For Japanese/Okinawan bo work the bo should be about 6 inches longer than the user is tall. Or as close to it as the standard 4,5 and 6 foot bo's go. Some times you can find one that comes in the intermediate lengths, 4 1/2, 51/2 as well.
I see your point. We tend to like to rush into things. Waiting a bit longer to start kobudo training would definately help some see better the purpose behind what they were learning. Some just never get it though.
I have seen some information about the ice hotel on a tv show a few years ago. There is also one in an old salt mine somewhere in Europe. It is supposed to be a good place to visit for those with breathing difficulties.
