  1. well karate won't 'pull chicks' i dont reckon, other than the fit body that you will attain - but most girls won't see that until AFTER you've taken your shirt off except for your arms, and i won't go into martial arts benefits past that point my female friends who do dance or gymnastics are always interested to hear about it, no one else (fellow martial arts freaks excepted )really wants to hear about it except when i win kumite tournaments or grade.
  2. hahhaa well i was practicing my katas on the lawn out the front of my house and my mum came out and said PHONE! and I responded with a really loud HAI!! it seems whenever I do martial arts actions I think in martial arts terms
  3. Cricket - imagine instead of shurikens you just knock people out by throwing heavy balls at their temple, cricket bats and wickets are the main weapons taught here Swimming - imagine the katas/forms! skateboarding, learning how to use the skateboard as a weapon and a shield Bar Fu - the art of using everything in a bar to your defence - chair style, broken bottle style, full bottle style, molatov cocktail style, pool cue, and pool ball in a sock style.
  4. my main emphasis like I've said is being able to increase the movement speed and flexibility of my body (I already get these benefits from my current school but I feel like getting the same benefit from another school might help a bit...also help me mix up my fighting style a bit more) ok so body speed... but I'm also interested in doing forms - I like doing them, and I'm interested in weapons - and am fascinated by the sai and the bo surprisingly I live in a big city, but even with that it's pretty hard for me to find schools at the moment i'm looking at kobudo but the only problem is the only kobudo schools in my yellow pages are cross with other schools one is 'hontai yoshin ryu ju jutsu & kobudo' (at a place that's pretty far from me) the other one is a Okinawan GoJu Ryu Karate-Do/Kobudo school which i doubt you can do seperately, this one is heaps close to me but the problem is the style of karate i've been studying for the past year is pretty similar to Goju... this style of Kung Fu i'm interested in http://www.tigerandcrane.com.au/ (which seems to be based on Hung Gar? ) as well as iwama ryu style aikido (how early in aikido do you learn the bo or the jo?) i was looking at https://www.kendo.com.au - who has iaido...then i realized the iaito was 1,100 dollars WTF?!?! and looking at the equipment...jebus that stuff is expensive... so i can rule that one out... i'm also interested in Wu Shu but I can't find any schools
  5. that's a pretty low fatality rate considering
  6. so true, diffuse the situation if you can - if shit hits the fan take out the biggest strongest looking person as quickly as possible people who attack in groups are usually cowards, I personally would be more worried about a single person looking for a fight.
  7. so i'm not mad! i thought i saw karate in matrix
  8. BKJ just hurry up and do karate already, you're talking it up way too much by the time you do it you'll end up hating it
  9. for me karate class can be a wakeup call don't expect the same kind of martial arts training that you would have normally, but take it as a special energizing tool for the rest of your day.
  10. my left hip also clicks i hope it's nothing serious it's only when i bring my leg down on an angle
  11. dude i was like the most uncoordinated kid in my karate class I stuck at it, i still have some small coordination problems but most have been eliminated. The first 5 weeks of karate killed my ass. Then after 5 weeks I trained 6 times a week, my body just had to keep up with the trauma i was putting it through and eventually developed the muscular endurance i needed. I know people always say 'working out every 2 days is better' but with karate it worked for me doing it almost every day, and also doing it at home. Martial arts do amazing things for your body hence the term 'training'
  12. ok so is kabudo an art? or just part of arts?
  13. actually that russian description was more like thailand, or so my brother said anyway when we were there. so anyway.. 'man who smoke pot choke on handle'
  14. i've seen and done a fair few blunders recently upon executing a round kick in class my opponent who was open managed to get his elbow in place and blocked with his elbow. Needless to say 2-3 weeks later i'm still feeling the muscle (and possible bone injury i just got it x-rayed) so because I've been going easy on my foot I was doing combo drills and i roll that foot's ankle and make out this loud yelp - everyone laughs at me. ok not really that funny. This was a while ago...We have 2 classes one after the other at my dojo on some days, and me and this girl were fooling around between the classes - at early levels we're told to never open our hands because we can't close them fast enough. Well anyway me and this girl are fooling around sorta sparring bare knuckle she does this scooping kick on me and I put my hand down the wrong way to block it, a completely straight palm facing downwards - needless to say I copped the full kick on my ring finger. It was soooo fat.
  15. my hips pop and it kinda hurts a little it's usually when i've lifted my leg (not necessarily from a kick) and then I bring my leg down in a diagonal position rather than a straight one
  16. train hard, do silly shit later when you have better judgement and skill to do it
  17. doing the splits is like the black belt of stretching for me(well that and being able to go back into a bridge like my ex girlfriend used to be able to do) I work hard at it, it's a goal i've had since the beginning, i must do it and i will do it.
  18. ps don't try forward flips on hard ground... i swear i blacked out when i hit the ground
  19. earlier on it's hard 'not to think about it' so a good idea i think is to at home practice a few sets of combos make them up so you feel comfortable with them work on getting in attacking, then getting out after a while your sets of combos will become ingrained in your muscle memory and you'll just do them without thinking about it
  20. you could probably do a better job than mcdojos but i would suggest finding a good school
  21. your purple is the same as our blue i think i've got a fair way to go before i get to that rank i'm 6th kyu atm I got it at the beginning of march hopefully I can get my next rank by june-august
  22. you'd be surprised what world/ex world leaders have/had blackbelts Nelson mandala was like 3rd dan at karate i think but yeah as I was saying to my friend, instead of politicians having soldiers fight wars for them I think there should be a NHB ring specifically for politicians who choose to create conflict. They enter the ring and fight for the death. Maybe with that politicians would be less eager to kill when it's their life on the line
  23. I've been training with someone for a while who i sorta have a thing for we talk alot after class i've kinda held back because of the reason why everyone keeps saying don't have relationships in the dojo. There is such a good atmosphere at my dojo the way things are i don't wanna change it.
  24. I'm really interested in doing a weapon art of some kind. Can people post their knowledge? the weapons i'm most interested in are the staff, and the sai what arts use these - and what arts use these earlier one? also if the art does other stuff that would be cool as well and to the question of the topic, can someone explain okinawan kabudo - and what weapons it uses?
  25. i have the force I also have a death star
