That is a complete and total myth. I don't know why people keep bringing that up. You would have to replace the entire internal reciever with a reciever from a real gun, as well as replacing the barrel, because a 6mm brass barrel will not stand up to the pressures from real bullets, not even a .22 caliber. They may be referring to regular air guns. Airsoft guns do not have an "air chamber," unless you're talking about the cylinder, but the piston at the end of the cylinder is made of abs plastic and would definately not stand up to a .22 caliber round. Further, the trigger system is COMPLETELY different from anything you would find on a real gun. You would get better results by putting the bullet in a small piece of drain pipe and heating it with a blowtorch until it went off. Having said that, in Hong Kong the style of play is very much geared towards high-powered guns. You can upgrade an airsoft gun to be fairly hazardous, but that usually costs well over a thousand dollars.

So the most powerful boxer always wins because he is more powerful? This must be why Tyson never lost... oh wait, he did to someone with a more effective strategy. Well, boxing isn't all about the knockout. The more common way to win is points, which suggests that better technique would be better in boxing.

BJJ and Multiple Opponents
Warp Spider replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Well, yes, I'll agree that MMA does tend to have grapplers winning, but I don't believe that MMA is a fair comparison to actual fighting. Of course, there are those that disagree and there's been numerous threads on that topic in the past. -
Ever had to use your MA in a real sreet fight

Well, I think the main advocates of being seriously armed here are JerryLove (with multiple knives) and myself, (submachineguns and grenades) and although I don't believe I've met JerryLove in person, I don't think that either of us is what could be considered a kid. Further, I think that your view of self-defense is very limited. Please remember that there are places in the world where bullets are cheaper than food and you can be quite literally shot for the clothes off your back. That's one view, but not all martial artists train for self-defense, and I think it's closed-minded to think that way. To my recollection, many martial arts were originally developed for war, so I would question that they are intended for self-defense. -
Ninjutsu vs. Jujutsu
Warp Spider replied to BlackRose's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
No offense, but the Navy Seals get their butts kicked in almost every military simulation they participate in. Having said that, I could see tree climbing and whatnot being useful to a ninja but I don't know how handy jumping out of trees would be. -

Ninjutsu vs. Jujutsu
Warp Spider replied to BlackRose's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
No offense, but ninjas mostly aren't really like in the movies, jumping from tree to tree and whatnot. They usually snuck in by the traditional routes, through the window, cellar, whatever. -
Well, of course you'd know that a grenade was dangerous, but in that instance you'd want to keep it concealed until necessary. Claiming it wasn't dangerous is only good until you brandish it as a weapon, but it was suggested for the cane sword because you can't really conceal a cane easily.

Unfortunately, I don't have names for you, because I didn't really pay that much attention. One that I remember was in one the "King of the Cage" matches. A BJJ practicioner went for a double leg and instead caught a MT kick to the head, which knocked him out. -
Actually, imploding a building generally involves boring holes in all the main supports, then putting explosive into those holes. You can use a cup or something specially shaped to control the direction of the expanded gasses and shrapnel, but it's still not really all that precise. A zig-zag cut would be kind of pointless though.. it would be too messy for you to notice the zig-zag anyway.

Gangster rap is making a comeback

Hah, I saw this kid once walking like a thug with a huge fro and a jersey about 5 sizes too big that said something like "wu-tang" on it. We leaned out the window of the car and shouted "Yo, what up dog?" It was grand! -
Don't buy an airsoft gun on eBay! The guns there are usually very low quality. If you live in a country where airsoft guns are legal, https://www.redwolfairsoft.com is very inexpensive and has a variety of products from different manufacturers. Their customer service is kind of lousy though... In some countries, airsoft guns are "sort of" legal - technically they're a BB gun, so you're allowed to have them, but that doesn't mean the police won't confiscate it from you anyway because of the resemblance. In those countries you can usually get them imported under the auspices of a movie prop - but sometimes you need a special license to do so. And like Treebranch said - avoid buying guns made in Taiwan. As you may know, there is no copyright law in Taiwan and they make a lot of cheap knockoffs there. Ideally you should get a gun made in either Japan, or Hong Kong. Alternatively, if you live in the US or Canada, Daisy and Crossman make some kind of low quality spring pistols for airsoft. They're not that good of quality, but they're only about $15 US from what I've heard. EDIT: I almost forgot: if you're using a real gun with simunitions or an airsoft gun, always wear eye protection and a mouthguard. Airsoft guns aren't that powerful but can definately take out an eye, especially at close ranges. In fact, I'd almost recommend getting one of the crappy crossman or daisy airsoft guns. They really aren't meant to be used a close range, and a good one can put a BB through a cheek and into your mouth, or through a lip and still have enough energy to chip a tooth.

Does that mean that you should train your strength so that you can retain your strength for longer when it begins to fade, or that your strength will be fleeting and is not as worthwhile an investment, and thus tactics/technique should be practiced?

BJJ and Multiple Opponents
Warp Spider replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
That dosent hold much weight and here is why. Although most Have cross trained in BJJ many do so so they can "beat it". Wrestlers cross train so they can avoid submissions and GNP, Strikers cross train so they can avoid takedown and strike. BJJ didint have to cross train to beat karate, boxing etc. in order to beat it. Well, my point is: BJJ practicioners get beaten all the time. Sometimes they practice other arts as well and sometimes they don't, but Venezolanos comment that other arts can't even deal with a single attacker in the ring is just plain asinine. Other arts can and have beaten BJJ, even people who haven't practiced grappling arts at all have beaten grapplers, so it's not fair to imply that somehow BJJ is the absolute ultimate fighting art. -
In fact, even if you could move your leg at velocity greater than that of light, you still would cast some shadow, though it would become increasingly distorted as your leg approached the speed of light and quite bizarre indeed were you to exceed it. At relativistic leg velocities the shadow also would not be as dark, which might make it unnoticeable. Like it matters, though, swinging a 25 pound leg at anywhere near the speed of light would create a shockwave in the air so intense it would rupture the internal organs of you, your target, and anyone standing nearby even if you missed. It would also likely shatter all the windows and if you were to hit you would likely send the remains of your target out of orbit. Suffice it to say, if anyone can kick anywhere near fast enough that it doesn't cast a shadow, I would be interested to learn under your instructor. EDIT: On second thought, your target would not break orbit because they would be vapourized due to the extreme heat generated by the friction of travelling at over 25 thousand miles per second. (assuming a fairly large target) The highly ionized plasma that would be left of the target may disperse before leaving the atmosphere, but I couldn't really say for sure.

They're neat, but if it's for training disarms make sure you get a gas one or (if you're thrifty) a spring powered one. The electric blowback pistols and automatic electric guns have a slight delay between the trigger pull and the actual firing.
-
If it is for self-defense, you can get rifles and shotguns built into canes, which might work better. You can also get slightly-larger-than-usual pens or crosses (the religous kind, not the bun) that fire pistol rounds. If you want to be all inconspicuous about it. If you just want to frighten a person who confronts you, however, grenades are great. Pull the pin (make sure you hold down the lever!) and noone will dare come close! The grenade's fuse is not ignited until the lever is released (the pin just holds the lever down) so after you've scared them away you can put the pin back and the grenade won't go off. One final note: Do not throw a grenade when there are dogs around. They will fetch it and bring it back to you! It sounds dumb, but it's happened.

BJJ and Multiple Opponents
Warp Spider replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Well, in "the ring" usually both people have practiced BJJ at least some. Would it then be fair to say that half the time a BJJ practitioner goes into the ring he/she loses? That argument is no more valid than saying Karate is no good because in a karate-only tournament most of the guys end up losing. I hate to seem skeptical, but to my knowledge the defense in BJJ relies on manipulation of the other persons body, to remove their ability to fight back. How would one go about doing this to multiple attackers? -
Food for thought on "real" Ki/Chi/prana
Warp Spider replied to Stold's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hey, I can throw a ball of fire! It's kind of stupid though, it doesn't even do any apparent harm, just kind of bounces off. I can shoot a lightning bolt too (albeit a small one) if I scuff my feet on the carpet long enough. -
That is true, but frustrating your opponent is a good way to push them into making a mistake.

Impossible to say with the information provided. I will say, however, that I don't put a lot of faith in Wing Chun. But that's just me. The physical conditioning in MT would probrably count for alot, so I'd lean that way. However, if you're talking strictly technique, barring any differences in physical conditioning, I couldn't say with any certainty.
