The world is my dojo. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
-
no no no, just before that. Okay you start with a middle block and a punch right? then step forward punch, step forward punch. Then theres two things you do before turning. they make your hands go up not down.

My instructor (my old one anyway) has earned the title master. He onyl makes us call him either sir or sensai though. I always wanted to call him master, some people have a problem with that, I don't. But I never did, he was a pretty strict guy and I wasn't sure how he'd react to it. lol. In fact the only person he would refeer to as Master is the Late Shimabuku, even other sensei's in the IWKA who wanted to be called Master he refused to. Thought it was pretty funny seeing him under mind them like that, like calling a 30 year old 'kid'.

will i'd like to argue with you because it's fun to, b ut since I haven't taken either art it would just be *. I want to study Iaido anyway, just a little, an dlook at kenjitsu, then decide. Won't be till i'm a solid strike fighter anyway.

this goes two ways. There are schools forceing christianity on people to. I am a christian but i hate that! It's not fair, espicially in an area we're there isn't very many dojo's period.

Reiki? tell me more! please!
-
yea maybe, but if they do them enough they won't be couch potatoes anymore!

There are two bloking movements done after punching three times. There preformed with both hands. Iv'e never heard it reffered to as a 'wedge block'. But one does cross the wrist, making an 'x' shape.

humm...i thought the idea was if youve mastered Iaido you shouldnt have to worry about butt kicking, there shouldn't be much fighting after the sword is drawn anyway, draw and kill in one motion right? The tedious stuff doesn't bother me, I like all that.
-
alright good job! I have a grading myself in a few weeks, we are actually just waiting for some required stuff to come in and then i test. Yea work on the next belt, but more importantly, work on Karate-do. Period. I bow to you.
-
lol, hey its better than doing nothing, but be a little more humble. Some people dont have a dojo nearby thats any better.

ha! Martial Girl, who is not only an extremely talented martial artist but is also insanely beautiful has just made a statement that advocates the use of the 'fobidden video tape' in leanring kata. Just thought i'd point that out. anyways yea I know you can't, but heck what else good is a forum on martial arts if every subject can't be adressed, I know technically you can't tell me completely how to apply this kata, but imagine I have my gloves on right now, im challangeing you, try anyway.

awww...thats so mean to say it like a joke.

i studied heain shodan way back in the day! Isn't it fairly similar to Tekki Aku?
-
Just one more thing I want to mention; If I said "Hey guess what guys! We had a saiance last night and rose the Grand Master Tatsu Shimabuku back from the dead, and in return he is gonna teach me Isshinryu Karate!" Someone would still say I was getting good training.
-
I'm gonna try it. For several reasons. 1) it's gonna tick people here off if i try it and say it's cool, which I think is really funny!you guys are so cute when you get angry! 2) I'll at least consider supporting anyhting that will bring Martial Arts to a place with few/no dojos. 3) it's something new. 4) I have nothing better to do, I cant go back to a dojo for an unknown amount of time so even though it's probably very different from Isshinryu it's still worth doing just to keep the ki up.

Okay, will consider the following please... 1) You know I actually used to advocate self training like crazy but it does have it's limits. I don't think you can learn by mimeking a video all the time no, but I dont think you have to go to a dojo your whole MA career either. I went to a dojo for about 8 months and now I have to stop for a while till I get through A-school, i am still training at home and, yes! oh god! I'm going to learn some new technique and maybe even a kata or two from books/video! Excommunicate me martial arts community! no sorry thats not true, there is a happy median. 2) In my situation, it really doesnt hurt me that much since I have people form other martial arts sparring with mne, helping with hold breaks, and helping me compare my movements with the masters in the videos/books. and it's not a perment thing, let me stress that, self training is okay for spurts, you can learn some new stuff on your own, maybe it will be easier for you to translate some principals by looking at some deffrinte approaches than your sensai, everyone thinks different. But even in thoughs spurts find someone to train along side. 3) dojo's are expensive! 4) Places like this should really help out the people who have to self train for a time, you guys always complain about how there going to get something wrong, will hell! Help them out for peats sake if you all know so much! 5) I kinda think of it like a foriegn language, some people can learn foreign languages fluently from tapes, some need an instructor. However even if you can learn from a tape you at least need someone, a nattive speaker maybe, to talk to. That doesnt mean you have to go to a class everyday for it though. 6) I learned to side kick with power on my own, my sensai couldnt drill it into my head but a phraseing in a book got it stuck there. -
Sauzin, ill try that. To me, it seems mainly reptitive, as though it wasn't meant so much to be realistic as just drill into you the mentaility behind some of the less practiced techniques. When is the last time you used an x-block? Also thats the reason I think you have to grab the arm and pull three times. I mean, in a fight, why the heck would they all be standing in a line like that? It also works with simple techniques that dont use lots of excess movement, which is a core value of Isshinryu anyway. One thing I wanted to clear up in paticular, that little push up thing I do with my arms right before I half step forward and x-block, whats that for?
-
Thats awesome! Now I really want to take it! But i'm to busy now, maybe after my shichi kyu test and after A-school

"welcome everyone to the first official lesson of thug-do! Now, did you all bring your chains" "yes sensai" "Good, now lets work on anti-knife deffence. Karateka's think there slick, ill show you how to get past all there twisty *." -
Iv'e been practing it for eight months. I'm just not applying it PERIOD. and kumite should not just be a game but a way to practice, with control, technique, speed, taisabuki, a number of toher things. I'm not asking anyoen to do the kata for me i'm asking for discussion, as this is a messahe board. sorry, that must have sounded liek i'm trying to get smart. If I do not know all the bunkie there is no way I can apply it.
-
well it's not so much that i don't know the bunkie. I dont have it word for word memorised but your rigth, it's fairly straight forward. However, i'm nto learning anything, I practice this kata day and night since I'm testing soon but I don't feel that in kumite I will aplie any lesson this kata has to teach because I can't see the lesson. I think if I have soem help here with lookign at the bunkie with different eyes maybe i'll learn something.
