Hey all, KarateForums.com turned 18 on May 21. These birthdays are getting pretty amazing! I'd like to recognize our current staff for their incredible contributions to our community over the years. I just did the numbers and this team of 9 have been members for a combined 29,706 days or about 73.17 years. It's an understatement to say this is something to behold. Thank you to Brian (bushido_man96), Danielle (DWx), Alex (tallgeese), Noah (Wastelander), Bob (sensei8), Devin (Lupin1), Liam (Nidan Melbourne), JR (JR 137) and Mo (Mazzybear). I appreciate the contributions you've made in public and private, and the tone that you have helped set for the community. Thank you for your kindness, support and for being such an important part of our forum! Happy 18th birthday, KarateForums.com! Patrick

Hey all, Ten years ago today, Alex (tallgeese) became a moderator at KarateForums.com. I love Alex's journey as a martial artist as told through his contributions in our community. His passion for the arts, his decisions to diversify his training, and to open a school of his own. We've seen it all play out, and I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed it. Coincidentally, May 4 marked 11 years that Alex has been a member of our community. Alex has been such a great, selfless contributor here, and I think he's only become a more valuable contributor as time has passed. Detailed, open, smart, and thoughtful. Both as a member and as a staff member, where his understanding of the moderator role is refined and helps to keep our community in a good place. If you're reading this, I hope that you'll join me in congratulating Alex and sharing your thoughts on this thread. In addition, we'll be sending Alex and his family out to dinner (and I'll be sending you a DM right after I post this, Alex, in order to set this up). Alex, thank you for being such an exemplary member, for showing others the way, and for encouraging people to share their viewpoints. Thank you for being a great member of our team and for all of your support over the years. It's a privilege to have you here. Patrick

[:)] New Feature: Limiting Posts to 280 Characters

Sorry for the annoyance! https://www.karateforums.com/april-fool-s-day-the-character-limits-are-gone-vt52519.html Thanks, Patrick -
Hey all, Hope you had a fun day. I've gone ahead and removed the character limits. Sorry if it was annoying. For those seeing this after the fact, the quick reply, extended reply and new post text boxes were all restricted to 280 characters, with a countdown beneath them to show how many characters you had left. You actually could not write more than that number of characters. http://www.karateforums.com/img/photos/karateforumscom-april-fools-day-2019.png Thank you for your patience! Patrick

Hello, Thank you for visiting KarateForums.com. We take pride in the community that we have here, and how it's different from mainstream social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. But that doesn't mean that we can't learn from them. One thing that I have always appreciated about Twitter is the character limit they put on the posts that you make. The maximum of 280 characters forces brevity. Twitter is a platform where people are thoughtful, respectful, and consider their words carefully. That limit encourages users to value each character and each word, and to use them with great discretion. I think we should strive to take our words as seriously. As such, I have decided that we'll be limiting posts on KarateForums.com to 280 characters. Right after I make this post, this feature will be live, and you'll find that there is a character count below each new topic and reply text box, both the quick and extended replies. If you have any feedback or questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this thread or send me a private message. Thanks for reading. Patrick

If you want any video game-related advice, my girlfriend definitely has some, she went to Japan and loved it, haha. Actually, advice from her is in the second thread Bob linked to. (Good list, Bob!) But if anyone else has any advice, definitely add it here! Thanks. Patrick

Everything was going great until Gonzaga. I'll still win the family pool, but the rest is in the toilet.

They released the trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood the other day: If you go to the :46 mark, you'll hear (and then see) the actor they have playing Bruce Lee. It was filmed down the street on Hollywood Blvd. I wasn't here at the time, but it was really cool how they took it back in time: Patrick
