I know it's not exactly what you are looking for as the book isn't an instructional book but never the less it's a great read for any Karate-ka, full of inspiring words. Waking Dragons by Goran Powell Amazon UK Link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Waking-Dragons-Martial-Artist-Ultimate/dp/1840245131/sr=8-1/qid=1165415743/ref=pd_ka_1/203-1366382-2923940?ie=UTF8&s=books

Not wishing to hijack this thread.... My 12 year old son is currently a 3rd KYU (1st brown) I'm a 2nd KYU My wife and younger son (6) don't train but the little `un might start when I think he's old enough (our club accepts children from 5, but I think he's not mature enough yet, maybe when he's 10-11)

Thanks for the compliment. I know that Shukokai is not a common style, and yes I agree it is nice to meet other Shukokai people.

Congratulations KarateK!

I use Icon Martial Arts for all of my mail order (via the Internet) - But I live in the UK and I'm not sure if they send items outside of the UK, you could always email them? sales@iconmartialarts.com http://www.iconmartialarts.com

Hi CathShadow It's always nice to hear from another Shukokai Karate-Ka A great website for Shukokai Kata's and forum is the one hosted by the Traditional Shukokai Karate Association (TSKA). Their wesbite is http://www.tska.co.uk Check out the Downloads section for some video's of Shukokai Kata's (not sure if they are Kimura style kata's but the instructors trained with Kimura). The downloads section is for registered users, but you can sign up for free on the site.

I went on Saturday and I was very impressed with the new hall, in fact the whole show was loads better than the last few years.

I'm going this year with my wife and eldest son, I've been for the last 3 years and it's always interesting. Then again I only live 10 miles from the NEC

I've never delt with I've never dealt with martial art shop personally but I have been around a long time, I’ve just purchased a punch bag from Icon Martial Arts - http://www.iconmartialarts.com and I can wholly recommend them. The only company I would not use is Bliz Sport (https://www.blitzsport.com) – I’ve heard loads of bad stories about them from nay different people.

Congrats - nice pictures by the way!

Hi shukokai2000, I'm also another Shukokai Karate person in the UK! I agree that there are not that many books on Shukokai compared to other styles, heres a list that you might want to have a search for: Karate-do (by Master Tani...197?) Shukokai Karate Kata (Tommy Morris 1982) Roaring Silence (Michael Clarke 1986) Karate-the Complete Course (Tommy Morris 1987) Shukokai Karate Combinations ("KOA" 1976) The Kobe-Osaka Story (Tommy Morris 1979) Basic Shukokai Handbook (SKU 1982) Shukokai Pinan Kata (Stan Knighton 1995) Fundementals of Karate-do (Keiji Tomiyama 1987) The only book in this list that I have is Stan Knighton's Shukokai Pinan Kata, I got it from https://www.martialartsuperstore.com If your after more Shukokai info, download free Kata videos etc. check out the excellent website of the Traditional Shukokai Karate Association here in the UK - https://www.tska.co.uk

I also like Pinan Yondan, it's one of those kata that just feels right - along with Pinan Shodan. My second favorite is Bassai Dai.

Favourite/Preferred Technique you use in tournaments?
Rig replied to Red Triangle student's topic in Karate
My Favourite is to feint a mae geri (front snap kick) then turn it into a jodan mawashi geri when the defender attempts to block it. My second favourite technique is a leading hand face punch (mackan zuki) and follow up with a leading leg mawashi geri -
I agree, it's my fav. mag I also agree that it's a right pain to find at the newsagents, with mainly only large WH Smiths carrying it. I was lucky, my wife bought me a subscription for Chrismas. I have not had chance to read this months edition yet, I was keeping it for the train on Monday, so I'll post my views within the next few days.

Same here, the latest version of Opera (7.51) is the best yet. I also use AVANT as a backup brower, it's uses IE as it's engine but it's got loads more features such as Tabbed browsing, Popup blocker, etc. and it's free.
