  1. if a guy attacks you, pummeling him IS the only way to make sure he wont attack you anymore. do what you have to, just dont go absolutely insane, and explain calmly what happened to the authorities (only if you have to deal with them at all, that is. id prefer to simply hospitalize someone and leave.) if you were forced into action, and appear like a decent guy, youll be fine.

  2. muscle or fat, your choice. work out, and for gods sake find someone who really knows how and will teach you correctly (most people dont), and make sure your body is ready for it. forget what radok said, dont do deadlifts. ever. (same goes for good mornings). know what? just send me a private message if you want a routine that will actually do you more good than bad.

  3. good post whitey. anyway, yeah, totally agree its bad for your hands, not just because of everything whitey said, though its all true... but because the actual force on your knuckles, because they are bones, is bad. you can damage the tiny parts of the bone and over time push them back into your fist. and yea, probably any type of heavy bag would require gloves for the above reasons.

personally, i like the fingerless gloves because they feel more like a fist than any other glove, though any bag glove (with enough padding for my rock hard denim filled 75lb-er) is acceptable.

  4. my point is that unless people here are professional (as in amateur or above) they dont get anywhere above like a 2 or 3. sure, there might be some serious asskickers in here, i dont know... but the way i rate it by the time you hit 4 youer preeeeetty damn good.

  5. i dont know how youre all rating things... but it seems everyone has a different yard stick. me, id consider a normal guy whos never fought or trainied a zero, and someone like ken shamrock or lennox lewis or other world class fighters a 9 or 10. (my scale based soley on fighting ability) based on that, i seriously doubt anyone in this forum is above a 2, myself included. lets face it, they could whoop our * with the flu.

  6. well, muay thai doesnt really (or typically, i guess) teach you where to hit people on the street to cause major damage... but its kind of common sense, you know? (that is to say punching a throat is not allowed in mt ring fights) my kung fu experience was my first martial arts experience, and brief as it was (not very impressed) it did get me in the right mindset as far as breaking arms, punching throats, etc. however, i wouldnt necessarily give it credit- its just kind of common sense. just like kicking the knee. mt guys arent allowed to do it, but anyone whos got any smarts knows what itll do, and would hopefully think to do it outside the ring to end a fight just like that. punching a throat, to me, is not so much a "technique" differing from punching a face, just an aiming issue.

  7. there are two things you need to do. first, you must eat properly (refer to a food pyramid, specifically the veggies and fruits part) and count your calories, keep them around 1500 to 2000 id guess (dont take my word on those numbers). second, you need to do cardio exercise. from the sounds of it youre not able to run much, so speed walk until you can jog (tredmill is fine). start with atleast 10 minutes a day, try and work your way up to 15, then 20... 30... so on. dont eat a huge meal before bed- in fact, eat many times a day in very small amounts. grazing is the key, never being hungry but never eating a lot.

  8. thats true, i completely forgot about one of my favorite manuevers- punching someone in the throat. or failing that the neck. but the throat is great- dude cant breath after that, hes not an issue anymore.

and let me say bravo for being one of the few who realize that serious force is sometimes necessary, even without actually being attacked but for percieving a threat; and that destructive power is an essential part of self defense. also for recognizing that blackbelts should actually have such abilities as you described, not just done some * test.

one thought though- a groin kick is not always enough to stop a guy, especially if you have to spend time dispatching a friend of his.

  9. exactly, when i use bag gloves on a heavy bag, its only natural to use the part that covers my fingers. on the street i know not to, but i guess many dont. but with these gloves (which id say are necessary for hitting a hard heavy bag) you get more of a feel of a real fist and can concentrate on hitting correctly, as if you had no fist. you need them for hitting certain inanimate objects, i dont understand how theyre like practicing with a sword still in its sheath.
