  1. I still don't see how jump roping is such a GREAT excersise, it's merely the same idea as jumping jacks.
  2. Is jump roping something to consider in training? I mean, is it a strong way to benefit the cardio, and make kicks stronger? Let's say if I were to fit in a 20min jump rope excersise between my training, would it apply a great effect? I think a lot of boxers use it, but...why?
  3. http://www.jsw.com/img/content/ssaurabi3.jpg It's called the "Ssaurabi Machine". I've practiced with it at my old TKD Dojang. I don't know where, how, or how much it costs to get it (I've looked everywhere). Anyways, Ssaurabi measures how hard and how accurately you kick or strike the targets, as well as your speed and recovery time. This allows you to beat your own high score and such. So yes, when you kick/punch it displays the power with numbers. And there is a mode where the spots light up as you kick them trying to catch up (think of that DDR game, except instead of dancing...kicking/punching), and that your strikes must be a power above a certain measure so you can't cheat. Also there's a mode where it simply counts how many times you can kick within a certain amount of time...and ofcourse the simple "power test" strike. If you/anyone figures out or knows how to/where get one of these please contact me by PM or something. I desperately want one of these!
  4. In the article contains...: That's strange, how can you guys still respect him as "one of the best" when you realised he was using those drugs?
  5. yah what's your website though? I'm interested in seeing the pictures.
  6. I've been wondering, how can I get those two vertical cut lines on the outside of my abs? I couldn't find a good example on the internet so I couldn't provide a picture...I can only hope you guys know what I'm talking about. Is there a completely different excercise to get them? I've done five sets of 100 crunches for a while a long with my training. My abs are pretty cut, but I'm just missing those two vertical lines around them! Can anyone help?
  7. Interesting, well I've made my decision thanks to you guys . I've decided upon practicing "Judo" to blend in with my striking abilities. w00t.
  8. But would Aikido work as a good DEFENSIVE tactic in a MMA competition situation?
  9. To the Japanese, looking up or facing ANYBODY as you bow shows complete disrespect toward that person.
  10. A boy asked his Karate Sensei, "Sensei, is Karate the best of all Martial Arts?" The Sensei replied, "Though there are many paths At the foot of the mountain All those who reach the top See the same moon."
  11. I've seen demonstrations of Aikido and they're pretty astonishing. But by the looks of them, they seem almost impossible to pull of in a UFC/Pride match...what do you guys think? Would it be valuable to know Aikido in that sort of situation? Why or why not?
  12. With both traditionally equiped, I believe the Samurai would surpass the Knight no doubt. Speed: Knight(less) Samurai(greater) Agility: Knight(less) Samurai(greater) Honor/Passion/Spirit: Knight(less) Samurai(greater) Offense: Knight(less) Samurai(greater) Deffense: Knight(greater) Samurai(less) HHHHHMMMMMM....who would winnn???(sarcasm) But then firearms came along...and then speed agility or all that stuff didn't matter anymore. btw: it has been said that samurai's katana could penetrate the average armour of the knight with a thrust, but not a slash.
  13. yah but 300lb?? I never knew bags that heavy even existed.
  14. Well what I've heard from Judo is that they depend on the opponents clothing as support for their throw, is this true? And in UFC or Pride the competitors tend to NOT wear clothing...
  15. WHO WOULD WIN?? MUAHAHAHA!! (note: forgive my behavior, I am tired and sleepy and this thought just came to my head and it was just mind boggling to me)
  16. simple question.... Were the floppy flingy swords seen in Chinese movies just for the matter of safety or were they really that weak?
  17. Capoeira emphasizes on momentum and swinging the leg to perform the kick, which is bad. It doesn't have that "snapping" impact that is required for the kick to be strong. Slave owners did not want their slaves practicing martial arts, incase they would rebel. So slaves had to disguise martial art into a sort of dance, which is why I think Capoeira misses many important aspects of fighting. Butt...that slave thing is just what I've heard.
  18. Is it true that Bruce Lee could kick a 300lb bag and make it hit the celing? I mean I know he's very strong for his weight/size but I never guessed he could generate that much power.
  19. I am considering in taking up a grappling martial art. I've done research on both Judo and Aikido, but can't find a "distinct" difference. So, I'm asking your opinions. My main question is for me, which of the two arts would be best to blend in with a striking art?
  20. Just wondering, what was the name of the religion Ninjas followed in Fuedal Japan? Or did they not have a religion? I know they make hand positions and stuff to "unlock your inner ki" or boost of your confidence, which I think is pretty interesting. So if anyone knows a site they can post here that would help please do so!
  21. Yah but it's a shame with the "no punchign face" rule. Thats why I left. I looked around me and saw people who practice tae kwon do for 15 years, and I noticed they kept their hands COMPLETELY down by their waist when they sparred. Becuase punches were not involved in their sparring at all. Which is a VERY bad thing in a full contact. Funny, cause you see white belts with hands up but black belt 2nd degree with hands down.
  22. When did I mention that I was afraid of getting hit in the face? You must be mistaken when I meant "I don't want a tkd tournament because they DON'T allow punching the face"....which is a shame.
  23. Haha ok I know this is probably like the 7673724 time this has been questioned in this forum, but I need to know where I can find an OPEN STYLE tournament, where someone like me would be obligated or recommended to participate, I am: 14 male Anaheim, California 115lb Currently not attending any dojo. The reason I'm asking this is because all the tournaments I have searched for end up being "you must be over 18 to participate" or something. And I'm pretty sure ppl here under the age of 18 are competing in tournaments. And if anybody does, help me out. I really need to start gaining experience in actual sparring. I'm looking for the least rules (ie. NOT TKD[no punching face ]), open style, and as long as I'm not ending up fighting people 8 years older then me it's ok. I prefer it's organized by "weight division" or "age" , not by "ranking" (which there shouldn't be cause it's open-style right?). I live in Anaheim so Los Angeles can be an acception. And I don't expect anyone to hardcore search for me, I know I'm asking a lot. So if someone could just let me know on how YOU find tournaments for yourself.
  24. SOoO...what you're saying iss I need to find an "Open Tournament"?? Where can I find information about Open Tournaments being held??
