Pineapple makes a good point. Even if you have a YMCA or Community center near you sometimes guys teach there. I don't suppose you are near Port Augusta, Whyalla or Tumby Bay?

Niel I know this is off topic...but were you the one testing for first dan and if so did you pass?

Well you might be able to learn it yourself...depends on how intuitive you are at it. I would think however it would be very very difficult. I also find it hard to beleive theres no instructors where you live. As to training...generally its pretty basic. Start by stretching, get warmed up by doing punching or kicking drills, do some falling (not recommended without someone that knows what they are doing watching you), do some forms or one steps, do some sparring, cool down at the end.

T shirts are ok for non contact but if you try to grab and throw someone in one they will tear. -

Do V-Neck Uniforms Fit Obese People?
tufrthanu replied to liquidkudzu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well as a v neck uniform is basically the same as any pullover item of clothing I don't see why not. As long as it is big enough. The problem I think comes from that most of the major companies that make v necks make them too small. Both Rheemax and Addidas sizes are much smaller than say Macho. -
You will find that on the whole asian languages don't pluralize anything. If you said I have one box or five boxes in english, in japanese you would say I have one box or five box.

Well thats as may be aodhan but if you are looking for bona fide information on Numchucks you're probably not gonna get many hits.

First off they are properly called Nunchaku. Secondly they are very dangerous to both an attacker and defender if the defender doesn't know how to use it. Flail type weapons are used in many cultures. Some of the benefits are that they have an unpredictable direction because of the flexible connector. That they can wrap around an enemies weapon. Detriments are that you have to watch for the recoil. Nunchaku can be used most effectively as an offensive weapon. Defensively they are limited to catching a weapon with the cord or chain...not a good idea if its a blade and your nunchaku have a cord. And blocking with one of the shafts. Fumia Demura has a book on Nunchaku techniques. I know there are forms for nunchaku but I dont think his book has any in it.

Axe Kick worries.
tufrthanu replied to Superfoot's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Well any pain is bad. Whether it severe or not. And the tightening could be a sign of the muscle trying to heal torn connective tissue. HOnestly you should really be resting it. Stretching is fine but ice it and dont do any dynamic stretches or high kicks. -

I found that Kung Fu Hustle was actually quite a bit more serious than Kung Pow. I mean KFH had its comical parts too...but the whole deaf-mute girl plot was serious. Probably would be considered a Dramedy if it werent an MA film. -

I think White Warlock made some excellent points. And to masterh I weigh 285 pounds on a slim week...so I know what it is about being slow. I tend to get pounded alot in sparring...but it also surprises me at how little difference speed wise between the fastest guy and the slowest guy. -

I would think if there were two different sized opponents AND you could get them into the order you wanted, you'd want the small guy in front as he wouldnt hit as hard. In a street confrontation however I've heard that if there is one that seems to be bigger and or in charge of the others take him out first. This will give the others pause before attacking. -

Well I was recently introduced to the 2 guys on one thing. We never did it at my old school. I was tired by the time we got to it at the end of class but it basically the tactics were to keep your opponents in a line...rather than letting them split around you. This way only one guy can get at you at a time. They also told me that in a real situation I shouldnt even wait...once I realize that multiple attackers are coming at me take one down immediately. Break a knee guy falls down. Break a knee guy falls down. So on and so forth. -

Here are some schools in CA that are ITF. http://www.usitf.com/ Go to the link that says schools. Theres one for Brentwood...but I think thats Brentwood up by SF not LA. Theres also one in Santa Barbara and on in San Diego. YOu might also want to contact those two instructors and ask if they know of anyone in your area. -

Someone correct me if im wrong...but those characters look alot like Ong Bak Which is a movie that just came out. Ong Bak Thai Warrior. -
Well, it looks like Sierra Leone is just getting over a civil war. So it will probably be slim pickings. But it sounds like youve already made up your mind. You don't want shotokan or thai boxing. So you just need to check out the judo school.

Kicks only found in TKD

I think any style that involves jumping will have those kicks. So that would probably be mostly korean and chinese styles.
