  1. If you are trying to gain weight, then you need to be eating about one to two grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. Stick with chicken, steak, salmon, and tuna, those are going to be your best bets. Eat at least six times per day, spread out a few hours apart. And eat a LOT of calories, just make sure it isn't high in carbs or saturated fat.
  2. Moderate weight lifting isn't too bad at all on the joints. Powerlifting is where you get into trouble, but if you're just going for fitness, you wouldn't worry about getting the biggest one rep max. Stick with a moderate weight, three sets of ten to twelve reps. And don't worry about cutting either...that's bodybuilding, which is a completely different beast.
