Chuck Norris - Which art?
TKD Chosen One replied to DokterVet's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
My instructor was one of Chuck's instructors for Chucks KDOOA program, I think he changed the name to KickStart. Anyways it's really interesting because Chuck taught his Chun Kuk Do style (which integrates many styles) at this program and now my instructor teaches tae kwon do and he puts in some of the stuff chuck taught him as well as his own stuff. It's pretty neat to see how styles can evolve with time. I think it helps to make styles well rounded. -
Hmmm........i came out to be saruman. I'm a bit surprised, but i guess i do look out for myself before anything or anyone else.

How much should instruction cost?
TKD Chosen One replied to Breakdancer's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I pay around $40 a month for 3 classes a week. My master is going to start advanced classes 2 days a week, and he said i can still come to all 5 classes for the same price. Sometime you get lucky and find an great instructor who's just starting out and doesn't charge a lot. -
Tae Kwon-Do Ranks
TKD Chosen One replied to NicciKickx_TKD's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
My belt structure is as follows: White, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Red tip, Red/Black, Black. Im really upset there's no camo-belt.........I would do anything for one..........oh to be THAT cool. I asked my instructor after class when i would be able to test for my camo belt and he burst out laughing and told me to go home. -
c'mon, it was a joke, even she knew that. chill.

close or actual encounters
TKD Chosen One replied to TKD Chosen One's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah I read kickchicks story. Monkeygirl, I guess that was his lucky day and he didnt have to feel your wrath huh? hehe Hey if it's not personal, why'd you quit? -
Just wondering if anyone wanted to share any encounters they might have experienced.........muggings, or fights. How did it start and how did it end? I myself have had many encounters but never an actual fight.....i guess i look mean or something. But if there's one thing i cant stand is when people talk trash.....i get so annoyed, sometimes it takes a lot for me to control myself even if they're not talking to me. Anyways, i was just curious. Peace.

Things NOT to say to your instructor...
TKD Chosen One replied to Valithor's topic in Instructors and School Owners
"No, I'm fine, let me see you do it." If asked to go in front of the class to help the master demonstrate a move: look at the class, smirk, point and say "this guy?" I actually said this in class "what a gay block, i feel weird now". When the instructor tries to move your arm in the right position, keep moving it just out of his reach.......i did this to his daughter who sometimes assists him. When the instructor's daughter passes by let out a soft "mmmh" or "oooh". -

I don't know guys....everybody keeps trashing tae kwon do but I'm pretty sure I could pair up well against you karate or MTs. The tae kwon do i study is WTF but the instructor has added some Chun Kuk Do, which has some Tang Soo Do and Jujitsu mixed in, which makes this TKD a bit stronger than the normal wood breaking type. I know this wasnt on topic but i felt it was necessary because no-one's stepped up for TKD. -
baseball bats in fights
TKD Chosen One replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I used a very effective method to deal with a guy holding a bat. When I was around thirteen, a friend and i were at a neighborhood park bored out of our minds. There was a high school baseball team from the private school across the street practising at the park. They weren't very good so my friend and i started telling them they swung like little girls and that our grandma's could outplay them...that we were going to go wake them up from their nap so they could show their sorry coach how to play. We did this throughout their entire practise and then the coach called them into a huddle told them something and then he started walking back to the school.......all of a sudden the whole team started charging me and my friend with bats a balls in their hands. We stood there for a few seconds shocked and then started hauling...i swear i've never run so fast in my whole life!!! We ran into the neighborhood jumping fences and somehow we managed to lose them. Moral of the story: haul butt and jump a few fences. -

common mistakes in sparring
TKD Chosen One replied to CTpizzaboy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We're about to start sparring at my school, and im kinda nervous....mostly everyone in there is a beginner and younger than me, so the other two possibilities for a sparring partner are my instructor or his red/black belt daughter, whom i KNOW can kick my butt. I'm sure I'll be making many mistakes, but a lot of the warnings and suggestions here have at least made me aware of some mistakes to look out for. -
Hi everybody thanks for making me feel welcomed....im sure i'll learn a lot from everyone.

I'm a pretty passive guy, but sometimes enough is enough. The thing i hate most is to hear people talk mess. I play basketball a lot aside from doing tae kwon do, and believe me i hear more trash talking in one day than i used to in a year. Many people just like to fill their own sails to make themselves feel better...usually it's to make up for something they're lacking. Usually i just let them talk and let them run out of steam or shut them up by shutting them down defesively or offensively (gamewise). But sometimes for whatever reason, something clicks inside of me and i throw the ball at the wall or close to the person's head and just start walking towards them and tell them to shut the up...usually they will. I've found that if you make someone feel as if you're in control and you own your surroundings and that they're trespassing or violating your space, you'll usually have the upper-hand and really make them think that they dont have as good of a chance to take you on as they first thought.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and to my art. I just started TKD in June and after only about three weeks I tested to get my next belt. I am now an orange belt!!!! Anyways, I really like it........I'm the oldest and the tallest in the class and sometimes the master picks me out and puts me on the spot. For example most of the other students started around the same time, but since i enrolled recently i didnt know some of the stuff everyone else did, so i was still a new guy and wasnt doing a high block right so the next thing i know the master runs at me and jumps up (he's only about 5 ft.) and tries to chop me on the head, instinctively (and luckily) i blocked it....anyways, he's been picking on me eversince, and always singling me out.....but i dont really mind the extra attention. Actually my original question was going to take up less space than i just did, but oh well. I was going to ask about stretching......im not very flexible yet and i was wondering if anyone could tell me some good streches that will help me, the only thing the master will tell me is "you need to stretch at home". Any thoughts will be appreciated.
