Kyokushin Shodan grading!
The Pred replied to Hawkmoon's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
One of my old instructors used to have the kids bring blindfolds for kata class at times. Even the most simple ones become difficult as people end up on the other side of the room, lol. -
Thank youm CDraper, for your post; very solid!! As a student, do you feel that your MA plate is way too full, and does that add to the stress levels of trying to reach and meet expectations all of the time?? Do you feel that you never satisfy your instructor?? We tell students if they ever feel overwhelmed don't quit, just come to less classes, until they're ready to do more.

If the person was smart, he would have never said he wants to pad his resume. Instead he would have just asked you for some extra help. If he did this, you wouldn't be questioning yourself whether or not if you should teach him. -

That's great, George St. Piere one of the best UFC fighters of all time has a traditonal Martial arts background. Just remind him that some moves are illegal in MMA that you might teach him -

Ouch! And I'm NO "scam artist teaching fly-by-night Rex Kwon Do." I don't have a website/facebook, our Hombu doesn't have a website, and neither of us truly want a website, and my reasons as to why can be found somewhere here at KF!! Btw, I'm quite finished defending our/my reasons for not having/wanting a website!! A WEBSITE MEANS NOTHING...IMHO!! Why? Proof is ON THE FLOOR, and not in some website! I've known and seen so many schools of the MA that have running water and power and real MA training, but their ineffective across the board. I take offense to being lumped as a fake, and this is what I'm being told that that I am. If I am, then so is our Soke, Dai-Soke, student body, and Shindokan!! I've more important things to worry about than creating and managing a website, like, teach Shindokan, and administrate the SKKA!! I respect those who do have a website, but I'm/we're lampooned and lambasted mercilessly because I/We don't have a website!! Does any dojo that's apart of the SKKA have their own website? I can't speak intelligently about this because I've no idea!! That type of information isn't recorded at the SKKA because things like that aren't managed by the SKKA; dojos are independently owned, and separate and away from the SKKA when it comes to how they choice to manage and operate and administer their own dojo!! In short, I'm unaware of the goings on at their schools in this regard. I can tell you without any ambiguity that I've never had a website of my own, and the Hombu has never had a website either; that's never been the practice of our Soke, even when websites first became the rage of the page. I simply just can't believe that I'm/We're STILL having to defend our stand concerning this matter...STILL!! Being judged on the sole basis of whether I've/We've had or have a website is wrong and unfair!! Imho, this seems to borders on harassment!! Here's a very bad example, and it's a hypothetical example...Maybe, MA Forums, like KF, should ONLY allow members to join based on whether that prospective member has a website for their dojo and/or Hombu and/or throughout their governing bodies network...No website, you're not welcomed, therefore not allowed to join our community. Proof is on the floor....now and tomorrow and until the end of time!! Solid point, a website is not necessary, however, do you guys do demo shows or how often do students bring in new people? -

Can be frustrating, but three years in the martial arts is just a drop in the bucket. As far as knowing if you're practicing a technique right. If you're not sure, don't practice it, since you may be practicing wrong. Practice what you do know. Once the instructor says you're doing the technique right, then practice it at home.

How do you advertise your school?
The Pred replied to Luther unleashed's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Like an introduction only? As a way to filter them into the school? If that's what your saying it's genius. I have seen one other program do this that teaches chun kuk do in the Phoenix area. Smart! Although I have to wonder what's more beneficial. Is it to do it that way, or to simply make that recreation center a second location? Very interesting. Yup -

The Pred replied to Luther unleashed's topic in Instructors and School Owners
You've found a school(s) that allow you to pass out fliers?? That's a goldmine of potentiality!! Schools usually forbid that for many reasons, usually student safety; you being on school property being at the top of that list. Also, schools doesn't promote commercial enterprises, and they're not in the business of allowing any advertising. Also, school is private property, but across the street isn't, but either way, without permission of the school, police will be called quickly. If you rent the gym after school, the school will allow the passing out of fliers, and the school will even pass them out DURING SCHOOL, plus make announcements on the PA system, and even mention MA training in their newsletters. Yes, we have some teachers whose kids go to the dojo, so it goes home in kids folders. -

The Pred replied to Luther unleashed's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Great topic, From Sept-July we do a rec program for kids ages 4-12, its once a week for 30.00 for eight weeks. They get a free uniform and everything. Most kids usually sign up after. We advertise the rec programs with fliers passed out at local schools. -
I agree 3:45 is a tad lad considering many people would like to relax for the rest of the afternoon. That is partly why our classes run from 8:30 - 10:30 in the morning. So people can do other things for the rest of the day especially if they have other sporting commitments. Personally I would want to close at 245 or even 145.
-
Yeah saturday open from 11-345. Then when we run our beginner recreation program 10-345. I think 345, is late to stay open on a saturday.
-
When I was younger I hated doing kata (still not my favorite thing to do) but now I realize the importance of it. However, it's a great workout, plus there are so many self-defense moves you can get out of it.
-
Awesome, trying to figure out ways to change our saturday class schedule
-
Hey everyone, people that own their own dojo and or been at their current one for a while. How often (or if you did) did your dojo class schedule change throughout the years? Once a year, once every few years, etc.

Thanks, The Pred, that's what I'm hoping for. I expect that about 80% of the vacated Grade Officers will be exonerated during their appeal hearings. While I terminated all 200 Grade Officers, I needed to send a message across the board, that acts like this, WILL NOT be tolerated. Grade Officers are one of the following posts: *Hierarchy Grade Officer *Senior Grade Officer [Rokudan or Nanadan] *1st Junior Grade Officer [Godan] *2nd Junior Grade Officer [Yondan] *3rd Junior Grade Officer [sandan] *4th Junior Grade Officer [Nidan] *5th Junior Grade Officer [shodan] 4th and 5th Grade Officers are mainly used for Kyu Testing Cycles, however, having two of them, a Shodan and a Nidan or two of either, on a panel for Shodan are acceptable because of their combined experiences, AS LONG as a Senior Grade Officer is on same panel. It's rare, but it happens!! From Senior to 5th Grade Officer; that's the totality of what I've dismissed!! Since you're the only Kudan, does that mean only you can grade someone up to Nanadan and or Hachidan? Nope!! I'm not allowed to test on my own. However, technical I'd only be permitted to Grade someone to Nanadan, if testing on my own. However, we don't permit CI, and the like to test alone, or anyone for that matter; we require 5 on a testing panel/table, 3 as an absolute minimum. This is to ensure the testing cycle integrity!! Remember, when I was tested for Kudan, my testing cycle had a small company of mid-Senior Dan's as well as Senior Dan's, and to put a cherry on the whole thing, 3 of them were Hierarchy Senior Dan's. So, a company CAN test, and promote up even if they're junior to me; and they were indeed junior to myself. For either a Nanadan or a Hachidan, I'll for surely, not only on the panel/table, but I'll be center chair as the Testing Cycle Chairman. Greg, our Kancho, was the Testing Cycle Chairman when I tested for Kudan. Put a bunch of mid-Senior and Senior Dan's together, and that's a lot of knowledge and experience, and that helps to solidify the integrity of the testing cycle. Solid, did you and others buy the name, rights and ownership of the Hombu name and school after your dai soke passed?

I agree never correct the CI or any sensei on the floor. However, if you stick with this dojo and show loyalty. Then perhaps if you get a one on one personal time with your CI, then perhaps that would be the time to do so. But never on the floor, even if you think you're correct and that person is wrong.

What style of martial arts do you study?

Best wishes, I'm sure everything will workout. Or perhaps new people whom you haven't thought of will rise up to the occasion.

Hopes everything works out, how any grading officers at the Hombu did you guys have?

The Pred replied to The Pred's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Yes, it can be, and it can be..."Man, I miss THAT UFC!!" I like the fact that people wore their gis. Though Lyoto does wear his, plus I do respect the ones who bow before they enter. I believe that the ones who have a traditional martial arts background are the best fighters.
