Gloves in MMA
The Pred replied to The Pred's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Watching old UFC can be pretty awesome. -
Thanks for the feed back, just was wondering what some responses would be. With that being said, since you wouldn't make it harder, would you go back to less belts? I.e. White, Green, Brown Black.
-
This is for people who have a martial arts dojo and or run one. If you came into a lot of money, and student tuition wasn't no longer a factor for you to live on. Would you make your classes ten times harder?

Finishing a black belt

Sometimes my dojo will let someone with their rank keep their rank from there other school. Or we will look at them and determine what rank they should be at if they have prior dojo experience. Personally I don't like (I understand the business reason for it.) I don't like it since most people who transfer over never really stay. But that's just my opinion. -
I think it depends how fast one can throw that initial first punch. If your jab isn't fast enough to hit the nose, and the opponent will duck so that your hand makes contact with the forehead, then by all means go for the palm heel strike. However, an improper palm heel strike can do more damage in my opinion than a bad punch.

Money runs everything -
I was just wondering if anyone could answerer this. In MMA sports or any full contact martial arts, people are required to wear gloves, but don't have to wear feet guards. Furthermore, If you think about it, if no one wore gloves, there would probably be less head concussions since less shots would be take to the head (unless you can get some elbows in).

Awesome, did your dojo offer different type of classes I.e. A weapons class or a weapons class at a different time. Then what the hombu was having it?
-
Best of luck ! Will you post a video of your fight?
-
If you don't mind me asking if your dojo was 6 miles away from the Hombu, wouldn't people just go to that one instead. I mean since it's so close. I mean no disrespect

Loyalty to one's instructor. What does it look like?
The Pred replied to IcemanSK's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think it can be whatever you make of it. Giving back by teaching (though not every should teach) or if not by teaching, showing your face as much as possible. -
Hmmm that's good question, I don't have my own dojo, so no need to worry. Here's a question, when does one stop training under their own instructor. When your soke founded the style, did he still go and train under his instructor

16 year old Head Instructor
The Pred replied to Judodad_karateson's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Solid point plus Kanō Jigorō was 22 when he founded Judo. -
Two training areas a large one and a smaller room. The larger area has wrestling mats that we have the students train on. Plus the main area has carpet as that makes it easier for people to perform kata. Mirror along the walls so students can see their techniques. Also in the main training area are wavemasters, some other heavybags, plus a boxing ring. In the other room is where we keep the handshields, plus it also has mats.

Have you though about doing perhaps doing one on one private lessons for instructors at the Hombu
-
If I understand your question...Kancho is In-House at the Hombu, while I'm only In-House at the Hombu once per quarter, Annual Testing Cycle, or whenever it's necessary. Greg lives where the Hombu is, and I now live in Houston, TX, and before TX, I lived in Owasso, OK; it's been that way for close to 20 years. Yet, my less In-House ratio has been like that since Dai-Soke passed away in 2010. Before his passing, I was flying back and forth quite a lot; at Dai-Soke's discretion, even when I was elected to Kaicho. Yes, that did answer my question. Now at your own dojo (if you're still running one), do you have a good amount of instructors to run your dojo classes for you?
-
I don't think you're time is necessarily done. How does time at the Hombu get split between yourself and the Kancho?

Thanks everyone for the replies !

Brain is right! However, Soke, being the founder, is awarded to only ONE person, alas, the founder. In Shindokan, Saitou Sensei was the founder, hence he was Soke. Then, Takahashi Sensei was awarded the Dai-Soke, hence the Second Headmaster, when Soke retired; Soke selected Takahashi Sensei to become the Dai-Soke...it wasn't up to a vote!! Then, Iwao Takahashi, Takahashi Sensei's son, was selected to become the San Dai-Soke by the Dai-Soke, his father. Notice, there was first the Soke, then the Dai-Soke, then the San Dai-Soke, this was to differ one Soke TYPE from another. Having said that, we've no Soke types in Shindokan anymore; that titles been, well, retired permanently!! A 5th Dan can be a Soke type because the Soke type is the primary exclusive representative of the governing body. In Shindokan, the Soke type WAS THE OWNER of the Hombu/SKKA; this became a problem in recent years passed, and it's not a problem anymore. Who can represent the governing body and the student body best?? That's an important question; a question that shouldn't be taken lightly. So, yes, a 18 year old CAN be a Soke type as determined by the governing body hierarchy; it's highly unlikely, but possible. Can that Soke type be a Judan? Per that governing body, and its By-Laws, it would surely be true...per the By-Laws. Why our Soke wrote the By-Laws to read just that way, baffles me, but it was his choice to write it the way he wrote it, and I doubt that he even considered the possibility that "a 18 year old son of his" could become the next Soke type. Very insightful, what was San Dai soke rank before he go it. He was Hachidan, yet I was Senior to him via tenure, at the time of his appointment. Interesting, do you find the skipping of ranks worse then a person earning a high rank at a young age, due to them starting martial arts at a young age.

So from what I understand, if I were to found my own recognized Martial Art I would be the Soke. Now from what I read, if I had a son, and I died, my son would become Soke of the school. So if I died, and my son was 18, and he becomes Soke does he become a 10th dan? What gives it the right of an automatic promotion? Since he did not found the art, but is merely an inheritor.

Have you been offered rank with no test?
The Pred replied to IcemanSK's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Didn't you force them to test you for your Kudan. Since you forced them, did they change the by-laws so that all future Kudan's promotions require a testing. -
, Now I remember you saying your Soke founded the art you study in his 30s. Did he promote himself from his current rank to Judan. Or did he slowly go up in rank. But if he did become a judan at 30ish, why would the by-laws be ex amount of age for say a rokudan. Please, I mean no disrespect. No disrespect taken!! We're speaking about 2 separate Tenure's; rank Tenure isn't age Tenure. In Shindokan, we do not place any Tenure with age; only with rank Tenure. As to the bold type above... http://www.karateforums.com/question-for-sensei8-vt48223.html I refer you to the bottom of page #1, 2nd paragraph of said thread. Yes now I remember ! Cool! I've edited my latest post above to give a more sound answer, and not so generally general. I just saw the edit, now after Hachidan does tenure rank not matter. Espically if one becomes the Kaicho like you were/are and they say you have to be a Kudan.
