For the record I have trained in Goju Ryu, and Tang Soo Do, so I am making an informed judgement. (I'll ignore the implication). Also, somebody referring to 95% of TKD schools would have to have SEEN a great many of them!

When people dismiss TKD as "simply" a kicking art it shows how ignorant they are. They dont know enough about it to make an informed opinion. I would never criticize BJJ from what I see on TV, I would first do research and maybe take a few classes. Sure WTF focuses on kicks, but that is by no means a weakness. You mean to tell me you'd make short work of a 3rd degree black belt in WTF TKD? Also ITF focuses on punches, kicks, grapples, and weapons. It is just as much a martial art as anything else! It burns me up that nobody dismisses Judo, Boxing, Wushu, or Muay Thai for being a sport like they do TKD. It says alot about someone when they use you to make themselves look better. By using TKD as a measuring stick, these others are inadventendly reinforcing our signifigance as one of the most effective and widely practiced martial arts.

Yeah he's the champ, yeah he beat Klitchsco and Tyson. But take a closer look. He was definitely losing the fight even though he won because he severely damaged Klitchsco's eye. And he beat Tyson who has never really been the same since Cus D Amato died, not to mention Tyson giving up a weight, height, and reach advantage. But think how long it took him to finally agree to fight Klitchsco, and now he's "retiring" because he doesn't want to fight him again. BE A MAN, you're a professional fighter, just because someone "might" be able to beat you it doesn't mean you back down, thats what the sport is about. Lewis had made a career of beating smaller fighters, and the few equally sized fighters he's faced have been non contenders. A few years ago Lewis was so afraid of Riddick Bowe he threw his WBC Championship in the trash. The fighting was cool, but they could have done without the quasi philsophical, psuedo intellectual conversations and made the dialouge more interesting

Renketsu is right about the age thing. While it is important to be at least a 1st dan before teaching, youre age is also a factor that affects your teaching. I am 24 and only an assistant instructor but I have noticed that older students have a tendency to give me doubtful looks, or question me outright, when in fact I am teaching the same techniques as the Chief Instructor.

You worked hard for your belt, dont take it off for anyone no matter what. Although you should humbly accept learning the basic white belt material (katas, blocks, etc.) Now if an instructor asks you to wear a white belt then he doesn't have enough respect for you, your style or the work you put in to attain that rank, you should then go to another school.

I heard something like it takes 17lbs of (direct) force to break someone's nose. And nunchucks create 90 lbs. If I hadn't been practicing with padded chucks I'd have very few unbroken bones.

I think its possible, but you have to be extremely through and disciplined in your training, more so than if someone was teaching you techniques that are already refined. Once again it is possible given the right dedication and athletic ability, but dont be the guy who watches a Kung Fu flick 30 times and all the sudden thinks he can fight.

Since you're so smart..... there are different styles of TKD other than just Olympic, that are not "sports". ALSO there is a style of Kung Fu called WUSHU ever heard of it? Of course you have it's China's national sport.
