  1. A good place to mount one or two heavy bags, mirrors, mats, a crash mat, pullup bar... that would be a great start.
  2. as for "bo staff" well... he's Canadian... they all talk funny
  3. You know, I've never bought the Jitte/Jutte/Sip Soo/ as a staff form argument. I'm one of those people who likes to take empty hand forms and try to perform them with weapons, but for me, I can't see a logical manner of staff defense or offense involved in the form, especially when you compare it to the style of bo play seen in traditional forms.
  4. Good for you... Continue to train hard, and perhaps your efforts will inspire other around you to excel as well.
  5. it's like tag... but they use a shinai. (bamboo sword)
  6. is the mouthpiece well formed to your teeth?
  7. I think you should play "shinai tag."
  8. It gets very easy to do, and I'll admit I do it all the time. I'll see people who are ranked above me, and I wonder just how in the heck they ever got there when I watch them forget a form, show poor technique, have awful students, are awful teachers, etc. If you poke around enough (and for most of us, it's not that hard) you can find something to knock a person for. I've got plenty of things that I can improve without having to worry about people higher than me. Not only do I need to improve these things for myself, but for the students that I'm responsible for in terms of their development. Whether I throw a lousy side kick, or they see me speaking poorly of someone else.. they will emulate me. It may sound touchy-feely and PC to say only worry about yourself, but I honestly believe it's the only way to go. Too many people spend their time getting worked up about things they can't possibly control and neglect the things they *could* be doing. easier said than done, true... but that doesn't mean we can't all work towards it.

  10. so what sort of set combos do you do? i'm always interested in hearing about some different combos.
  11. LOL.. that's evil, but "bow tie belts" are amusing. Except when they can crush you into oblivion for mentioning it Though if I hadn't started watching what I ate and running more, I'd be well on my way to a bow tie myself.
  12. like a size 6 belt on a size 3 girl if she did the technique right, the hip rotation might cause her to lose an eye!
  13. Worry about yourself. Don't concern yourself with others until you're responsible for their training. You're one of those rare people who just absorbs everything and is living the art to your fullest extent. Other people have different priorities, and that is their thing.
  14. that would be much safer, yes
  15. Zhang Zhi Yi is much cuter, and has better form.
  16. Perhaps Rob meant "most like Shotokan" in the sense that the kata are similar in name and (give or take) sequence. Performance is a different story.
  17. Just out of curiousity, when you guys shadow box, do you practice specific combinations. As in, a set routine, or is it mostly freestyle?
  18. Doug, I hear ya My numbers look OK (I'm down from 200 lbs a year ago. It's amazing what running will do for you) but I have a pretty small frame and could still stand to lose another 10-15 pounds. Sevenstar is apparently build like a Netflix DVD (geocities is blocking your site... too much bandwidth use, i imagine) everyone wants to check him out
  19. 5'10" 175
  20. my legs are always bruised
  21. Frank, This is a different kick... Unless you do a really funky crescent kick in your school. The direction the leg travels, as well as the striking surface is completely different.
  22. does that mean we can let the topic die? PLEASE??
  23. where the heck do all of you people live that pool cues are just laying in the street everywhere just waiting to be used as improvised weapons?
