In my opinion, I think when one trains at home, one should train in the shoes one will most likely be wearing all the time. Better yet, one should train in all different types of shoes, because you never know when you might have to defend yourself.

Hmm a local park might not be a bad idea.

I've been gone for so long, I just saw this message. Thank you everyone for your kind words. -
I'm from NJ and I guess martial arts is considered a gym. Or perhaps even a youth sports if you do it outside. I can find nothing under what Murphy rules of what this considers.
-
Yes! Thank you!

Hey all, I'm looking for a gi that has air holes in the arm pit area. I've seen it before online, but I cannot remember the name brand, and I didn't bookmark the site. Would anyone on here happen to know the brand?
-
NJ which ironically is the worse place to start a business.
-
Thank you. Yeah, if anything I'd purchase the dojo im already at. I already have some ideas.

Hi all, Question to anyone that has their own school. Did you already have money available to open your own place. Or did you purchase from your own instructor and or franchising the name? Second I've been doing a bunch of research and is it easy to get an SBA loan?

Does anyone run a Little Kickers type program?
The Pred replied to DWx's topic in Instructors and School Owners
No little kicker program. When I teach little kids, I teach 5-6 very basic moves, then have them either hit pads or myself. -
While I don't agree with what some people say in that Martial at is just a hobby. But surely running a retail store must count?

If There's No Other Instructors, What then!?!?
The Pred replied to sensei8's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Yes, if there is only one instructor then Sensei is fine. (Then again if the only instructor is also the owner as you said, he/she can call themselves anything they want). But yes, once that instructor trains and has other instructors then that person automatically becomes a CI. -
Will you be apart of this board?

Be Careful, My Friend, Very Careful...
The Pred replied to sensei8's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Thanks, Brian!! For Kancho and me, it simply means... Temporalis Auctoritate...Temporary Authority. Until the By-Laws have been amended, and then approved by a unanimous vote, we've full authority. Plus, we've appealed the vote, even though it appears to be a lock on us turning in the store keys when all is said and done. Transitions of this magnitude can take a minute or two to reach its final conclusion. In time, should we both be thrown out on our backsides, and while we'll still be members, in good standings, with the SKKA, we'll have no say so as to the daily operations of the SKKA. However, I'm the highest ranking member across the board, and that carries some hefty perks that can't be removed and/or denied and/or refused; FOR LIFE clauses!! So you're not a majority owner of the SKKA? -

Oh so sorry to hear. -
Agreed

For the old structure was the time in rank for kids and adults different pre black belt?
-
We are talking about screening adult students right? Or do you do a background check on the kid who started when they were 5 and is now 16?
-
Let's assume that both a and b aren't the CI but an instructor under them. If that's the case than perhaps the CI should have nipped it in the bud before they became full instructor.

When do you turn over full knowledge?

Does the Menkyo Kaiden still exist within your organization? -
Happy birthday!

You know I always thought head contact was no big deal. (I think light is okay). but I'm not planning on being a professional fighter anytime soon. So why risk it.
-
I don't think its a dumb question,in fact I thought about that too. I guess it's because most people can't kick high.

Very interesting everyone. And yes as Wastelander said I can see how wearing head gear my increase concussions.
