Judo
broomhilda000 replied to sansoouser's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
yes, i've trained in judo for about 10 years. I was a white belt the first 4 years, but that's because I couldn't remember the names of the throws or count in japanese well. But I could beat any black belt there with ease. So now I am a 5th degree black belt. My top sensei is a 10 degree, we have the top 4 in state. -

from what i've seen it uses everything, inculuding chokes and arm bars, and they for some reason love hitting the groin on about every technique -
Believe in god and he will save you, I don't fear death but I want to live longer, time is time and if it is my time I will follow the lord.

Should you train at home on throws and things? I usually do but you could develop bad habits so is it good to train at home or does it matter on which style you are taking? Or technique.

broomhilda000 replied to yojimbo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Just amagine it for the fellow you throw who as no MA training ..... ouch!!!! Did you add on the cement, that will hurt anyone regardless of falling skills. -
I have been doing judo for awhile now and am a black belt, well when I first started I was already pretty good because of some sense where I could tell where tey balance was and where they were going to be off balance ( a VERY VERY important part of judo, this takes people years to master ) so I would spar or rhondori against high ranked belts up to brown belts and beat them mostly. I could take orange green yellow and like I said most brown belts. It wasn't strength because I was 14 and they were around 18 but it was the key to judo to use the balance I could just give em a quick jerk and stick out my foot and down they went, so my story just says that somepeople are more gifted in an art than others but I'm not saying that you could never learn the balance trait but it may takes years to learn as oppose to me who basically already knew it. So it is the fighter mostly, but without my techniques and my style then I would have furthered my balance trait and learned how to throw people.

Do you mean full contact sparring? Punches to the face and kicks?

to practise them get a spotter ( who knows what their doing ) and have them help you, where you jump as if you were going to do it and they have you by the and they flip you over and back onto your feet, learned it in gymnastics ONLY WITH SOMEONE TRAINED

This is just something I say that seems to help me... In martial arts you may have idols like in anything, such as Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Jackie Chan etc. etc. but you should not strive to become them you should try to become yourself and be the best you can be, falling short of them isn't a failure think of it as challenge to keep going, BUT NEVER TRY TO BE THEM. You may want to learn their style but don't try to imitate them.

well, seoi nage a one arm shoulder throw is a good counter from a straight punch, just side step it then grab the arm, but for mat work... Maybe something like a rear choke ( if you can ) a good head lock hold even if they can throw you around if you have a good hold go for a choke also, or armbars, wristbars, a rear mount, or you starting standing up or sitting down? -
ya i lift fast with light weight so I can have explosive power, i also use wrist weights and do shadow boxing for about 10 minutes, i've been doing it for a couple weeks now and my punhcing speed is tremednous I feel like Bruce Lee, it has made an incredible improvment.

Bruce Lee
broomhilda000 replied to Dragonias's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Ok heres a simple version. JKD is a style JKD is a style with no set rules and is always expanding JKD is a style with no rules or a certain way of doing techniques so in a way it does not have a style to it. Ok one more try here it is a style without style because it has no set way of doing techniques in it and can be changed to fit yourself, hence a style with no style. -
Bruce Lee
broomhilda000 replied to Dragonias's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
True, if you claim to teach JKD then you are teaching a style, but it could be a never changing style where new effective techniques are applied and so you would not be bound by rules or techniques. It could become a style less style. I mean because it takes things from practically every style, so it's more of a mixed martial art. It is a style but a style without style. Correct? -
I have an article here, http://www.judoinfo.com/sport.htm and this says the difference between learning self defense and sport martial arts. Some things it states are that self defense martial arts are sometimes impractical because they are practised with a willing opponent who does not fight back because the techniques are to dangerous, but then is that training really helping you? I mean i've seen this done before at speeds that seem like slow motion. And then there is sport a sport martial art you can train to improve reflexes because if you don't you get throe tripped or whatever. So in sport martial arts you are learning to defend yourself in the speed a real fight would occur at so you are learning and not just acting. I'd just like your OPINIONS on this subject, thanks[/b]

Use your one strength you have, I am small to and in my case it's speed ( well I am also strong for my size ) make them make a move and try to defend it, be like a mirror reflect his movements but like a mirror always reversed, if he drags you push him, if he pushes you pull him, use momemtum and physics not muscle. -
Judo vs Aikido
broomhilda000 replied to broomhilda000's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I've heard that in aikido you cannot practise your techniques on someone full force. I was wondering if this was ture. And if so how do you spar then? Thanks
