on this one. I won't stereotype them anymore than I will a yank
  24. search for this file on Kazaa for example of what I mean: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu vs. Karate
  25. not many good films out recently LOTT 2 towers is fantastic Braveheart rocks but the film is not historically accurate. Alien/Aliens/ T2. City of God, Irreversible. Pulp Fiction South Park - The Movie all classic films. seriously and many more but got to go 2 bed now
