OSU!!! I have to say you are correct, as I am a big beefy fellow and I do in fact train shotokan. Honestly I see it as a plus, shotokan is an exsplosive style and training big dudes to be exsplosive is just plan awesome! OSU!

Awesome brother. The nunchaku are just too fun OSU!!

I know at east the way I do Kizami it is intended to be a "knock out" tech. the uraken is fantastic but it is a snapping tech. both are strong but kizami is a very strong punch that should if landed knock the opponent back. As far as i know for my Org at least uraken is a scoring hit but harder to see as it is a smaller movement. OSU!!!

I don't think we ever will be as Proficient as our own ego's would like but I guess it helps ya keep the "beginner mind" lol OSU!! -
How long before you felt proficient at your chosen MA?
Oshishinobu replied to DWx's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have to say I felt like I was half way good after my Shodan. It was the day I felt like I was moving as I should. Saying that there are still days when I feel like I am a white belt on my first night. OSU!! -
Thanks yeah I love doing it with a staff. The flow of the kata really works well with the movments of the bo. OSU!!

OSU!!! Thanks yeah it feels good with the Bo. I have been working on some bunkai I just need to record them. OSU!!!

OSU!! I train in italian long sword and english military saber. I have some training in the rokushaku bo in the matayoshi system would love to do more, I use my sai for my empty hand kata and the nunchaku. I learned the first two kata in eishin ryu iaido. OSU!!

OSU!!! SO I am absolutely positive this topic has been broached but It thought I would wade through this stream anyway. A while back as a way to play with my rokushaku bo I decided to try it with bassai dai and I had a blast. I had always thought that most of our empty hand kata could be doe with weapons as in how in Kali a stick strike is the same with a knife and a fist. so I am curious if you guys have played in this sand box and if you happen to have a video please share!!!! I wil start OSU!!!

TKD Forms; a running comparison
Oshishinobu replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
OSU!!! Very interesting sir and thank you or posting these always love to see different styles. Personally in terms of kicho E bu I have to say i prefer the secon version but I am a Shotokan Karateka. The first form seems almost too involved. He throws his body into position almost to the point of off balanced. He seems to be in a cramped location which is unfortunate but i can understand when dealing with what ya got. OSU!!! -
OSU!!! I know I have heard of some folk using velcro to keep it in place. OSU!!

OSU!!! ISKF requires a white gi with the ISKF patch on the chest. no brand specific but our club prefers KI brand for affordability and general great quality. I own a KI mugen 10 oz and love it. The only OSU!!

Promotions: Ceremony, or No?
Oshishinobu replied to bushido_man96's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
OSU!! We have a formal test usually after the main training, the test is simple and is set of the kihon, kataand kumite for each rank. Ceremony is I guess the best term or it. When we actually get our belts it is basically hey you pasted here is a belt from our closet or you ca buy one. My Shodan however was a little bit of a tado. e went to dinner and my sensei presented me with my brand new ki belt. My cert came later a really cool cert in Japanese and signed by our head master Okazaki. I think the ceremony is a fine thing but I have heard of some crazy ones, with silk belt trays and beating the student with their old belt lol to each their own I guess! OSU!!! -
OSU!!!! I am a shotokan karateka with the ISKF, we were once part of the JKA, but who wasn't lol. Shotokan as a style is fantastic in my opinion the kata is explosive and dynamic. It will push you athletically and mentally. Coming from Ueichi may be a little different at first , a good friend and sempai came from jundokan Goju and he had a little trouble at first with some of the stances but you can adapt. I think what you bring would be an absolutely wonderful addition to Shotokan. In regards to JKA I was never part of the main org but from what I understand polotics in the operative word. If you just want to train shotokan I say go for it but as you rise in rank you will see more of the political stuff. As a shotokan karateka I welcome you t the family and I would love to train with you one day. OSU!!!

OSU! I have always thought a fun bunkai for the sweeping block after the fifth movement as grabbing some dirt and throwing it in the enemies eyes. OSU!
-
OSU! The bokken will really make you think of the applications. OSU!
-
OSU!i personally love the idea of a wrist lock application. I have also used it as a advancing movement with a bo thrust. Bassai dai is a fantastic kata and I think is a great empty Han or weapon kata. OSU!

OSU! I am currently working in house keeping at a local hospital but I am in school for Phlebotomy. OSU!
-
OSU! absolutely bunkai motivatior should just be a push down the hill of bunkai. OSU!
-
OSU! Those look awesome great job. Yeah those look great! OSU!
-
OSU! Ripping off some balls! Yeah that is the idea. With bassai dai I always like to think " I must protect!" Bassai was the kata of the palace guards who protected the royal family and other high officials. As I see this the opening is cutting off a assailant coming to attack your charge. OSU!
