  21. The one thing I am surprised no one has mentioned is the connective tissues between the ribs. It is possible to injure those sparring, or in a wide variety of activities. And it can be hard to tell if it is connective tissues or ribs that have been damaged. In either case the most definitive diagnosis can had only after an x-ray. And damaged interstitial tissues can take about as long as a broken rib to heal.
