  1. So I think most here would say that rank should be earned not given. However, does anyone go to a school or been to a school where one has to earn the white belt? I mean after all that is a rank.
  2. I could be wrong but I doubt an 11 year old would be teaching adults. If anything he or she would most likely be helping out with little kids with an adult on the floor.
  3. Awesome job !
  4. Agreed ^ new school, new start. It will be up to the CI to determine what rank you deserve.
  5. So it seems like we are all in agreement with each other !
  6. So sorry to hear, but 50 years in the Martial arts is a long time. I'm currently in my 27th. Hope everything works out and perhaps you can return one day.
  7. Solid point, yeah paying for a service does make thing more complicated. Thankfully from what I've seen majority of students aren't like that.
  8. Now often times in business, it is said the customer is always right. Does anyone believes this to be true in the world of Martial arts?
  9. I would say if you charge for testing (some schools don't) and they are in financial trouble, then perhaps they shouldn't be allowed to test. Furthermore, perhaps tell them they can only come once a week.
  10. This can be a very difficult situation. But I would make sure they pay something, even if its 5.00 once a week. Or perhaps you can offer to reduce the bill if they bring in a new person to sign up.
  11. Never heard of it, what does it entail?
  12. Very true ! Martial Arts can form great relationships !
  13. Not at all, I like to describe kata as self-defense drills for out on the street.
  14. Have you had any students interested in participating in MMA events to show how karate can be more than a sports based art,
  15. Does the Shindokan hombu offer other arts or does any dojo's associated with the hombu offer different arts?
  16. Adults yes, kids not so much.
  17. Nice analogy. Ultimately it depends what you want. If you want to actively grow your student base, you would benefit from a website. People don't look through the Yellow Pages anymore to find a school, they Google it. A web presence is your first chance to make a good impression on a potential student and unfortunately if people can find no trace of you online, you don't really look legit. Even if its just a landing page with your contact details on and directions, it is better than nothing. But if you are happy with your current student base and growth, maybe there's no need for one. Good point about a landing page. I would even suggest a class schedule on there. I mean you don't need to have a bio of every instructor.
  18. So schools that are apart of the SKKA are not allowed to make a website? I mean from you have told us, your student body between all schools is a good size. Therefore, I guess a website doesn't make a difference.
  19. Very interesting, hope your new organization works out.
  20. Great point !
  21. Sorry to hear that. You know if I were you I would just teach independent. What rank are you if you don't mind me asking?
  22. Now I remember you saying the SKKA is a partnership now. Could Iwao if he wanted to buy other members out? If so would that have an effect on anything?
