  1. I was about to bring that up ..but you beat me to it . . . with that aside, he did train with quite a few people.. wally jay, lebelle to name a couple. He did train in wing chun for five years under wong shun leung / william chueng i think.. he basically had a foundation to build upon.. "JKD is based on what i have learned and my evaluation of it" a lot of his original students often commented on how they considered themselves training dummies for bruce ..but yeah.. he didn't really self teach that great a deal he still trained on a peer basis.
  2. easy. take a break.. get some water..
  3. wing chun, choy li fut, they seem most applicable, maybe if done right ..tai chi?
  4. you want at least an hour to two hour sessions a day. my training sessions are typically two to almost three hours a day.
  5. thanks for the welcome guys.. I know i'm gonna like this place
  6. if that's what you want, go ahead. There might be consequences or what not, but if you alread y accepted what might be you should be okay..
  7. I wouldn't trust completely what bleecker says..
  8. mine are usually self help sort (manuals, compilations , etc), but i do enjoy a good thriller, good coming of age stories (the giver), chronicles of narnia etc..
  9. will your dad allow him to get into weight training or muscle building type workouts (i don't mean BODY builder)? But since you say he's small go with something like aikido or jijutsu (japanese or brazilian should be fine).
  10. even Chuck admitted in a street fight with no rules that Lee would have won against him. He was more of a fighter in hong kong..let's just say that school wasn't his #1 priority ..
  11. i have a few obstacles. Being a full time student, errands for my parents and siblings, and the schedule of my friend whom I train with
  12. I should have done this before actually posting but the fire couldn't escape me. I apologize. My name is Lester. I studied wushu - jKD concepts when I was kid, then i took aikido after such a long layoff (it was offered at the university i attended for only one year[academics..something i really regret]), and currently training in Jeet Kune Do. I Came here to hopefully help others understand what JKD is really all about. Till then, Take Care boys and girls Les
  13. poteet wasn't certified by Bruce.. he was certified by Dan Inosanto .. a picture on jerry meyer's website shows that he was a part of dan's backyard group for an extensive period of time. the only people directly certified by Bruce were Ted Wong, Dan I, James Lee, and Taky Kimura. I would say check him out though..anyways. .it's worth a shot. .won't know unless you get your feet wet
  14. read Jesse Glover's between wing chun and Jeet Kune Do... and read some stuff from pat strong.. he learned a lot about bruce's personal method in combat (the way he fought) from his good friend hawkins cheung.
  15. can't believe that this thread has gone on for this long but that's way cool.. shows people are passionate about this stuff.. I think and hope .. .ultimate style? nope.. none that i know of.. JKD isn't a "theory" btw.. (that's another post i got on here) it's up to the individual .. only the individual can make it work . I personally haven't seen JKD or krava maga duke it out (although it would be quite interesting ).. but i can see PRACTITIONERS of these respective arts duke it out.. they're the ones expressing themselves out there not the arts.. the art isonly means of advancing the study of the way. .it's all about training, attitude, and want to, and that is not exclusive to any one style..
  16. I want to answer your question but what do you mean when asking us what we do as JKD practitioners? our mentality? methodology, or how our training environment is like? etc.. that's all have a good one, LS
  17. I've often contemplating doing such a thing myself, but i'm further convinced that i should get a solid base in what i'm doing now before i intend to branch out so to speak, but then again, JKD has a lot to offer already.
