  1. Ummm...Patrick that is golden tiger
  2. hmmmm...I don't know that I would agree that Tae Kwon Do is 75/25% with a greater emphasis on the leg work...while the leg work is important, so is the hand/arm...without a well delivered punch, strike, etc. you will have a hard time 'winning' a fight. Legs are important but I would probably say it is a 50/50% rather than 75/25%
  3. Okay, I am used to the word "Kata" thanks for the explanation...
  4. Please forgive my ignorance but what is a "poomse"? I have never heard of it.
  5. hehehe, I just have the luck to live there already
  6. really though, this whole site (I believe) is very well laid out, all the graphics combine well, etc.
  7. must have been an accident or something (or he just hasn't done it yet) but you can get the info he is talking about at: http://www.ifroggy.com/karateforums/forums/faq.php#ranks _________________ Sincerely, James Dasher http://jamesdasher@dashermarketing.com http://www.dashermarketing.com [ This Message was edited by: jamesdasher on 2001-05-31 18:38 ]
  8. like it was said, sounds like you enjoy some fun and fast hobbies look forward to talking with you in the future here.
  9. I must say I have to agree with Patrick, I like a lot of things. Especially things in the Mexican or Chinese type foods. Though I do like a lot of the 'american type' foods (steak, etc.)
  10. it is a lot of fun, ju-jitsu I mean. You are right it does make some use of things that are similar to Aikido, as far as I have found out Aikido is more of a 'defensive' art. Meaning you take anything your opponent does and turn it against him. I promise you Aikido HURTS, ju-jitsu is a little bit more 'toned downed' but it still does make a lot of use of things like the wrists and nerve points to subdue an opponent.
  11. your getting there 'blood eagle' you have one of the highest posts counts of all, see you at the next rank soon
  12. wow, very well written, and it makes sense, what is the point of life if you reach a 'point or an end' as you put it of learning? Is not life made up of learning? Your example fits very well as well, good job. I can tell that I will be learning a lot from you in the future.
  13. I don't know if I can answer that question the way it is put 'one place' don't think I can do it, there are so many places I would like to visit, England, France, Germany, China, Australia, and more...
  14. thanks for the wishes guys, now I need to go get my driving license (yes!)
  15. jdoub, do you consider yours a one of the styles of martial arts that is meant more to teach 'applied' knowledge (knowledge that will 'enable' you to 'hold your own' in a fight) or more a type that works on technique, control, points, etc.? Neither is bad and neither is necessarily 'good' each has there own points, just wondering. _________________ Sincerely, James Dasher http://jamesdasher@dashermarketing.com http://www.dashermarketing.com [ This Message was edited by: jamesdasher on 2001-05-31 18:15 ]
  16. Hi, welcome, already a moderator and know karate expierence you are a first
  17. Don't know how much truth it has but I have been told that while most people believe it all started in places like China, Korea, Japan, etc. I have been told that it really originated in India? Could be true, not sure...I think my sensei said it so he probably knows what he is talking about (at least for my style).
  18. lol, thanks
  19. yep, he is right, I was confused, talked with my sensei, and I had it backward, sorry about that
  20. Hey, lars best part about the design are those belts for ranks huh? lol, just kidding
  21. Hi, Tae Kwon Do, is the main style that I study...you are right, it includes a lot more use of the feet/legs in kicks, etc. then something like Judo/Ju-jitsu (which makes use of flex points, wrists, nerves, and uses techniques to 'subdue' an opponent then actually kill him like, throws, etc.) it is actually a lot of fun. You will find that some kind of martial arts that is or is a 'relative' of Tae Kwon Do is what you usually see in the movies because as you saidit 'looks cool.' As for your legs it makes use of muscles that you don't use for much else, so until you get used to it, it does hurt (but pain is a part of success in martial arts). _________________ Sincerely, James Dasher http://jamesdasher@dashermarketing.com http://www.dashermarketing.com [ This Message was edited by: jamesdasher on 2001-05-24 15:44 ]
  22. Hi, I might be wrong but if you are doing a 'one step' in Judo/Ju-jitsu the person who is 'taking the fall' is the Uke, and the person performing the technique is the "Tory" (I am not sure how it is spelled). What I mean is I think it is 'reversed' from what you said, but I may be wrong
