I fought against a bully today
Rich_2k3 replied to GhostFighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Looking away and swinging? i'm sorry but you might aswell not of strated martial arts if you gonna fight like that. I think a big problem with many MA's is that their happy to go to the lessons and learn and train but when push comes to shove they dont use what they've learnt because A. deep down they dont think it will work B. they arent confident enough to use it. My advice is that IF you have to fight again hit him hard and fast and do not stop. Lay down a flurry of punches on his face and be contolled and cool about it. By the sounds of it the guy you fought was doing the same as you, so he obviously was a very bad fighter, but if you have control and face him ie. dont look away and hit hard and confident, with the intention to hit him and make contact then you should win. In the mean time keep training and keep working out. Seeing post like that sadens me and I makes me think of one thing: "Mcdojos" - not trained properly. -
Defense against School Scuffles
Rich_2k3 replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The problem is that this kid is getting picked on and pushed around by MULTIPLE bullies, who may be bigger than him aswell. If you tell them to stop they'll laugh and probably try harder and if you actually hit them (when there in a group) they will most likely go tag team on you. Its hard to give advice when I dont know what the school, teachers, bullies and you are like, but i'd say make them loose interest, dont give them any satisfaction, they'll probably leave you alone eventually, the storm will pass trust me. In the mean time train hard and workout. -
Fighting a Boxer
Rich_2k3 replied to shaolin10's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
If he was a good boxer he'd be in good shape, hit hard and be able to take lots of blows (i'm talking about a real fight now), I wouldnt like to fight a boxer. Not becuase boxing is amazing for self defence, but becuase the boxing training itself builds you up and makes you very tough and strong. Against a boxer i'd probably fight real dirty and eye jab, groin kick and hit him when he's down then run. A good boxer is a good fighter simply becuase of their physical training. -
Effective Against Multiple Attackers?
Rich_2k3 replied to keith_aquino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Also the difference in speed between your attackers would be minimal, therefore they'd be like a few meters behind each other. You'd stop to fight and have literally a matter of seconds to take down your opponent before the other/s arrive, and even then you'd have to get back up to speed while there at full pelt. You'd need the speed and the accelaration of sprinter and the stammina of a marathon runner and alot of luck on your side and even then there are 100 different reasons why it wouldnt work. Not only that, but you'd need to be a damn good martial artist to take them down in a split second each. VERY BAD IDEA. -
Mine is more of a "oooosss!!!"

HELP!! My ROOM!! READ READ READ =)

Get a set of samurai swords for the wall, they're very cheap, start at around £30($60) and go up to thousands. Check ebay, there're are some very cheap swords on there both practical (more expensive cuz they are very sharp) and non-practical (for display purposes). I've got a great sword, set me back £130($260) and it will cut through large blocks of wood and people! its called paul chen practical plus katana. U'll need some wall mounts to put the sword on the wall. -
Boxing training is more focused on body conditioning, ie. theres alot more bag work, focus pads, skipping etc. My style of karate is heavily focused on boxing and kickboxing training to improve fitness.

I hope u woud never consider using them in a real fight...

Yeah, the spinning elbow is good aswell.

I'm really not sure, try googleing it, i'm sure u'll find somthing.
-
What about skipping? or maybe abit of light jogging?

Thx seven, not sure when i'll start, i've got a friend who has no martial arts experience at all, he wants to start boxing. I'm trying to get him to give Muay Thai a go, but i dont think the idea of kicking apeals to him, i think he thinks that its all fancy high kicks, which it obviously isn't. He's a big powerful build and would do well in muay thai, he's after boxing style training for fitness which is very similar to thai. I'f i can get him to watch a lesson, i know he would fall in love with it. Just want to get some feedback on what kind of stuff i'll expect.

I disagree, the spinning back fist is faster than other spinning attacks, and with a little practise is relativly easy to do. Think of it this way; if u execute a spinning back fist in the middle of a combo, the spin is almost instantaneous, and the attack itself is alot faster, less predictable and much harder to block/dodge than any other punches. To be honest, if its used in some full-contact competitions (sorry thought it wasnt in K1) then it can be used in real life. If u watch maches like K1, all the techniques can be used and should be used in real life. Fancy spinning kicks in K1 are extreamly rare and for good reason, they are telegraphed and are simply not nessesary, however a spinning back fist is a fundemental punch in a martial artists arsenal, in and out of the ring.

Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?
Rich_2k3 replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Krav maga is an example of pure no-nonsense self defence (the kind used by the armed forces/police) Its designed to be easy to learn and simple to use. UFC is entertainment where u watch a long-winded brawl between two ppl. Self-defence is about either incapacitating or dare I say it, killing ur opponent. Although i do admit, remove the gloves, the rules and add the uncompromising will to survive and UFC is pretty much a real fight. -
I was about to say the exact same thing. 8 vs 1 is impossible, unless their a group of extreamley pathetic human beings or a bunch of kids. Anyone who says otherwise should try and take on 8 ppl, all though they'd probably never be able to tell us how it went... Back to the subject, i saw such a gr8 fight between two women last night outside a club. One of them was a complete man-beast and the other a complete a witch. Anyway there was about 15 minutes of abuse being shouted (both were being restrained by groups of friends) and suddenly the witch broke free and started hitting the other girl. Honestly they were the worst punches i've ever seen! she kept slapping the top of the girls head with qlenched fists and screaming, then she suddenly fell to her knees and began crying for some reason, the other girl started crying aswell and just walked of with her boy friend (who was also a complete freak).

Whats with the poll? 2 of everything?

If u ask most ppl what their favorite technique is they'd say some fancy kick like an axe kick or spinning hook kick, however if u ask me i'd say a spinning backfist. Its relativley simplistic but still very powerful. It's also against the rules to use in K1 and many kick boxing and thai boxing fights, due to its dangerously high power. Basically I want to know if u would ever use this technique, or if u ever have, and what are ur experiences with it, also do u think its really practical for use in self-defence?
