Invented your on stlye...?

I know a couple people who have gone that route, and in most cases its about proving yourself to the MA community. They are all great instructors, but that isn't enough to start your own system... ALL McDojos were started this way... -
YOUNGEST AGE
SandanPJ replied to van damme's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I have a student who is going on four and pays attention better than just about anyone. Most of the time I only take children over the age of five. Four in most cases is still too young. But with young children it is more about teaching them to keep their hands and feet down and using their mouths instead. -
Passing of a Prominent Martial Artist

Same happend when Nick Cerio passed away, the system broke into a couple pieces from there.... -
That just shows how weak the school truely is. 3 1/2 is hardly a whitebelt let alone a blackbelt...

What do you think is the best "self defense" weapo
SandanPJ replied to Withers M.A.A.'s topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Bo since you can turn most anything into one. Other than that a handgun is the obvious answer, unless you can't shoot.. -
In NCK Kenpo, weapons are only taught for 4th kyu and higher. Most of our black belt forms are with the bo and kama.

There is more phoney crap out their today. In the past it would have never happened, other schools would have stood up to it. The Martial Arts in general has a mystic to it, and I think it always will. Combat is as old as time, so I don't see it being a trend. But Blackbelt is a joke in today's society. Anyone can get one, and few can back theirs up.

over night classes? Time spent in the art is just as important as knowing your stuff. This basically allows one to get their basics and current curriculum down before getting something new. Just because someone can remember a form and spit it out, doesn't mean they understand it. I am against kyu/gup belts in general for adults, but for kids I see the need for them. But I would look into another school that doesn't rush promotions...as well as having a certified black belt program.

Karate + Muay Thai
SandanPJ replied to WhiteBelt's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Karate, at least Kenpo Karate, only uses blocks and the chamber method up till about 4th kyu, then you dump it all and learn something totally usefull...Funny how everyone is taught wrong on purpose to prepare them for the real stuff. -
If you could do another martial art what would it be?

Anyone who studied under Parker directly is legit, but then it stems out into many generations in a short period of time. With this being said there are a ton of McDojos bearing the american kenpo defense system. Beware of place that are called American Self Defense/Super Heros of Martial Arts, Masters of blah blah blah...the list goes on. Always check them out and watch some classes first. The original American Kenpo system is great and offers a lot of great self defense techs. Some of the newer watered down schools don't have the complete system and usually replace those techs with god knows what...

Was he really that good???
SandanPJ replied to yireses's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Bruce Lee would come to Parker quite often to see if some techs were legit. Many who saw them go at it, said Lee got his ass kicked the majority of the time.
