  1. go dan
  2. 3yrs 5th kyu. Missed a test cause of injury, otherwise I should be 4th kyu by now. We test twice a year. There tends to be a 3rd and 2nd kyu hump, cause there is alot to prepare for shodan.
  3. I also can do this.
  4. Yes
  5. Sensei showed us these things about timing last week called. sen no sen go no sen and 2 others I forgot the name to. They were about hitting before, same time, in between and at the NEAR end of an opponents attack, so total of 4 sens. I forgot the names of what is what. Is anyone familiar with it?
  6. I find that to be a bit militant. People forget things, and if they are paying me for lessons, denying them the lessons as "punishment" for something that was an accident doesn't teach them anything at all other than to convince them that I am not a balanced person. I personally prefer to train in a t-shirt and shorts without the gi. I find the popping noise that the gi makes causes me to get complacent thinking that my techniques sound and look fast and snappy. I don't mind if a student forgets their stuff. As an instructor, I always kept spare black belts of mine on hand for students to wear when they forgot their belts, and I used to keep spare uniforms in the club too. So, when they forgot, I just let them put on my old, worn-out stuff and roll up the sleeves or whatever and get a workout. I try to remember that I am not Funakoshi and these students are not going off to World War II to fight and die for the Emperor. So, the training really doesn't need to be that militaristic to for them to get the point, imo. When I forgot my belt last week, I thought I wasn't able to join, so I sat on the floor. Sensei then asked me if I had forgotten my belt because he saw my gestures to another. I was telling another I had forgotten my belt with my hands cause I don't like to talk when the room is silent. He then asked me if I had my Gi, I said yes. He said it was o.k.

    preperation

Kanazawa will be testing me when the tiem comes, unless things happen, then it'll be one of his "equivalents."
  9. I do tie it like my shoes. I think Ill just wet my gi pants.
  10. In my Dojo we have 2 kinds. The really girly ones who can't punch or kick properly or the ones that go crazy insane and try to kill you with no control over their own movements.
  11. put bleach on the grass stains and wash.
  12. Usually when I sweat the gi soaks up the sweat and the strings don't move even when untied, but at the start when dry I find tey get loose. How do you tie your drawstring pants so they don;'t get loose?
  13. A ninja would use ninjitsu.

When counting a different set is used for a couple of numbers, nothing major.
  17. I forgot my belt last week.
  18. yeh in shotokan we use that deep chamber stance, but generally nobody does it during sparring. Some of the more experience members do but not THAT deep. They do it to generate more power on the hit and the have more stability.
  19. I never know where to look and focus my attention on. Where should I be looking?
  20. This has already been tried, from my understanding. I gained new information on the situation today. Apparently she is a student and has filed a formal complaint with the school against soem of the club and dojo members. From what I not much came of it, cause the dojo did something to quiet down the issue. I still dont have all teh info on the situation since it was something that happened when I wasn't around. Most of our members are afraid she will ultimately destroy our club/dojo. Right now one of the dojo training days has been cancelled, and I feel the dojo members who are not students will decide to leave. If they do so, our club/dojo will be no more. The "psycho wench" will have been successful in destroying everything. I don't yet completely understand why they fear her so much. I'm siding with Warlock on this one, but I'm gonna need to coax them more. At this moment I have a feeling the dojo will be seperating from our club and train off campus regardless cause of the situation. If such is the case, I say might as well chance it, let her file another complaint, let her file for the club to be audited, let her loose, but of course I don't speak for everyone.
  21. I appreciate all the helpful advice warlock. I'll let you all know how things turn out as the situation progresses. Oh and warlock, you mentioned the club constitution, our sensei is in the process of revising that right now, so we don't have any rules in writing to enforce as of the moment. Once it is all set, of course we will enforce the rules to the letter for this problem child. BTW way warlock, since you have had experience creating and maintianing these kind of clubs, could I refer to you for advice? I know nothing about organizing a club, this is the 1st club I have ever been in.
  22. Over the course of this week I have learned more concerning this issue. I'm new to the club, so I was unaware of the issues. Apparently she is a problem child with many opther members. Alot of other people don't like her. She bad mouths the other senpais too. She says "they hit to hard" "this is a club" Basically mc dojo stuff is what she expects. We don't do that mc dojo stuff around here. Anyways. The problem of booting her comes here. She is they type who would try to file a complaint complaing we discriminated her. She knows she is not welcome, but keeps comming, she just has no shame or believes her constant attendance is a way to stick it to us. I don't know. I vote for no shame. I just found out there is an issue of us having to balance student body and outside dojo members. due to school liability issues. students MUST out number outside instructors 4-1. We don't always have this ratio when students skip class. so the fear comes in, that once we kick her out, she will have us audited and if any night we are not fulfilling a 4-1 ratio, we are screwed. Cause we can't MAKE students come, they come if they care, and as we all know, most beginners aren't serious and tend to flake. So it is not cause my Sensei has no control over the class or lack of "balls". It is because she potentially has the ability to destroy our club and dojo with one audit through the power of complaining to the school. He is being careful so she doesn't destroy everything. I commend him for maintaining his cool. He told part of our trainign now is to endure that annoying lady. It is just another challenge we must all over come. Sensei doesn't instruct her. It was one of her complaints. "he doesn't teach anything, he never answers my questions!" And I only replied with, well if you showed respect, you would get it. Unfortunately this already happened on it's own. They were paired up randomly and they did drills, not sparring. I was not there., from what I heard ithe situation was CRAZY! She apparenlty blasted at the female senpai, saying she hit too hard, and all that jive and then proceeded to insult her, saying she doesn't even belong in the "club" , she wasn't even a student. It was jsut plain STUPID. and sensei had to keep thse two apart after that cause I think they were ready to go at it.
  23. We're working on it. Once the Sensei completes the new constitution for the dojo/club relationship and we submit to to the school we can "legitamately" kick her out if she doesn't shape up.
  24. Believe me guys, I want no part of it. We had a club meeting for our school Karate club, the school dojo and our club are connected. The club helps us maintain a dojo presence on campus. This all happened during a club meeting. (I have no idea why she was there) Yes I do ignore her, but in club meeting when she is saying disruptful things like that, it gets in the way of us trying to get things done. You are correct here and I already mentioned this to her during the club meeting. Being the belligerent person she is she replied with "Who rules are these" Why should I respect these rules if the "advisor" doe not respect me? I can do what ever I want!, Other people talk, why can't I talk!" It got no where. I also addressed this. Told her, if you don't like it there, then feel free to leave. Her reply was "You can't kick me out!, You have no right!" It disrupts me when I hold club meetings cause I am the VP of our club, and I think sensei gave up on it because as you can see, she is irrational. Let me clarify that, Sensei does know, and once he sees it he tells her to move. But before Sensei sees it, I try to tell her to get to my left without talking too much to violate etiquette myself, but she keeps yammering to the guy next to her (who she wanted to line next to for chit chat, that guy ignores her btw) Thsi other time she was yapping to him and pulled him to her right putting me to his right where I don't belong because he is one kyu above me. I completely agree with you guys, she should have some shame. She bad mouths our dojo and instructor, but keeps comming. Makes no sense to me. Oh and I was not the only one defending the name of our sensei, other members also stepped in. They tried to explain to her, when you are in dojo, our rules, step out and do whatever you want. She failed to understand that kept yammering :People do this, people do that why can't I!" She was referring to the kids that come by on saturdays who are dropped off by their parents, they are young and not completely aware of our dojo rules, so we let them slide, but we eventually tell the kids. As for talking in dojo, those are our white belts, they just don't know yet. But when I heard that I my only thought was "what are you 5, don't give me that he does this she does that bull" And throughout the whole thing none of us insulted her, but she felt very free to insult all of us. (not that her insults were very good, they were just ridiculous)
  25. I believe rice also works.
