  1. Kata are useful as they help improve the karateka skills Now, if you want to be good in a the street kata is the wrong thing to do. To be good in the street one must practice hard the basics often.
  2. When something is done slow in goju it usually means that it is something extremely important. In addition, when you are practicing the movement soft this is suppose to increase your internal strength. Furthermore, goju means hard and soft for many reasons. When the opponent strikes you evade (soft) but you strike (hard).
  3. Size matters. After a couple of sparring there is no doubt about it that it is easier to take on smaller people than bigger people. Size can be overcome by perfect timing and accuracy which sounds easy but it is infact much harder than it seems.
  4. The individual can make a lot of difference as to who will win the fight. All martial arts are good as long as you know how to make the most out of it.

    Hi

    Thanks guys.
  6. Clubs that claim a certain style should teach their style and not mix different arts.
  7. Street fighting is very different than sparring and I feel that there should be a greater emphasis on techniques which works on the street.
  8. What the best technique to use in sparring?

  10. I just registered in this forum today. I hope I will read lots of interesting post about martial arts. My martial arts history. I first started karate in Kyokushin style, but then I moved to another city and I was unable to continue. Now, I have been practicing Goju ryu karate for one year. In addition, I have started training Shotokan karate do and Wing Chun Kung fu. Peace.

    okinawan go ju ru

Goju ryu is a hard and soft style which is circular in defense. What is nice about goju ryu is that we evade the opponent attacks and that we don't meet force with force. The stance in goju ryu are also deeper than the one found in shotokan. For instance, the stance "shiko dachi" comes to mind. In short, goju ryu is interesting style and worth the try because it has a different perspective than shotokan. (I'm a blue belt currently)
  12. Heian Nidan and Hangetsu are my favorite shotokan kata at the moment.
