I'm starting to get angry.............
KaratekaAikidoist replied to KaratekaAikidoist's topic in Karate
Ok, I was afraid you guys were gonna jump me or something. I think I get it now. I never ralf before tests! -
I've seen a few posts that just say that a person got their next belt. Then all these other people jump in and say "Congrats" and "Good Job, keep going" etc. Do these people seek attention because they don't get enough otherwise or what? I got my black belt, and once in a while I refer to it but I don't make a whole topic on how I got it so that everyone says "wow, good job". Granted, everyone should be congradulated when they get their next belt but why would you need to have strangers to commend you? Do these people want attention or to be "feared and respected" on this website? I've got news for some of ya. We're all in Martial Arts, not just you. SORRY IF THIS IS A LITTLE................MEAN. But I'm just wondering.............

Well I started when I was 10 so I've said stuff to my friends and other MA in my school. It's also hard when you wanna do something but you can't because you want to go to karate and you have to make an excuse to tell a friend.
-
Ninpo and Ninjutsu are essentially the same right? Kendo or Kenjutsu would be nice to train in but I can't even FIND one much less contact a dojo. One of the guys at my dojo said the same thing about ninjutsu teachers. I just really want to find one.

What is a reverse blade sword? I've heard the term before but never understood it. Can someone explain?

okinawa and japan: friends and alies or bitter enemies?
KaratekaAikidoist replied to fireka's topic in Karate
The satsuma-shimazu clan invaded okinawa and the okinawans formed goju. The japanese picked it up from them."I think" -
I'm involved in Goju Ryu and Aikido, but just recently got my black belt. I want to take Kendo and Ninjutsu but all the dojo's I find nearby can't be contacted or closed down. I've heard a ninjustsu dojo is a rarety as ninjustsu is becoming "exstinct" but I really want to take it. If anybody can help me, don't hesitate to reply. I've already check out ninjutsu. com and I can't contact the nearest dojo.

Fireka, Belt tying doesn't depend on "skill" necassarily, it takes time. I didn't learn for a LONG time and still don't completly get it. If your young, it's even harder to understand. Don't worry, it just takes time.
-
So you believe me fireka? I know it wasn't gas, It was strange cuz one minute I feel on the virge of passing out, then I'm not thinking of anything but surviviing.

If a person is driver to act only because of words then Matrial Arts has taught you nothing. was that directed toward me? I just try to get left alone. I only fight if I must and if people don't think I can do it, they should try and find out. I wish my friends could either shut up about karate or try it, no medium.

Well, I tested today and I got it.

My neighbor and I train in japanese goju ryu. He got to green belt then quit and I continued to black. About a month ago, he expressed an interest in ninjutsu. A week later it was kendo and now its Kung Fu. He's starting to drive me nuts. My neighbor also tries to impress his friends by saying he can beat me up even though I'm in karate. He's 2 years younger and is a total weakling. I've beaten him many times before and he likes to continue to act like he's gonna take some form of martial arts and kick my @$$. I have nothing against ninjutsu, kendo or kung fu and I'd actually like to take them someday but I don't go around bragging about how I'm "going to" I'll say something when I take it. He has a slight learning problem so that may be why he didn't stick with karate. One of the students at my current dojo and his former dojo said that he wants to get a black belt but doesn't want to do the work. I tell him "the neighbor" that at least I didn't quit and that pretty much ends his martial arts talks but how can I make him shut up?

I took my black belt test and about half way through I got this weird feeling. I've heard of shuggio which is testing your worth as a warrior by intense training and then of course zen. Is there anyway to tell the difference? What I felt was "pressure" all over my body and then It went away in about 2 minutes. Was it a transition from my normal state to shuggio or what?

I lift my leg up to the side, pivot my standing leg, kick, then pivot back

Well, the one inch punch topic doesn't necassarily make or break the case for ki's existence. And did you get this info from a reliable source? Really, Its a personal matter weither or not you believe in ki.
-
So basically the main response is "They're either idiotic or just jerks and their opinions shouldn't effect what I think about karate because they know very little, if nothing about it?"
-
Excellent job on your brown belts! Thanks for your encouragment on the testing. I test for Black Belt in 4 days.

I talked to my sensei about them and thats sorta what he said. In 6th grade, one of the anti karateka would pull wresteling moves on me and i wouldn't or couldn't do much. Maybe now he's noticed he can no longer do these, as I elbow him or kick him. Maybe they're intimidated that I'm testing for black and I also hold another belt in aikido. Maybe I'm getting too involved according to them. Or Perhaps one is jealous. Like I said, his parents wouldn't even let him watch a class. I don't understand smr, you did nothing to insult me. This tread is sorta about ki so nobody minds.
-
Thats why i said i didn't mean offense and didn't want to get to far off in religion. I just needed an example. Personally, I hate it when people try to run dojo's and incorporate god.(saw an ad in black belt)

I just responded to your thread and just saw that you replied to this one. The kid didn't read an article that said ki is focused adrenaline or air, he just said that as an explaination I guess. As I already said, he tries to sound smart constantly. I explained my thoughts on ki on your post, so I won't do it again but i just thought that if they were my friends, they'd just say, "Im not sure" and not go on a crusaude to prove ki's noexistence. I feel truly accepted here by being able to say what I think. I also told one of them that I should start talking to a few guys who take tae kwon do at my middle school. I figured that even though they don't take my style, they'd at least understand. That also got them angry that I may prefer a martial artist friend over one of them. Now i get angry comments when I say I'm going to a tournament or talk about ki to the tae kwon do people. I say that if they have a problem, don't say anything and let me talk to who I want.

smr, did you get this from my Anti Karateka thread? Fireka, I'm interesting in reading your book when your done, tell me about it. I think ki is being in control over everything in your body. To master it, you must be in tune with all aspects of your mind, soul AND body. Think of it this way. If you don't want to do something, you most likely won't do it well, But if you did like it, you'd strive to do better. Thats a spirit/mental example. When you focus on something, you also do it better. When you train for a while, you may get a "second wind". Where do you suppose that came from? It just "happens" That could be the releasing of a small amount of ki. (Im not saying that your a low rank because I have no idea) but about the time I got to third degree brown, 5 months before black, I started to think "Hey, maybe I do understand and believe in Ki" So maybe when you get a little higher, you'll understand to. Not to get off in religion and if you don't believe in god, i mean no offense, but god and ki are alike in only one aspect. You don't see them but you know they're there. My last question is do you believe executing a technique and yelling "kia" boosts power? If so, where did that come from? Maybe its adrenaline, maybe just excitement or perhaps...........Ki? I'm not trying to sound like some smart ass "I know it all and thats that" teenager. I'm only fourteen but I do believe in Ki and I don't care what others say. I just tell them my thoughts and let them decide.
-
Thanks for the backup Fireka. I kinda feel like they just are really ignorant. I mean, they have to go around demoralizing a key principal just because it doesn't make total sense to them. I kinda get what you mean about the karate effectiveness Musician, but I'm not 100% in understanding it. I guess it would be like if you told someone who never practiced in karate that it doesn't work and you were of decent rank, they'd trust you on it. Is that what your saying? Can someone give me an explaination on this. One kid who acts like he knows everything said ki is either adrenaline or air. Where would he get air from? Is that just his stupidness?
-
So is that like if i was to think martial arts really didn't work well, someone who trains with me may think the same thing?
-
I always thought Hard/Soft meant counter a hard technique with a soft movement.
-
Thats another thing that got me. One of the anti karateka was previously thinking of joining my dojo. His parents wouldn't let him even go watch. They both are typical teenagers so I'm sure they could care less. (not to say I'm not a teen but....) His dad was a 5 degree in kung fu i think so you'd expect him to at least not diss anything MA related. Do you know of anyway to persuade them?
