  1. Here is a link to a site that lists colors and examples of how different colors associate that color with a particular meaning. http://dinotopia.sphosting.com/colors.html
  2. In regard to a gi question I thought it would be nice to learn a bit about the significance of colors in Japan. Not race, colors like in colors of the rainbow. So I am in the midst of a search. First bit: The Japanese culture is no different then any other culture for giving special meaning or significance to each color. White is for purity, black is for sorrow, green for life, blue for calm coolness, gold for luck and prosperity, red for life as a few examples. 3. Some schools pay a lot of attention to tradition. The color white has a lot of significance in Japanese tradition.
  4. Here was a few of the threads. There are more. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7778 http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7894
  5. There are some other posts on that topic in the forum.
  6. It does take a lot of practice. And I think some never really become comfortable sparring.
  7. Never hurts to have a good laugh though does it. The location names are from Rocky and Bulwinkle.
  8. http://www.lewrockwell.com/wallace/wallace42.html This is a hoot! Watch out who you pick on.
  9. The belief in weapons developing a spirit also extends to other types of weapons and other cultures as well.
  10. It all depends on how you train.
  11. In some schools it is.
  12. Most begin learning how to teach under the supervison of someone with experience teaching.
  13. Someone was practicing round house kicks one time in the bathroom at work and got a foot stuck in the towel roller. Just be careful when you practice in the bathroom and make sure you have sufficient room for what you are doing.
  14. I have hesitated about giving my opinion here but here goes. I am severely hypoglycemic. Feed me sugar all day and my blood sugar will not rise out of an accepted range. But too much activity or an inadequate carb intake and I can crash like you wouldn't believe. I learned over time through trial and error how far I could push my physical activity taking into account what kind of caloric or carb intake I had before the activity. I did a lot of glucose testing and kept fairly detailed records. I think everyone has different foods their system metabolizes and uses more effectively than others. It may take a trial and error process to find them. My opinion is to just have at it consider it a learning process and accept that crashes may happen and plan ahead of time on how to deal with them. And it helps to let sensei know ahead of time what will be going on.
  15. Take a look around various areas of the forum. In health and fitness there is a thread full of stretching links. And over time a lot of questions have been asked about how to improve kicking techniques.
  16. This topic has strayed too far from the purpose of this area of the forum.
  17. Everyone please remember to respect one another. Everyone at KarateForums has the same right to express an opinion; when done respectfully; regardless of their age.
  18. Karate_women I am sure your classmates were happy you washed the belt your cat baptized. And I am equally sure that your sensei approved.
  19. I must say I have been playing on battlenet a lot this past week. My Diablo characters are barbarians.
  20. I have heard of dogs eating trees and cats eating shamrock plants but that is the first time I have heard of a cat eating a bonsai.
  21. Welcome to the forum. For many the first place they try to train is not the right one.
  22. In schools were strikes to the head are forbidden during sparring you have to learn mentally to treat a handpad in front of your face as though it was an actual strike. You have to learn to include the threat in your mindset wether contact was made or not.
  23. Some pruning has taken place on this thread. Please remember to keep the discussion friendly and civil and to refrain from personal attacks.
  24. There is biofeedback training done in terms of chronic pain relief. And I think very high level quads learn to move computer cursors with eye movement.
  25. It sometimes takes a while to get a response to a newly posted thread because not everyone checks in every day. A while back there was some discussion here about blood glucose levels while training. It may take a bit of time before those who were interested in that topic check in.
