uhh i would be pretty skeptical, if your doing kung fu, than you should know how to use its applications in sparring, if they start using kickboxing than thats not right really, unless you do san shou than maybe but other than that they should use the kung fu applications in sparring -
my kung fu is true kung fu, unaltered from chinese communism, from Grandmaster liu, it emphasizes to use your tendons, and keep everything else relaxed, only muscle movement is to execute actions. They told me not to do pushups or too many situps, or powerlifting actions because the muscles are useless in ma and just doing kung fu will give me nice muscles, so my advice to you is just do karate alot in stead of powerlifting, maybe even some bag work and you'll acheive long muscles, not short ones without flexibility, but thats up to you, long muscles are more compatible to some karate and such though

Grasshopper kung fu?
Breakdancer replied to Breakdancer's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
grasshopper kung fu, i think is where you stay low to the ground like almost squating wihtout your hands touching the ground, and when you attack you jump up and usually kick, and the kicks are usually double kicks... i dont kno its kinda fun actually except or the 120 dollar fee -
I practice 7star praying mantis(school teaches 6harmony and 8step also), and to gain power or practice, I do the twist punches and normal horse stance punches(forgot the chinese terms),side kicks heel kicks and mantis grabs/blocks. IF you practice praying mantis, what style and what do you do to practice, or gain more power?

Grasshopper kung fu?
Breakdancer replied to Breakdancer's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
well i'm screwed, i talked to other schools and they said my instructor is a fake, they said that grasshopper kungfu doesn't exist and i went to one other kung fu school and the teacher said that my instructor was his student and that my instructor must have been lying. i'm soo screwed that guy made me sign a 6 month contract for 120 a month and the class times are only 2 days a week for 30 minutes. I'm going to go now and pound my head against the wall -
No i still dont think tyson wont stand a chance, he doesn't know how to grab kicks and esspecially lets say a thai boxer throws a round house to the knees, also mike tyson all punches, how the hell is he suppose to fight when hes getting his * kicked literally, he woudn't gain enough distance to land a punch.

What's your street experience?
Breakdancer replied to Kirves's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Only fights i've been in were against my friends or brothers -
if you wanna be a great fighter do thai boxing, mike tyson wouldn't stand a chance against a moderate muay thai fighter, and thai boxing uses western style boxing punches so it would be like boxing but with the very powerful kicks

alot considering you would have to teach them not to use flips and 540s in a fight -
hi all i was wondering if grass hopper kung fu exists, because my new instructor said that Chi li xiang, the style i'm learning is also known as grasshopper kung fu originated from a imperial guard kung fu. I'm getting the feeling my school is fake. He also made me sign a 6 month contract for 120 dollars a month..... what do you guys think?

Hey all i was just wondering how much knowledge can be attained in kung fu books. because in the city i am in, The kung fu school teaches about 5 1/2 hours a week, but its 4 or 3 kung fu styles all at once. So I want to know if kung fu books that teach kung fu will be any help on further instruction when i'm not in the school. So does anyone know if kung fu books help any? And my second question, does anyone know if chen style tai chi chaun is any good for fighting?
-
Has anyone heard ofa style of kungfu called Chi Li Xiang, theres a school in my city that teaches it, the instructor said that he learned it from a ancient buddist monk in the himalayans and that Its one of the first martial arts. It sounds good but some people said the instructor is just a fake and only in martial arts for money.
-
HEy how much do you guys think martial arts instruction should cost?
-
Hey all i was just wondering why is it that almost all the San soo schools i find always have a caucasian guy running the dojo. No offense to caucasians but usually most good traditional kung fu schools are ran by people from china. And the some of the white guys i see running the school dont have any of the traditions a martial arts school should have.
