Hey all, I think the answer to your problem is clear, Bob. Just post more here. What? That's not possible, you say? Well, alright. Heh. I just thought I'd offer some thoughts on the book angle of things. Traditional publishing and self publishing are both viable options. It really depends on what you want to do and what your goals are. When it came time to make a decision regarding my book, I decided I wanted to work with the largest publisher I could and the best traditional publishing situation I could find. There were numerous reasons for this, but two of the major ones were that I wanted the stamp of legitimacy that comes with traditional publishing and I wanted to do what I could to get the book in major book stores. Traditional publishing doesn't equal legitimacy and there is no end to the number of self-published books that are legitimate. So, it's not like that. Rather, it means something when a publisher says "yes, we like your idea and we'll put $50,000+ behind it" in author advances, staff salaries and more. Likewise, self published books can get in stores, but it is very challenging to do so on a mass basis if you haven't established your name. For example, Chuck Norris could self publish a book and get it in every book store in the country. But, most people could not. For me, it paid off. My book was in pretty much every Barnes & Noble in the country at one period or another, in addition to random other stores internationally (like Chapters/Indigo in Canada). And there are a lot of other benefits to traditional publishers, too. The team of people, the editors, etc. is highly valuable when it comes to creating a valuable product. You can get those people, but you have to pay for them - they have salaries. So, if this is a message you really, really want to spread in the widest way possible and one that you feel might help a lot of people, you might want to consider traditional publishing. If that is the case, I definitely recommend having a good agent. Mine has been very useful and valuable to me. In the end, if you consider it, self publishing may be the way to go and it has it's own set of benefits. I'd be happy to chat more about the traditional publishing process if so desired, but this post is going to be long enough as is for now. But, if this is something where you want to write a book to pass out to friends, then self publishing is almost certainly the right option. Some additional options to look at include: http://www.iuniverse.com http://www.createspace.com (owned by Amazon.com) http://www.lulu.com http://www.blurb.com Anyway, I hope that this helps. Best of luck. Patrick

Hey rayjag, My pleasure. Cool. I don't really have much experience in that area as I'd generally use some sort of software or platform to run the site as that tends to work best. It may be worthwhile to save some money and pay a skilled designer to put together something for you based on WordPress. You can get a really nice website developed by a one-man shop or a small firm for a couple of thousand of dollars, I've found. And it tends to be worth it. I'll continue to think about this and if I find any WYSIWYG editors you could use or turn key solutions, etc. Best of luck. Thanks, Patrick

Hello, Thank you for visiting KarateForums.com. We will have some scheduled downtime starting around 9 AM ET (GMT -4) on Monday, as we move to a new server. If all goes as expected, the downtime will not be particularly long or noteworthy. But, just in case, I wanted to make sure that you were aware of it. I appreciate your time and understanding. Sincerely, Patrick

Hey rayjag, There are a few different elements to keep in mind. You need web hosting, which hosts your website files and makes them accessible via the internet. Depending on your needs and the traffic you receive, this can range from a few bucks a month up to infinity. Most likely starting at $10 or less a month should suffice. Assuming this is a website you care about and plan to invest it, having a domain name (for example, karateforums.com, yourname.com, etc.) is a good idea. It's a little like having your own postal address, versus getting your mail delivered at someone else's house. If you have yourname.somethingelse.com, the owner of somethingelse.com controls that name and you don't. And then you have your website files. Are you planning to pay a designer or developer? Or do you have a friend that was going to help you out? Or were you hoping to do it yourself by reading some guides and installing a publishing platform like WordPress? Or perhaps, if it's basic enough, through some sort of web based website generator or creator? There are different services out there that will allow you to do that, but they can be limiting. I hope that this helps. Once I know some more, I'll be glad to offer some more thoughts. Thanks, Patrick

I suppose it's fine. Outside of making sure he is and stays healthy, Marshall is really the least of our concerns. I don't really know that that situation last year was any more Marshall's fault than it was McDaniels'. You don't do things like what McDaniels did last year, calling out Marshall and saying he's lying about his injury before the last game of the year, after he had played and produced all season. The numbers are right there. He shows up, plays hard and produces. You don't catch 100 balls for three consecutive years if you don't. Patrick

Yeah, one day I want to go back and play them all and beat them front to back with no warps, etc. Heh. My pleasure on the link. Patrick
